Great reaction - and Happy New Year. Su-metal first performed 'No Rain, No Rainbow' in June 2013 at the Legend 1999 concert, so it was ready long before the first album was released in 2014.
However, Su-metal was not happy that she was doing the song justice emotionally and that she was concentrating more on getting the notes and the lyrics right than she was thinking about or understanding what it meant, so she did not want to record it for that album.
Only when she saw somebody in the audience crying as she sang this song did she realise she could effect people emotionally with her vocals - only then did she feel she was ready to record the song - it was included on the second album which was released in 2016.
'No Rain, No Rainbow' has still only been performed live 7 times - you picked the definitive performance from Su-metal's 20th birthday celebration, Legend S Baptism XX, in her home town Hiroshima in December 2017 (although the two performances at the Budokan in Tokyo in 2021 were also very special and a bit different).
Yes this was the Kami Band supporting them again, they have been with BABYMETAL for all live performances since early 2014 (and some encores and festivals before that) - in 2019 for the US tour and 2020 for the Europe tour the Kami band of the West (American musicians) supported them.
Legend S was the last time Kami Band guitarist Mikio Fujioka (RIP) played with them before his tragic accident at the end of 2017 - he fell from an observation deck where he was star gazing and died from his injuries in January 2018.
It is surely not a coincidence that as Su-metal sings the line "We shall never meet again, but I want not to forget you for ever" the camera focuses briefly on Mikio.
Another slow song - just Su, piano and strings - is 'Akatsuki' Unfinished version - she only did that version one time at the Legend 1997 concert for her 16th birthday. I know there is a widescreen version with English subtitles on Kitsune Sama's channel (dare not post a link or my comment will disappear).

The musicians backing up Babymetal are called the Kami Band. It's generally the same musicians but they do rotate somewhat when individuals have other commitments. At this show, the guitarists were Mikio Fujioka (brown guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (pink guitar), BOH (bass), and Hideki Aoyoma (drums). At this concert and the ones before they wore corpse paint on their faces, and usually white robes, but not long after this performance they started wearing black robes, and then also masks.

Such a great "power ballad", and it was for Su's 20th Birthday concert. There is more history around this concert, but I am sure it has been explained by some of the "expert" fans much better than I could.

    ⚡ / ☂ 🌈
As has been pointed out, this was Kami Band guitarist Mikio Fujioka's last appearance with BABYMETAL.
They have a close-up on him during this part:
"Nidoto ae-nai kedo, wasure-naide itai yo."
(We shall never meet again, but I want not to forget you forever.)
Mikio passed away on January 5th, 2018, before the video was released.
At this December 2017 show, Su was about to turn 20, the traditional age of adulthood in Japan.
Yui was supposed to perform at this concert, but was unable to appear because of unspecified health reasons.
The introduction just before this song refers to to the bombing of Hiroshima, Su's home prefecture, and the location of the two 'LEGEND S - BAPTISM XX' concerts.
This intro was added for these shows.
That doesn't mean the song was originally written to be about those events, just that they were drawing a connection for these two special concerts in Su's home prefecture of Hiroshima.
The last line of this song is:
"An endless rain fills my heart, forever."
That seems like a clear reference to the X-Japan's song 'Endless Rain'.
The actual music reminds me a bit more of the X-Japan song 'Silent Jealousy'.
Of course Su delivers this song with striking clarity and emotional resonance.

I'm still convinced that the minute long pause at Budokan X was there to remember him, as NRNR has not been played that many times and this was the last one before those shows. 🤘🦊⚡

    > "Yama-nai ame ga kokoro mitasu yo, itsu made mo."

    Soo sad, but poetic...
Man, who doesn't love a classic rock ballad?

Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛and happy new year. We are moved by this song because we are human beings. I am Japanese but my nationality and literacy do not have distinct advantages to feel the emotion stirred by Su-Metal and Kamis. Su's voice and Kami's guitar sound resonate with the bones in my whole body.
This was filmed in 2017 and BM revived this song in the two last shows of 10 BABYMETAL Budokan in 2021 with Su's more matured voice. As an eyewitness of those shows at the venue, I can tell you that it was literally heartbreaking and made me forget to breathe. This 2017 version, however, may be still the best for me although BM always say "the latest is the best". It may be so because of the last appearance of Mikio (RIP) with Su. 😢

I told you before but again Happy New Year Brandy-Metal, so good you starting this 2023 with this beautiful SuMetal solo.
This song is an X-Japan tribute to Endless Rain, is like a response or a silver lining.
Good thing you upload this one with those filters to avoid copyright blocked.
There's a _kamishibai_ (narrated intro) before this song that relates Hiroshima sad past events in history with this song.
She being from Hiroshima and granddaughter of Hiroshima bomb survivor, this was really special for her.
A gorgeous hard rock ballad from SuMetal solos and BM in general, performed at Legend S Baptism XX 2017 20th SuMetal birthday it was a special concert due to many factors and many fans always get sad about it, me too of course, is a bittersweat live concert and one in a lifetime too. It was the last time Mikio Fujioka-sama played with BabyMetal before he past away and first live concert without YuiMetal, so many feelings. (R.I.P. kokami)🙌
She sang this at 10 Babymetal Budokan 2021 with our queen "playing" the piano, it really surprised the audience with the unusual silence break.
She supposed to sing this song during first album but she felt not ready to sing it with all the emotions needed, that's why is included during 2nd album later on.
There's a live version at Legend 1999 (2013) with Yui and MoaMetal celebrating their birthdays, isn't the best version since the guitar sound and mix are a little bit off but is good in terms of visual and a special moment being a live premiere.
SuMetal said that this guitars solos is one of her favorite parts, quote: _“I feel that the guitars in this song sound as if they’re really singing the melody, and I just really enjoy it."_
Japan got many other tragedies and natural disasters in history, like the 2011 earthquake, Suzuka Nakamoto (aka SuMetal) remembered those sad days and connected with Hiroshima past events, saying:
_I believe that persistently doing little things bit by bit as they come up will grow into a great power someday. The city i live in Hiroshima has itself been totally destroyed and then restored. This happened long before i was born but i have seen through pictures that Hiroshima went from a place with someday we will be able to look back and be almost unable to believe the destructive scene that we see now._
She's our queen for a reason, she touches our heart on every way.

Nice reaction. I was just cutting some onions and this song comes on. Su-metals ability to portray emotion with her voice is stunning. As the story goes with this song the record company wanted it on the first album. Su held it off the album because she felt she wasn't singing it with the proper emotion. They did perform the song though. and it wasn't until she saw folks crying in the audience that she knew she got it right. Part of that story tells us why the song is so good. The other parts of the story tell us Su is a perfectionist and will record no song until she's ready to record it. For many. One of the questions about Babymetal has been, are they just given things to sing and have no say in what they're doing? This story goes towards answering that question. Babymetal actually seem to have a lot of say in what they were doing in those early years. True they didn't write the songs but let's remember they were 12 and 10 when they started working on the Babymetal material. Heck it wasn't even called Babymetal yet. They were the Heavy music club. A subunit Sakura Gakuin. The jpop group they started off together in. Su has also talked about when they go to record songs. She often didn't have the words yet and sing a melody line to the music. The writers would then work the words to fit the melody she sang. That may be different than how others compose songs. But to each their own. The results are fantastic songs. So, I say whatever they're doing keep doing it. This performance was from the Legend S concert for Su-metals 20th birthday. Which Su just turned 25 on Dec 20th 2022. They've come a long way. Part of the fun with learning new bands is digging into their history. And now Babymetal has been around for over 10 years. They have a lot of history. First two albums can be thought of as the classic Babymetal era. When all three of the original ladies are together. Then you have 3rd album which is kind of a coming of age album. Babymetal perfecting all the things they do after going through a rough time. That sadly many legendary bands share. A bandmate left. Yuimetal. and one of the guitarists performing in this video Mikio Fujioka passed away shortly after this performance. But IMO the words from their own song Karate hit them. When you're down, bleeding and hurt. Get up and go forward. Now with the 4th album coming out in March 2023. We head into the new era of Mature Kawaii Metal. But before we get there. You should check out another epic level entrance by Babymetal. They started this concert with "In The Name Of". Another must see live.

This is why Su-Metal is a Metal Goddess. "No Rain 🌂 No Rainbow 🌈 " is about remembrance. All of the version are great but Babymetal live at the Legend S concert at Su-Metal hometown of Hiroshima shows her pure emotions and sincerity in Su-Metal singing ability to portray more versatility in her control of her vocals. The Legend S concert, is Mikio Fujioka's last concert with Babymetal before his tragic passing in 2018 and without Yuimetal who left Babymetal in 2018. Progressive Power Ballad "THE ONE" is a must for Babymetal fans. Whoever the fans need to support, it's up to them and it shouldn't be a competition of who is the greater band. I am a Kitsune but listen to other bands if the music is great but if it's not don't hate it. Music is Universal. After this do check out Legendary Japanese Band XJapan power ballad "Endless Rain" the last life before XJapan disbanded in 1998, where Babymetal's "No Rain No Rainbow" gets the inspiration from. Here is the link if you guys are keen on doing a reaction,

One of guitarists (with white-red guitar) died before DVD was released. It was his last perform :( Mikio Fujioka RIP
So this song took on a special meaning when the DVD/Blu-Ray came out. The lyrics of the song are very sad and it's about saying goodbye to a person.
Shortly before this concert, one of the girls left the band (not yet officially at that time, but she could not perform, and has not performed since). Yui Mizuno left the band.
The concert was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of vocalist Suzuka Nakamoto and was held in her hometown of Hiroshima. It is unfortunate that it was surrounded by such sad events. I think it was not easy for the whole Babymetal team.

I remember that period in time very well. The loss of Mikio, the disappearance of Yui, and Babymetal releasing the incredible tribute song, Starlight. The song Starlight is obviously about Mikio, but Su-metal has stated that she often thinks about Yui when performing that song...

this one of 4 solos Su does (when yui/moa need a breather). They are Akatsuki, Rondo Of Nightmare, Amore and of course No Rain, No Rainbow. This is my favorite solo of hers. Moa/Yui have four duets they do as "Black Babymetal" which are GJ (good job), Sis Anger, song 4 (which Yui and Moa have writing credits), and Onedari Daisakusen.

Many Babymetal fan would say this is a tribute/nod to X-Japan's Endless Rain. Some people say Endless Rain was inspired by Prince's Purple Rain. And that November Rain by Guns N Roses was inspired by X-Japan and/or Prince as well. It's a great list for Babymetal to be part of. You can see how Slash's November Rain guitar solo has a similar idea to the guitar solo in No Rain, No Rainbow.

There are plenty of metal singers that has power and range (Floor or Tarja), but Su's the only one that makes you feel the song... hearing her voice slightly cracking, the moist look in her eyes, and the blue lights makes you feel the sadness in the song, but when the light turns red, you can see the change in the look of her eyes and the Metal Queen is back. Totally awesome performance. That's one of the many reasons I like her, she doesn't just sing a song, she performs it... From facial expressions, to her own interpretive dance moves, its a whole package.... If a western pop singer sings a sad ballad, they might just lower their eyes a bit, a slight frown... When Su does it (like in Akatsuki Unfinished or No Rain No Rainbow), you can hear the cracking of her voice, the slight choking back a sob, the sad tearful expression... Better than some hollywood actresses.🤘🦊🤘

Nice reaction. This is arguably the best performance of this song and shows Su at her most emotionally powerful self. You can tell after the bridge in the middle of the song that she was holding back from crying with the wavering in her voice and the tears starting to well up in her eyes. If I remember correctly, a couple of years before this show she didn't perform this song at concerts for a while as she felt she couldn't get the emotion of the song right and waited until she thought her voice and singing had matured a little. I'm sure maybe Rick or Jake can correct me on this but I'm sure that's what I heard/read somewhere.

Shine LIVE is my favorite BabyMetal song and it is a tribute to guitarist Mikio Fujioka who you see playing lead guitar in this performance. It was tragically his last performance before dying in a fall from an observation platform while stargazing. He was I believe only 36 and left behind a wife and children. So if you have an opportunity watch Shine LIVE.
