    i hate this. i do fw and pvp. i dont mine. i dont scan. i dont kill non capsulears. i dont salvage.... i liked getting a few skillpoints now and then just for logging in. but i dont like spending a significant amount of time on tasks that i dont wana do. on random ass chores just so i can get probably not even twice as much of the resource i actually give a shit about per month... edit: its more then twice but honestly i still hate doing random chores.

    I agree it would be better if the daily tasks/missions were more tailored to what that character was geared towards doing. Nothing more annoying than getting a mining task on my combat toon with no mining skills and a combat task on my mining toon with no combat skills.
    Would be nice if we could select a category or something of the type of task we receive on that character. Then you could choose a FW task if that's what you wanted to do.
    The point of the task is to get players unlocked and engaged in some sort of content beyond just logging in to claim rewards and leaving. So being able to select what daily goal you want sounds like a good compromise.

    • @bucklinfondue

      In one of their recent videos they actually said they do this because they want players to undock and be active. So I think they should offer the goals of a player's chosen activity.

    Eve is a very mature sandbox style game. Thus, there are many elements in it that won't appeal to all players. There are some for sure who will enjoy the advancement such a grind brings. Some will not. Because it's a sandbox, the best policy (IMO, based on MMOG participation since 1999) is to continue to do your thing that you like, and if you get some random rewards from the dailys, that's cool. If you like the grind, dig in. The good thing about a sandbox is you have the choice.

    You are missing the point. They made 'easy' missions in areas that one isn't necessarily engaging in to entice people to try out areas that are different than what they might be single mindedly following. "That" is why it 'is' a defense. If it is an extremely easy introduction into other areas of the game, people might find after doing something a few times they actually enjoy it. Often, when one gets 'comfortable' they don't want to wander out of their comfort zone, but then they eventually get bored. Even though they are bored, they don't always want to try other areas since they have built up a wall between them and those other areas of the game. These small enticements don't make someone fall in love with other areas, but they do often help break down those walls, which make trying the other areas when bored an option that often wouldn't have been one if people followed their general instincts. Tldr: you might find you don't "don't" like something as much as you thought if you give it a chance, and if that happens, the game becomes a richer place for you.

    I have a serious question for Eve players. I have wanted to play this game, like for 15 years. At that time, I got into and invested my effort (gaming) into WoW and then FF14 later. I have always heard its near impossible to get your foot in the door in the game, because the old heads are so powerful and just bully the new players (via combat not actual bullying) into oblivion. The game looks awesome, and totally seems like my jam. I don't have any friends that play, but am decent at social things in MMO universes, finding guilds clans etc... and am NOT afraid to or pissy about grinding. What would you say to somebody considering taking the plunge, all the way in 2024?

    • @bucklinfondue
      @bucklinfondue  Месяц назад +1

      I just started two months ago and with these types of skill points catch ups a new player can become competitive in a specific aspect pretty quick. There is also a 1 million skill point giveaway through player links.

    • @DoddyIshamel
      @DoddyIshamel Месяц назад +3

      You have heard wrong tbh. Eve has a combination of exponentially increasing training times and a vast array of different things to do which together make sp a bit of a moot point.
      You might have 20 million sp and a veteran 140 million sp but if you fight him 1v1 in a frigate he might only be using 25 million of his sp and the 5 million he has over you might be like 5% ship agility and 5% afterburner cap use or such which will almost certainly make no difference compared to fits, micro, intel, friends, spatial awareness etc.
      Actual power in eve comes from a) social ability and/or b) understanding game mechanics.
      Having lots of isk (in game currency) and sp (skillpoints) just increases the variety of available game play. But a new player should focus on one thing at a time anyway.

      If you don't mind spending a few bucks IRL you can easily develop a character for decent PVP in game skills rather easily. The actual act of skill required to be good at pvp and game mechanics is a separate beast and takes time usually. It's a very deep game. Player skill level is better determination of success than skill points level in game. Looking back 20 years (9 year break) I wish I never took the break, but family and new child forced it. It's something I couldn't imagine having not become immersed in for about 50% of my life from beginning to current.
