Lovely to see how your first half of the year went! I also enjoyed Babel and it gave me feels! You're reminding me I need to pick up Our Wives Under the Sea! I read Yellowface this summer and I had a lot of thoughts - I enjoyed the experience of reading, but there are so many issues with it. Looking forward to getting your thoughts!
unrelated to books: love this makeup look. book related: I'm really thinking I'm going to hop on the Babel train before the end of the year, and yr video is only contributing to this assertion. I liked "sad juices" . and yay for multiple books for each answer! it's too hard to pick just one of something! more is more!
I'm reading PAUL by Daisy Lafarge. I had very high expectations and I really like the story, but her style irritates me. Plus, Paul is irritating, too and I find him dull; I can't identify with France's feelings. Maybe I'm being harsh, but I have so little time to read lately, that I really need a book that I love. I just ordered Sorrow and Bliss, and I'm hoping it'll be one of those books. I do like The Invisible Life of Addie Larue and I still have Whispers by Ashley Audrain somewhere in my apt to read, but lately, there hasn't been a book that just hit me right on the heart. I totally get that reading slump feeling.
Paul is the worst!! I didn’t understand her feelings either but I don’t think she has any, she just goes along with it. I’m sorry you’re not loving it though! Sorrow and Bliss is really good, I hope it breaks through the slump for you!
@@PagesAndStages Thank you. I really appreciate that. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who found Paul a boring character. Overall, I'm finding the whole book very heavy to read. I can't say, I dislike it because it's very smart at times. But a little bit of lighter writing would've made it more "approachable " to an average audience. If I may suggest a book for you, also literary fiction, but so much more interesting I really love ASYMMETRY by Lisa Halliday.

Thank you! I'm excited to see what you think of Babel, the audio is really good too. I can never pick just one of anything ever and that's ok!
I just read Yellowface and I was distinctly underwhelmed. Julia Armstrong also has a short story collection which I thought was excellent.
Oh yeah, salt slow! I always forget that’s by her. I’ll give it a try
And I also just read yellowface and was very underwhelmed!

I am a bad influence, and can't tell you to read anything. Except Young Mungo

You’re adorable
