Wiki as errors in what is what, the oldest part of Millbrook Housing estate is in the Waterhouse Lane area, work started back in 1920, My Dad was born in Freshfield Road, Millbrook. The stream that ran though this old part is what gave Millbrook its name, there use to be a drinking water pump and bottling Mill, that use to supply the Southampton Town with drinking water. After the War work restarted in building more homes and expanded into Redbridge and its Hamlets of Wimpson, Mansel, Lordhill and Maybush. The area that I was born into and I remember the last harvest on what was to become Mansel Park, the building of Redbridge Towers and then Millbrook Towers, when they had finish Millbrook Towers they used a helicoper to dismantle the crane, one part proved to be to heavy and had to drop in in the park close to the 3rd yellow flats in the football pitch, In those days what was to become Millbrook School was seperate schools Brownhill Girls and Green Lane Boys. lots of old memorys
It was all classed as the 'parish' of Millbrook, now distinct. I will say I live in Millbrook but technically its Redbridge. Also look how far down Millbrook Station is, thats Freemantle area. @@jayadams681
@@jayadams681to be fair I think millbrook used to be much bigger than what we see today - think about where millbrook train station actually is (freemantle)
Unfortunately was a truly horrendous place it was depressing in most part, on dull day when the rain stayed all day it felt to me like I was stuck in a horror film Family later moved to locksheath and I just felt a high sense of relief I felt that i escaped and i was only 11. I've only visited millbrook a couple of times and couldn't get out of there quick enough phew!!!
Nice to find this.
