Alright so first off a lot of the question you ask has been shown quite a bit. First off Haki was never potrayed to be anything other than some sort of life force. From the moment luffy embarks on the journey of learning haki, it was pointed out to be an expression of the human will, something all living things posseses but need to awaken it. Secondly the depth of haki, expression, range, size and use style is completely dependant on the user. As it is with Enel:Mantra, Fujitora: mind reading, Katakuri with Future sight. Observation haki has always been stated to be something that needs to be turned off and on, it wasn't passive unless the user uses it as so eg fujitora. Observation also does a lot of than sense presence, emotions, thoughts, intent. With conquerors, it is still the will of the user but the reality is once you posses it. You still need to train it and heck getting stronger definitely improves your will. Some things aren't rocket science. Lastly i do agree that some things should be explicit especially visual representations of haki.
one problem with haki is how it has to be stated one uses it because the black arm isn`t enough for anyone to know if it`s advanced armour or conqueror, also how some editors just put the black lightning just to make the clash cooler which confuses the shit out of the fandom already, i just learned to not care about haki because it`s a bad power system

With observation, I’m pretty sure or I’ve always assumed that it has to be activated and it’s not automatic. The only people who has it on all the time is katakuri and fujitora.

And it’s only been shown by a handful of few people! Even more rarer than advanced conquers and Devil fruit awakening! Since only 4 characters are confirmed to have it Katakuri, Luffy, Kaido & shanks

it sounds like your main problem is that you want to understand the chapters and the story better, by learning more about the power system. I do agree advanced observation is complicated, but I really do just think oda likes introducing this stuff, but at the same time he'll have luffy or whoever get hit by an obvious attack because that's what's convenient. Oda's also rushing to finish one piece, so exposition, thinking about indication for his power system, doesn't seem like that's important to Oda. I feel like now that Oda's literally grown old as he wrote his manga, his main goal from here on out is to make sure he can stay interested in his story and have fun with it, since he knows there's still a lot to do before he can finish the story.

Consider Luffy vs Enel where Luffy is immune to his basic attacks and therefore Enel has a chance to show his strategic mind by using the gold and heat against Luffy. Or the progression throughout Alabasta as Luffy learns how to counter Crocodile. Whereas now rather than having to come up with a strategy or lean on the abilities of your crewmates in interesting ways you just slap on some armament and see who can hit harder. That's my personal opinion but I'm open to discussion on where I might be wrong. Hopefully that makes sense how I've worded it.

Characters have to find ways to use their fruits alongside haki to increase they’re strength or attack power. Kaidos fruit is a base amp j because of the nature if it, but luffys gear 4 is literally battle iq isnt it? He learned how to infuse haki w his fruit in a way that makes him way stronger

I think Aokiji and Kizaru being untouchable was also due to the point in the narrative where they were. I think it would still be possible for those characters to be untouchable when first encountered but for the Straw Hats to train in ways other than Haki over the time skip and come back with more diverse power ups and strategies to counter logia users rather than the universal enabler of armament haki. Maybe it could even give characters outside the monster trio more utility within combat e.g. Franky's fresh fire or radical beam being useful against Aokiji or Jinbe being able to reflect/refract the light beam attacks of Kizaru using water shot and similar Fishman karate. I do see where you're coming from though, gear 4 is an awesome and thoughtful use of haki which also comes with a downside making it impactful and a good use of battle IQ however I personally feel like armament haki is more detrimental overall to the storytelling. @@mood5467 another problem with the logia argument is that even if they could have been touched and the logias had no intagibility, no one other than rayleigh could cut kizaru`s hair in that arc, then we know that haki is what made them strong but we have never been shown how haki can make a person literally become a beast of a fighter, zoro is the ONLY exception of a character that we have seen keep up on the top by being "normal", we are seeing how haki is doing abilities akin to df like how joyboy did in egghead with the teleportation, but haki really doesn`t ever feel strong or important, if haki was only shown as "this is used to touch logias" then none of the impact in fights would have changed. the point of this comment is to say how haki is underwhelming and devil fruits really make every fight feel like something is happening, too inconsistent and boring, we know big mom didn`t use conq because Oda just didn`t want to let her win, Law and kid could use their abilities on her even though her haki is stronger (none of them knew advanced conq) , you know why?, because somehow haki wasn`t working and that`s it, inconsistency and stanley`s rule of "whoever wins is who i want to see winning" and it made me quit reading wano till it finished
It’s never going to happen. The reason One Piece lasted so long is because Oda hasn’t explained barely anything solidly. I bet the more he starts really explaining what he’s had people guessing at for over two decades the more people will HATE One Piece. The more they will look back and be like…this made no sense.

There is no problem with observation haki, the future sight only works depending on your mental state and oda mentioned that a few times, the thing about sensing someones haki is not a big of a deal since haki is based on a person will power and it makes if they can sense that Kizaru haki is stronger than someone like Ussoop, for me the only thing that is a bit anoying in observation haki is the amount of variation
To explain kaido going through luffy's observation: there are only 2 possible choices - 1: he travelled so fast he went back in time? (powerscaler argument) 2: future changing (realistic argument) lemme explain 2nd one (the 1st one is just for sweaty powerscalers) luffy looks into the future, and dodges. But kaido's speed and reaction time are both so much higher, he can see luffy dodge if he does it too early, and adjust his aim. Luffy probably dodged right at the last second, as fast as he could, and even then kaido grazed him with one of those spikes or something.
nah I just think it was as simple as Luffy not reacting fast enough in that moment and Kaido just being that fast that if you dont have good FS / excellent base CoO AND you can't move fast enough to dodge it, he bullies you. Theres no need to overcomplicate it imo
Don't think it's that complicated at all like the other person said. Quite simply, Luffy was too slow to dodge Kaido's attack even while being able to see it. And he can't see far enough in the future to have enough advance warning to fully dodge it.

The problem comes when you consider the speed of one piece characters tho - in a mere 1 or 2 seconds of future sight, luffy can easily travel across the length of kaido's body. If kaido just moved as the future dictates, luffy should have no problem dodging him, fast or not. So no, "he's just that fast" isn't a full explanation, but it is quicker.

I also think that it was an effective advance conquerors being used on Luffy because Kaido was imposing his will onto Luffy. Plus future sight requires a lot of focus and Luffy barely had time to breathe in his fight with Kaido
My take on obs haki is that it passively let you detect presence and sneak attacks but if the guy sneaking you has relative or superior mastery over his obs haki, he can hide his presence, and in a fight, it can be activated to a higher level to see your opponents attacks, but again, if the opponent got better obs haki, then it'll come down to whose fast enough
But toriyama gave a good reason in the story for why the tail was removed, in one piece armament haki is only invisible to non haki users, plus for more relevant characters they get their highlighted
But you know in the anime the most this is clarified eg when characters like Luffy or kaido even zoro when they used acoc attacks they where surrounded by different colors auras like red for luffy, kaido was purple and zoro was green even big mom had pink and advanced armament has potryed more clearly and also FS and when a character uses observation haki we always hear a certain background sound if I'm not wrong
I think the extra abilities make it more interesting but how they work when they are active and how they are used in comparison to other haki abilities that are similar needed to be explained more. For future sight specifically a pupil change or the pattern in the eyes could change and it all be the same for future sight users.
Having adv. Conquerers not be clearly different from adv. Armament is the problem like have it not act the same just a boosted armament haki. In visuals and behavior to distinguish and make it unique. Because we wouldn't have the issue of koby if he has adv conquerors with galaxy impact
Haki definitely isn't mimicing other power systems like literally law only knew that because of his df not working like it use to. Only conquerors Haki usage or clashes were you can tell the opponent haki strength. Observation haki is just sensing their life force so characters can sense just strong opponents in general. Without them needing to use haki to show their power
Oda refuses to show any actual visual differences between armament and conqueror, inconsistent "sound effects" and "lightning sizes" are not good enough, even Oda forget to follow these, he could have made a different visual effect entirely for each
I think if Oda gave characters like Nami&Robin haki he could’ve done more unique things with it. But because he gives the highest tiers of haki to pure fighters, it just boils down to “my fist/weapon does way more internal destruction because I was born with conquerors”.
I think the system is fine the problem is the indicators. Oda needs to be separate conquers flow vs armament haki indicators. Having them basically be the same is so but ones bigger is so confusing. If he would shown when someone is using internal destruction things wouldn't be so muddy.
Observation haki is heightened senses but it needs to be activated, you can somewhat compare that to super saiyan Goku when Krillin threw a rock at his head where Goku’s senses are way better but if you turn your mind off you don’t think about the senses and get have your Guard down. My opinion on what the original plan was, conqueror's haki would have the overpowering of will AOE which we have seen Shanks doing to the lord of the coast and on whitebeard's ship. And advance conqueror's haki would allow them to attack logia users and there was no armament haki (Zoro's fight with Mr 1 was probably attributed to finally mastering what his master taught him years ago and was later retconned to be armament haki in Wano when similar lines were used) However,I think Oda or the editors realized that this would highly disadvantage non fruit users or have their growth plateaued and this is why armament was introduced to give non fruit users an edge over logia users and also not falling behind the "chosen ones" with conqueror's haki. This is why I think that armament was just a watered down version of advance conqueror's haki and later on had additions to it. I believe mantra was always supposed to be it's own thing but was later grouped together with the haki power system as observation haki which also had additions later on which leads to the question of how does it work, does it have to be consciously "on" or "off" when in Skypeia it seemed to almost always be "on" Or Oda and team had everything planned out from the beginning and would not like to have a uniformed/unified explanation of how the power system works to not be confined within those rules or so that fights cant be power scaled? Almost everyone has a fighting chance with this arbitrariness?
I feel like obersvation shouldn't be automatic, i feel like you could train yourself to make it. But say for future sight you need to have a calm mind to use it, I think that is not only fair but makes sense.

His will gets stronger the more he has to fight and get closer to achieving his dream and the harder the fights become. ACOC is your ability to impose that will onto others which would be more difficult in enemies bc they are also too shown to have strong wills🤦🏾♂️

the problem i have is conq, what are "kingly ambitions?" i bet everyone has "kingly ambitions", conq haki should be unlocked by a traumatic event aka Doffys, the death of Ace on both Sabo and Luffy, more anger, rage to speed up the process, you know the whole shbang,(that may vary, what traumatize you might not traumatize the next), and your spirit should be the one that gives it power, to differentiate between classes of people, aka a farmer could have conq haki and have a weak spirit in return. that would be your excuse for giving all admirals and vice admirals conq haki, their will will determine the outcome of the battle and yes, im on the(AA)Admiral Agenda
Haki is usually hot garbage because of its portrayal and uses. The three types makes sense until we start getting into ACOC and Ryou. Oda made COC too damn strong to be a balanced system. It not only knocks weak willed opponents out instantly, it now can dura-neg, be sealed into objects, make your COA stronger, and possibly stop COO from working (if Shanks “Killer of Observation Haki” epitaph comes from him using ACOC to stop Future Sight.). At this point, there is no reason to have a devil fruit or to try and be a top tier without being born with COC. Being born with COC makes you automatically better than 99% of the world. All of the people most proficient in Haki don’t use devil fruits. Mihawk is probably the best COO user in the verse, Shanks/Roger are the best COC users in the verse, and Garp seems to be the best COA users in the verse. The closest people would be Whitebeard and Kaido but they don’t have the narrative to put them that high. Tldr: Haki is ass. Haki itself makes DFs obsolete which takes away part of the power balance. COC haki makes COA and COO haki obsolete so there is even more unbalance.

One Piece's Final Arc is going to take at least three years and we just entered the Legoland, there is still Elbaf and so many other things... It will not take 3 years but 10 years at least for One Piece to finish.

@@mood5467 in my personal opinion it almost completely invalidates devil fruit counter strategy or elemental counters. Consider Luffy vs Enel where Luffy is immune to his basic attacks and therefore Enel has a chance to show his strategic mind by using the gold and heat against Luffy. Or the progression throughout Alabasta as Luffy learns how to counter Crocodile. Whereas now rather than having to come up with a strategy or lean on the abilities of your crewmates in interesting ways you just slap on some armament and see who can hit harder. That's my personal opinion but I'm open to discussion on where I might be wrong. Hopefully that makes sense how I've worded it.

Characters have to find ways to use their fruits alongside haki to increase they’re strength or attack power. Kaidos fruit is a base amp j because of the nature if it, but luffys gear 4 is literally battle iq isnt it? He learned how to infuse haki w his fruit in a way that makes him way stronger
@@mood5467 You definitely bring up some valid points, they are both different ways of expressing battle IQ. I think Aokiji and Kizaru being untouchable was also due to the point in the narrative where they were. I think it would still be possible for those characters to be untouchable when first encountered but for the Straw Hats to train in ways other than Haki over the time skip and come back with more diverse power ups and strategies to counter logia users rather than the universal enabler of armament haki. Maybe it could even give characters outside the monster trio more utility within combat e.g. Franky's fresh fire or radical beam being useful against Aokiji or Jinbe being able to reflect/refract the light beam attacks of Kizaru using water shot and similar Fishman karate.
I do see where you're coming from though, gear 4 is an awesome and thoughtful use of haki which also comes with a downside making it impactful and a good use of battle IQ however I personally feel like armament haki is more detrimental overall to the storytelling. (At least in its current form)

@@mood5467 another problem with the logia argument is that even if they could have been touched and the logias had no intagibility, no one other than rayleigh could cut kizaru`s hair in that arc, then we know that haki is what made them strong but we have never been shown how haki can make a person literally become a beast of a fighter, zoro is the ONLY exception of a character that we have seen keep up on the top by being "normal", we are seeing how haki is doing abilities akin to df like how joyboy did in egghead with the teleportation, but haki really doesn`t ever feel strong or important, if haki was only shown as "this is used to touch logias" then none of the impact in fights would have changed.
the point of this comment is to say how haki is underwhelming and devil fruits really make every fight feel like something is happening, too inconsistent and boring, we know big mom didn`t use conq because Oda just didn`t want to let her win, Law and kid could use their abilities on her even though her haki is stronger (none of them knew advanced conq) , you know why?, because somehow haki wasn`t working and that`s it, inconsistency and stanley`s rule of "whoever wins is who i want to see winning" and it made me quit reading wano till it finished

There is no problem with observation haki, the future sight only works depending on your mental state and oda mentioned that a few times, the thing about sensing someones haki is not a big of a deal since haki is based on a person will power and it makes if they can sense that Kizaru haki is stronger than someone like Ussoop, for me the only thing that is a bit anoying in observation haki is the amount of variation
To explain kaido going through luffy's observation:
there are only 2 possible choices - 1: he travelled so fast he went back in time? (powerscaler argument) 2: future changing (realistic argument)
lemme explain 2nd one (the 1st one is just for sweaty powerscalers)
luffy looks into the future, and dodges. But kaido's speed and reaction time are both so much higher, he can see luffy dodge if he does it too early, and adjust his aim. Luffy probably dodged right at the last second, as fast as he could, and even then kaido grazed him with one of those spikes or something.
nah I just think it was as simple as Luffy not reacting fast enough in that moment and Kaido just being that fast that if you dont have good FS / excellent base CoO AND you can't move fast enough to dodge it, he bullies you. Theres no need to overcomplicate it imo
Don't think it's that complicated at all like the other person said. Quite simply, Luffy was too slow to dodge Kaido's attack even while being able to see it. And he can't see far enough in the future to have enough advance warning to fully dodge it.

The problem comes when you consider the speed of one piece characters tho - in a mere 1 or 2 seconds of future sight, luffy can easily travel across the length of kaido's body. If kaido just moved as the future dictates, luffy should have no problem dodging him, fast or not. So no, "he's just that fast" isn't a full explanation, but it is quicker.

I also think that it was an effective advance conquerors being used on Luffy because Kaido was imposing his will onto Luffy. Plus future sight requires a lot of focus and Luffy barely had time to breathe in his fight with Kaido
My take on obs haki is that it passively let you detect presence and sneak attacks but if the guy sneaking you has relative or superior mastery over his obs haki, he can hide his presence, and in a fight, it can be activated to a higher level to see your opponents attacks, but again, if the opponent got better obs haki, then it'll come down to whose fast enough

I think the extra abilities make it more interesting but how they work when they are active and how they are used in comparison to other haki abilities that are similar needed to be explained more. For future sight specifically a pupil change or the pattern in the eyes could change and it all be the same for future sight users.
Having adv. Conquerers not be clearly different from adv. Armament is the problem like have it not act the same just a boosted armament haki. In visuals and behavior to distinguish and make it unique. Because we wouldn't have the issue of koby if he has adv conquerors with galaxy impact
Haki definitely isn't mimicing other power systems like literally law only knew that because of his df not working like it use to. Only conquerors Haki usage or clashes were you can tell the opponent haki strength. Observation haki is just sensing their life force so characters can sense just strong opponents in general. Without them needing to use haki to show their power
Oda refuses to show any actual visual differences between armament and conqueror, inconsistent "sound effects" and "lightning sizes" are not good enough, even Oda forget to follow these, he could have made a different visual effect entirely for each
I think if Oda gave characters like Nami&Robin haki he could’ve done more unique things with it. But because he gives the highest tiers of haki to pure fighters, it just boils down to “my fist/weapon does way more internal destruction because I was born with conquerors”.

I think the system is fine the problem is the indicators. Oda needs to be separate conquers flow vs armament haki indicators. Having them basically be the same is so but ones bigger is so confusing. If he would shown when someone is using internal destruction things wouldn't be so muddy.
Observation haki is heightened senses but it needs to be activated, you can somewhat compare that to super saiyan Goku when Krillin threw a rock at his head where Goku’s senses are way better but if you turn your mind off you don’t think about the senses and get have your Guard down. Another thing about observation haki is dependant on the user’s speed, reaction speed and perception against the opponent. Example is in Amazon Lily Sandersonia vs Luffy Gear 2 where Gear 2 was too fast fo Sandersonia’s Observation haki, its like comparing a horse who can see what will happen vs a car going to drive into that horse at 220mph The horse is cooked
Haki not only sharpens your senses but also can somewhat read the intent of the target like the non-combative variant Otihime uses in Fishman island her Observation haki allows her to feel the emotions of her people, not all observation haki is the same people have unique diversity of observation haki.

I think the main thing is oda should just make clear visuals for what Haki is being used. I do think emission and internal are unnecessary. Fs and sky split cool so keep that. My opinion on what the original plan was,
conqueror's haki would have the overpowering of will AOE which we have seen Shanks doing to the lord of the coast and on whitebeard's ship. And advance conqueror's haki would allow them to attack logia users and there was no armament haki (Zoro's fight with Mr 1 was probably attributed to finally mastering what his master taught him years ago and was later retconned to be armament haki in Wano when similar lines were used)
However,I think Oda or the editors realized that this would highly disadvantage non fruit users or have their growth plateaued and this is why armament was introduced to give non fruit users an edge over logia users and also not falling behind the "chosen ones" with conqueror's haki. This is why I think that armament was just a watered down version of advance conqueror's haki and later on had additions to it.
I believe mantra was always supposed to be it's own thing but was later grouped together with the haki power system as observation haki which also had additions later on which leads to the question of how does it work, does it have to be consciously "on" or "off" when in Skypeia it seemed to almost always be "on"

Armament: emission is to outwardly express your armor and internal is to bypass regular defenses to attack opponents. It’s not complicated
Conquerers: NO luffy shouldn’t start off with his will at 10 and basically beat everyone bc of it. His will gets stronger the more he has to fight and get closer to achieving his dream and the harder the fights become. ACOC is your ability to impose that will onto others which would be more difficult in enemies bc they are also too shown to have strong wills🤦🏾♂️

the problem i have is conq, what are "kingly ambitions?" i bet everyone has "kingly ambitions", conq haki should be unlocked by a traumatic event aka Doffys, the death of Ace on both Sabo and Luffy, more anger, rage to speed up the process, you know the whole shbang,(that may vary, what traumatize you might not traumatize the next), and your spirit should be the one that gives it power, to differentiate between classes of people, aka a farmer could have conq haki and have a weak spirit in return. that would be your excuse for giving all admirals and vice admirals conq haki, their will will determine the outcome of the battle and yes, im on the(AA)Admiral Agenda
Haki is usually hot garbage because of its portrayal and uses.
The three types makes sense until we start getting into ACOC and Ryou. Oda made COC too damn strong to be a balanced system. It not only knocks weak willed opponents out instantly, it now can dura-neg, be sealed into objects, make your COA stronger, and possibly stop COO from working (if Shanks “Killer of Observation Haki” epitaph comes from him using ACOC to stop Future Sight.).
At this point, there is no reason to have a devil fruit or to try and be a top tier without being born with COC. Being born with COC makes you automatically better than 99% of the world.
All of the people most proficient in Haki don’t use devil fruits. Mihawk is probably the best COO user in the verse, Shanks/Roger are the best COC users in the verse, and Garp seems to be the best COA users in the verse. The closest people would be Whitebeard and Kaido but they don’t have the narrative to put them that high.
Tldr: Haki is ass. Haki itself makes DFs obsolete which takes away part of the power balance. COC haki makes COA and COO haki obsolete so there is even more unbalance.

One piece powers are a mess. Its not even just devil fruits and haki, theres so much nonesense like rokushiki and sword arts that make no sense. Why couldnt it just be one system? Instead we have characters just making up abilities half the time. Take water 7 for example, every character was just making up attacks that make no sense. How the hell does Sanji set his leg on fire and not burn his clothes? How does Zoro shoot lasers from his sword? Nothing makes sense.
