    If you use Apple mail on iOS then you can highlight a part of the email and then use share function with reminders app
    When you go to reminders app the task is there with a mail icon which you can click to open the relevant email
    This is very useful to convert email to task

      Thank you for sharing that. That's an awesome feature.

      Looks like this also works with contacts. Also you can drag pics from photos, message bubbles from messages and URLs from Safari into reminders but the latter three don’t link back.

    Carl- the opening comment about setting the default folder on an iOS device you do it in Settings>>Reminders>>Default List.

      Thank you soooooo much Sam. This has been bugging me forever! Siri was sending reminders to my 'shopping' list and not my 'reminder' list. THANK YOU! :)

    Thank you for sharing. I might go back and play with reminders a little more. If you did want to change the default list in iOS, under settings in your main settings app, go to reminders. Under reminders, default list will be below seri and search. I hope I can get a note to open directly in the notes app on my iPhone. Sounds pretty useful.

    Carl the big thing that brought me back to reminders was now it supports some natural language input.

    In Reminders, it is not clear when you set a repeat Reminder in that I would expect once the first in the sequence of that reminder comes up and you acknowledge or action it, then that reminder should not be continuously displayed - it should not display until the next in the sequence of reminders comes up - as it currently stands, it remains highlighted after the first reminder?

    • @Carl_Pullein

      It will continue to show in the original list. Once you auctioned the task in the today view, it should disappear. Or at least it does with my Reminders.

    A problem with Apple Reminders is that it is not updated through the App Store like other reminder apps. So while they are getting constant updates throughout the year we have to wait until an Apple Keynote once a year to maybe hear about an update.

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  4 года назад +1

      When I think about that - I wish other apps would update once a year too. That way we have less reasons to play around with or learn new features and we can get on and do our work. That's a far more productive way to operate.

    Nice tricks! Please go on with native iOS Apps: you’ve just gained a new subscriber 😉

    If you use Calendar 5 by Readdle, scheduled Apple Reminders automatically appear on the calendar as a task.

      Fantastical 2 does the same thing. Don't use the feature, personally but I can see how many would find it useful.

    Hi Carl. Thanks for the great tips. I set mine up on the I mac but it doesn't appear to sync with the phone or the I pad. Any thoughts?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  4 года назад +1

      Check that you are using the same Apple ID across all your devices (that's a mistake I made) if that's all okay, make sure your tasks are going to iCloud by viewing your tasks on Reminders in iCloud.
      After that, I'm not sure why they would not be syncing. Oh, check that you have synching turned on in your iCloud settings.

      Shelley, make sure all of tour devices are on the lates operating system - iCloud reminders won’t sync until thy are. Here’s an article about this very thing: www.imore.com/if-you-use-reminders-app-lot-read-updating-ios-13

    Hello Carl, thank you for the comprehensive tips on how to best set up apps reminders. Im basically using your COD system and have set up reminders pretty much like you. However, Im having issues with the Mac version of Reminders regarding the inbox lists. I can't move the tasks in the inbox to other lists as you show in your video, undermining the effectiveness of my collecting process. Any ideas why I can't move tasks in Mac?

      Hmm are you using Catalina? I just checked mine and you can drag and drop fine. Not sure what is wrong there.

  • @7ommus

    Why don’t you just use the reminders app as a checklist for shopping list?

    We got this big update but then we have to wait until the next iOS version in September of next year to receive another update?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  4 года назад

      Hi Patrick, I think that's a problem with our expectations, not Apple or developers. We've come to expect more and more features (mostly ones we don't need) and feel disappointed when we don't get them (see Evernote) Yet, as long as the app does what it is supposed to do - show us the tasks we want/need to do when we need to do them - then there's no reason to want more.

    It isn't wise to show us a feature without being able to show us how to do it. Saying look it up isn't a smart feature, best not to mention it.

    I agree, I almost feel reminders is now too bloated for what it is. I keep sticking w/ ToDoist. The filters are the killer feature it has over any other task manager I have tried

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  4 года назад

      I've continued to use it as my shopping list and apart from having to tap an extra button or two to view the list, it still works fine. I use Siri to add items to my list.

    The reminder app doesn’t work like this on the IPad. Groups don’t work and icons don’t either. iCloud syncing is missing. There are a lot of differences between Mac, IPads and iPhone. Sad!!!

      I have an iPad 9.7 inch that fails. I cloud on my iPhone X doesn’t sync. I just went to 13.1.3 and still have the issue.

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  4 года назад

      I've not had any problems with sync across any of my devices. If anything the sync is now much faster than it was is iOS12. I had Reminders open go my laptop and iPad at the same time any it was syncing in almost real time. Quite impressive really.

    It’s too bad that Notes Reminders don’t sync changes. I feel Apple moves in the right direction most of the time, but then misses little obvious greatness.

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  4 года назад +1

      At least you can get back to the original note by a quick tap to make any changes.

    • @nunya6589

      Reminders not syncing with Notes may be on purpose.

    • @technologist1412
      @technologist1412 4 года назад

      Nun Ya yeah, I guess if you think about it, it’s just a reminder about the note, not a not replacement. Makes sense.

      I think that Carl fogot tap „Done” in Notes. I dont have Catalina yet to check it.
