This video is now approaching 10 years old but it's still by far the best instructional on how to deep clean your bike. I much prefer WD40 over the high PH level cleaners that could turn your bike rusty if you don't manage to rinse it all off.
Thanks for the guide! I'm new to riding, got my licence about 2 months ago. Stripped the bike down and cleaned it just like you did. I have to say, cleaning the bike is addictive!
Thanks for those kind words matey, very much appreciated. The brush is from Autoglym, I believe Muc off do a set of brushes too. The only problem with owning a BROS is that everything else seems badly built in comparison. Cheers Nick Hine
Clean fresh water that is allowed to dry off quickly will of course be fine. I usually role and tip the bike carefully to make sure as much of the water has drained off. The bike should be protected from the effects of rain after all. Cheers Nick Hine
@OriginalPriapismSD Most relatively modern motorcycles are going to have sealed bearings. The pressure form a garden hose isn't high enough to cause too many issue. However, using a power washer is bad idea.
14 years! It’s like it was filmed on a potato. I hate cleaning until I start... then I can’t stop. I listen to podcasts and spend 3-4 hrs easy! The odd thing is the next day I feel like doing it again... not sure why.
like the vids man.definately the best comprehensive how to on youtube. im a clean freak like this, i get enjoyment whenever i give my bike a detail clean. i would have enjoyed cleaning that bike with you, looked like great fun!
Totally depends where you live and what conditions you ride in. I like to at least keep my wheels and calipers clean as brake dust is the worst thing to get off. I also regularly clean my exhausts and engine casing as dirt will bake onto them. oil flung from your chain will actually protect parts of your bike. Making cleaning a weekly ritual is no bad thing I guess. I am a very 'sad' little man when it comes to keeping my bikes and cars clean. Take care and thanks Nick Hine
I just get them from my local motor factors, not a halfords type place but a proper trade place, EK brakes in my case (North West England), they're about £14, so a darn sight cheaper than spray cans. Cheers Nick Hine
That's the myth behind pressure washers. Most domestic ones will not be powerful enough to get past the seals in your bearings. They will strip flaky paint though, that's more of a concern. I've never managed yet to screw up bearings using one. Cheers Nick
Cheers matey, too kind. By the way we're doing a car one in a few weeks. Just bought the worlds filthiest Porsche 924 for filming. Kind regards Nick Hine
Nothing wrong with a good old fashioned Hollywood accent of course, and I'll bet your English is better than my Greek :) As for subs, we just don't have the time I'm afraid. BTW we've just taken delievry of our first lot of Autoglym products so we'll be selling them on our website very soon. Cheers matey
some people don't do WD40 directly on their chain because it's controversial , I've heard you can avoid the possible problem with WD40 and chains by applying it on a rag / brush first instead of spraying it directly on ... , for other parts it doesn't really matter so much.
@3:15 I have some Autoglym Motorcycle Cleaner which I tried under the bonnet of my car. It took the shine off the paint which couldnt be restored. So be warned and follow the instructions on a new product and try on an out of the way place first before splashing everywhere
Impressive dedication!! And quite a bit of good know how but why the heck doing it all, or worse, pressure washing it of IN FRONT OF A WHITE HOUSE?? *LOL* Me myself is a practical guy washing the bike just take off mechanical protective oil based film I rather have a well working bike than a shiny bike with grinding bearings or later on even worse oxidising parts. Be careful cleaning! Leaving it out for a short rain is my way ;o) /Practical Swede
Hi Nick, I enjoyed your vids very much. Just bought a 95 VFR 750, but not that dirty ^^ My question is about the degreasers. Do you spray the fairings with both the oilbased and the waterbased one ? Haven't watched you do it with the oilbased one in the video.
Well in a perfect world yes, but you need to take the cardboard away which means putting the bike back on it's wheels, otherwise the oil soaked cardboard turns into a enormous mushy mess. This way is the lesser of two evils. To be really pedantic you could always take the rear wheel off again, but I find the way I did gives good enough reults. Regards Nick.
Is it alright to use a power washer on the bike? My owner manual says avoid using high pressure jets on the engine so it doesn't get into the electrical components.
Possibly dumb question but you say wd40 is kerosine based so it dissolves it well, so why not just use kerosine instead of wd40? I feel like that might be cheaper if we're to just drown the bike in it lol
dude ur a maniac u can brush the dirt with a brush and degreaser and then just put some water to clean the dirt no wd40 and degreaser.pointless use of expensive products that they go on floor and nothing else.5 litres of wd40 its about 50dollars and u throw the half down.good result but bad and plenty use of products

15 years and still awesome!
You don't joke around when it comes to cleaning a bike. This is incredibly thorough.
Thanks for the guide!

This guy is my cleaning hero. I would definitely buy him a pint!

dont see how people can let their bikes get so bad!!!!!!

How come this 15 year old video is better than 90% of bullshit on youtube nowadays?

Top tutorial, best vid I've seen
You describe yourself as a “clean freak” but you haven’t cleaned your bike for 10 years ?!
Yes a freak indeed
Cheers matey, too kind.

5 lovely litres! buy-in-bulk-tastic.
Nick.
Great vid, just subscribed
What a dirty ass bike!...Damn.
😂 2:18 "and yes I am sad"
Use starter spray on all naked metal like a unpainted aluminum, it eats dirt, tar and old hard oil.
***** and carburetor cleaner spray is even better...
How often would you recommend giving your bike a proper wash?

What oil-based cleaning product are you using? Top video btw... Can't wait to get to work on my B12

@milez1987
Yep, works just as well.
Where can I get a nylon brush like that
What can you do if your brake pads are contaminated and don't work properly
fanger307 change them
Can I substitute WD40 with just kerosene?
Magari in HD !!! va bene lo stesso :)
i wish you could clean my bike xD
I didn't catch the Barry Scott reference because I'm not from England.
where do I get the elbow grease?
just break it down and sandblast !
what if rust?
its a lot easier to clean it with steam
how many bottles of wd40 did you go thourhg? lol
thought my bike is dirty but after watching how dirty is yours... i would wrap my tires around with news paper or packaging paper
Speaking English with an English accent, how bloody dare I...
If everyone did this, bikers would have another bad name to them. The amount of WD40 used is gross.
Worst Barry Scott Impression. Eveeeer. /CBD
thanks dude! I love You man! let me kiss you. HAHA! :D
me2 Its Very Boring But its wort it
I'd pay you good money to do this for me :P
