I wear a balaclava under my helmet so my face/head gunk doesn't contaminate the helmet as much. Balaclavas are way easier to clean since i just yeet them into the washer
same, 2 years prior to me start wearing a balaclava my helmet stinks after few months so i had to clean em occasionally especially because i live in a humid tropical environment.
I second that. I have a summer Balaclava with venting holes. And one for the winter . Works a treat and protects your helmet. Also ideal for protecting your neck
I recently bought a second set of cheek pads and liner for my helmet. Since I ride so often, it's sometimes hard to find a day in which I have time to wash and dry the pads. Also, I just throw my cheek pads in the wash - put the pads into a laundry net, like ones for brassieres so it doesn't get damaged or damage something else, and let everything line dry at home. I wash my pads this way maybe 3-4 times a year, and the pads hold up after 2 years. I should probably also say the washing machine I use is a front loading one, and I have an AGV K6. It's possible some cheaper cheek pads and liners won't like being thrown around in a washing machine, even in a laundry net.
Seconded on this method. Set everything to delicate on your washer and let em air dry. Works great on my Arai, HJC RPHA 70ST, and Bell Race Star. A hot paper towel and then microfiber to wipe away works superbly 👌
I wash mine about twice a year, in my front loader. I use a gentle cycle, and it does the job nicely, and safely. In between, I use a UV/Ozone light, to kill the bacteria, and neutralise any smell. I do this about once a month on average. Isopropyl alcohol make a great visor cleaner, and is safe to use on the shell also. Avoid using house hold glass cleaner, as it can fog your visor, or even damage the helmet shell. The baby shampoo is a neat idea. I did have to use shampoo once, to wash an old helmet, as the liner would not come fully out, so I use a hand shower to wash and rinse it. Came up nice and clean.
I've been using Motorex helmet cleaner for a few years now, and I love the product. I use it only on the the inside, and use dish soap and hot water for the exterior shell. Great video.
The easiest and cheapest method is spraying the water on the helmet ad putting paper towels on that wet surface, spray them again a little more and wait a minute. Softened by water bugs come off really easy. After clean put some quick detailer on the shell to make dirt stick less.
I bought this sane cleaner because of your last video about helmet-cleaning products. That can lasts forever! I've had it for about 6 months; my husband and I both use it about once a month, and we still have plenty left. Thanks for all your tips, they're really helpful! I especially like your bike washing wall. So clever!
I put my helmet liners in a pillow case (I tie a knot so they stay inside), and in the washing machine and let them air dry on a rack. Have been doing it for years (once or twice per year) on all my helmets with great results (I typically keep my helmets 5-6 years).
I've used a helmet liner since day one and it really helps keep your helmet cleaner. It's hot most of the year where I live and helmet liners are cheap and can be machine washed. I still clean my helmets, but they've never been really nasty or had any odor.
I clean my visor every time after a ride and the quickest and easiest (and really effective) way is just too soak a paper towel in water, stick it on your visor (if its not sticking its definetly not wet enough), and let it soak for about 10 min. After that you just have to pull it of and wipe dry with a clean paper towel (use soft kitchen papers otherwise you will scratch your visor)
Thank you! I have some goggles that require a little maintenance which is cool you just soak it in hot water after every ride which cleans it and is maintenance so it's hitting 2 birds with 1 stone
I once bought an LS2 that stained my cheeks. So I had to disassemble it and wash it 5 times since I didn’t want to return it as I bought it online. It was a good exercise to learn how to do it.
For outside I use simple paper towel and water. Just put it on for a minute or two. All junk and bugs get wet and then it is super easy to clean up. No chemistry required ;-)
I wash my helmet thoroughly once a year, in the winter when I'm not riding. But I just throw the liner into the washing machine and comes out perfect. I also fully submerge the hard shell and wash it gently to get water in all the crevices and soften all the bugs. Just don't, ever, jamais, mix these two steps and throw your hard shell in the washing machine. No bueno.
Hand wash the liner and chin pads? I just chuck them in the washer and let them dry out for a day. I’m in an Icon airform. Never an issue with refitting the pads. Great channel, just discovered you!
Hah my helmet is from 2012 and I just cleaned it. Two points, insides can go in washer and then air dry. If you wash the helmet in a metal sink, put a soft or rubber liner in the bottom lest you get sone of those not quite scratches that don't come off with armour all.
Easiest and cheapest way to clean helmet visor or bug-splattered windshield: get a clean, soft towel or wash cloth; dampen it with hot, clean water and lay it on the visor and leave it there for awhile. Remove it and repeat until clean. Works well when you are in the road at gas stations. You can use paper towels. Don't scrub at all.
I use ONR (Optimum No Rinse) for cleaning the outside, it's a rinseless wash for automotive paint and works like a treat, It loosens and softens the bugs, and they wipe off in one swipe. Makes no scratches and leaves a bit of gloss! never cleaned the inside to be honest.
Mate, can I advise you to use helmet cushion for your helmet when you're working on it? The helmet won't move around while working on it and there's less chance you will damage the outside shell.
I usually love your videos. However the helmet cleaning one is not my favorite. Cleaning bugs on the visor is to be done every single time you ride, except when it rains a lot or it freezes deep. And it should be done as soon as possible, while the bug guts are still soft... Other option is a spare visor (that should be given with any helmet) so you can let one in a bucket of water overnight...while making the other dirty or... when you postponed the cleaning... Cleaning the outer surfaces is just for the look. A wet sponge and dish washing soap is the best way to go. Never SPRAY nor SOAK! You don't want any liquid or chemical IN the shell. Cleaning the inside is just the same. IN MY OPINION, never spray IN the shell. If the wet chemicals are at any rate bacteriostatic (or bacteriocid) I will not have my head in the helmet again without a read deep rinsing. If they are NOT VERY GOOD bacteriocid (and working in sterile for a good period of my career...I can tell they are NOT) it will just kill the weaker and make a nice environment for the rest.
@@fabienbable remove any possible padding, baby shampoo on the padding is ok. But use lukewarm water to soak and add shampoo directly on the padding. Rincing a lot after. All the rest of the rest, same water/shampoo clean in/out, rince ... Using low minerals water (NOT SOFTENED WATER) if available.

Yoooo, that foam works for the INSIDE of the helmet?
NIIIIIICE.
Well, I did the one in which you hand wash it today(didnt know this video came out). My helmet feels way better and smells really really really good.

Suggest resting the helmet on a soft cloth or small towel, instead of the hard table top.
Bike maintenance days, are gear maintenance days.
As for balaclava/gloves, it's around 3-5 rides before i feel it requires a refreshment.
Washed my HJC padding in washing machine. Works perfectly
I just put the cushions in the dishwasher and the helmet too
Another good video I used lemon washing up liquid on the inside parts of my helmet but now I seen your video will try the baby shampoo idea
Great job G I'll send ya mine u won't believe 🤯
I have never washed the inners of my lid, I suppose I should. Maybe I'll just get some new check pads lol. I do like the motorex spray idea though 👍🏼
LOL! I use baby soap to wash my helmet in and out too. I thought it was gentle and wouldn't cause any wear to my helmet or cause allergy reactions.
apply some car-polish-wax after washing. bugs will stick less!

We have the same helmet. Does your’e head hurts because of linings??
I last washed my helmet yesterday. I used Dawn dish soap and I can notice a difference in the fit. Bad timing..
Can you share about the pricing and model details of your helmet sir?

How do you rate the LS2 helmet man?
As someone that had a new kid today and killed its 1st bug I need this, my old one is awful 😂
Buy helmet liners and wear them and wash them regularly. They will absorb sweat and hair/grease oil. Surprises me that he didn’t mention them.
I use helmet sprey on inside parts , every 500km. And 1/y remove parts and clean in washing mashine … :)
I have a Scorpion Exo. Lucky for me, it says I must chuck the inners into the washing mashing for a good wash!
Guess what I'm doing tomorrow! 😂🤣😂🤣
Love the vids
Well, not yet to answer you in short. It's not a month old :D Great vid, and good advise to follow. Thanks!
I use baby wipes to wipe the outside and visor's after every ride.
If I put the snow foam inside the Helmet how will I remove it
my cheek pads are not removable, so, how do I clean them then?
1:42 that’s exactly what it feels like to wear glasses and then clean them after a month 🤣

True
How could you not wipe bugs off at the very least after every ride??
2:14 - I had to pause... Is that Pootin?! 🤔😀
Thanks for the vid. It's time to clean my helmet. I like your lazy method.
I used to destroy the paddings by machine washing them. Nowadays, I use the shampoo that I use to wash my hair.
Its like u know I’ve just purchased 4 helmets last week
I saw you by bikers warehouse
Be careful if you have colorful visors. The Motul Helmet Cleaner scratched by golden Visor
detergent of any kind lots of detergent and a sponge clean under running water until clesr water comes out leave in the sun thats it
I like my bike as dirty as possible, this means it was a good day on the trails
Why u step method spray foam inside first and then u remove padding after? lol
cool thanks
Dang I done threw my padding in the washer😂🤦🏾♂️
I just put the helmet in the dishwasher.
I came home from a 4-hour ride and it felt like a meat buffet on my vizor btw I wear a baclava in my helm
I use Nivea on mine, it’s just as soft, u forgot to clean the helmet straps!
yeah I usually just remove the pads inside and throw them at the washing machine...
Inner side never cuz I wear mask which is cleaned every 2-4 rides . Viser is cleaning only with water and kitchen paper
Motivated
I just cleaned mine haha got left out in the rain

I bet the chemicals aren't good for your health too. That's why most of the helmets padding is removable. So you can do it the humane way.
And you use dish soap? Noooooooo!
Get yourself a DooRag as it'll keep the inside of your helmet fresher for longer...
Meanwhile I take the even lazier method and yeet the liners into the washing machine 😂
You guys wear helmets? My vtwin freedom machine protects me from all ailments!
Oh god please don't tell me you only wash the liners once a year. For me, every week on the summer season and I only ride twice a week.
Water and magic eraser, all you need
It's time to clean my helmet.
I have to wash my helmet liners every 2 months or so 😥
Never yet and it's two years old
I just throw the inside in the wash once a month or so
Cleaning the inside? Haven't done that since I bought it 7 years ago...
I think I’ll just buy a new helmet every year🤷🏾♂️
Nice Putin shade 👏
I polish my helmet every morning
I just chuck my helmet in the washing machine

He sounds European, though.
Isn't Europe supposed to be a continent filled with first world countries?
Only nasty people and beginner doesn't wear balaclava before put helmet on.

Ur bike is for riding not for cleaning 😉
