The original versions of fantasy creatures are a lot darker:
-sirens lured sailors to their dooms with song alone.
-faeries stole babies, and then replaced them with wood or other fae.
Fairies in some cultures lured people wondering in the dark and put spells on them. If you spoke in their presence they supposedly would steal your voice.

In my country there is a dark fairytale where a little girl lied down on the grass in the back yard of her house,and she let butterflies lick away her tears,because her tears were sweet.
But the butterflies soon started going inside of her body once they realized that’s where the sweetness came from,and started drinking the little girl’s blood like vampires while she screamed in pain,calling for help.But the butterflies didn’t care.They sucked all her blood and went off to do this to other people.
I heard about this when I was around 8,and it haunted me for a few days.
Actually, butterflies will drink blood from carcasses, they don't just feed on nectar/fruits/what-have-you. Although I don't think they'd kill a person for their blood, they mostly stick to dead bodies; unless they're like, demon butterflies. Also, may I ask what culture this is from? It sounds very interesting, and I'd like to read more!

As someone studying to be a marine biologist with a fascination of abyssal plain animals, I love the mermaid design. I just wish you had put in the mermaid fin tail to give more of a mermaid silhouette. You can keep the stinger (The tail of the stingray is not the stinger, but the stinger is attached to the tail.)

I think that people don't use the fins are ears as much as aesthetically it looks strange to draw a character with nothing there when you draw mostly people, so they use them as more just like fins. At least, that's what I do when I draw characters, I add fins here and there to make them look more...Aesthetic...if you can call like...a demon fish person aesthetic.

I actually made a mermaid drawing that my sister hated and threw away because she told me to draw her a mermaid, so...I did. But she was green, had huge yellow eyes, and sharp teeth. She wasn't like Ariel. She cried and I got in trouble, but it was worth it. She was 11 at the time so I didn't actually feel that bad since she wasn't a little kid anymore.

(From what I've read) Greek mythology actually DOES have mermaids, the fifty daughters of Poseidon, sisters to Triton. Sirens are more sea/gulfbird and woman, but mermaids from old myths tend to have a lot of siren-like qualities. But fish-like creepy mermaids are awesome and elegant in a unique way that I adore.

I actually read a book when I was a lot younger about a fairy who actually had a bat friend. It was mainly about the fairy but the way they met was because the bat ate her wings not knowing it was a fairy. He then flew around and served her in an attempt to make it up to her.

creepy mermaids is how i've always imagined mermaids being naturally??? if they live in the depths of the ocean so we can't see them, theyd have to be able to survive some terrifying shit. They'd have to be beautiful in some way to match up with their lore at least somewhat, but they'd have to look threatening at the same time to keep predators away, maybe in a lionfish sorta way. A mermaid could probably kill a guy in one swipe if they were real, how else would they have survived long enough for us to see them at some point?

When I saw the floating face thing I thought it looked like the mermaids stole/borrowed/ripped apart(maybe) the faces(maybe heads) of their recent victims if they were pretty. Actually, real mermaids are more fish like than human like. Most of them do come from the deep sea and they are hostile, mimicry is something they use to attract other animals underwater so that could be what created the 'siren'. So all mermaids are sirens. Fairies are one thing in a whole genre of Faeries or Fae Folk. Elves, Brownies, Trolls, Goblins, etc. Most of the miniature fairies dont have wings. All Fae Folk hide and you cannot see them unless they want you to see them. Fairies take things from your house so if things go missing leave out a bowl of cream and they might return it.

Honestly, I love this, but I always get a bit annoyed when people mistake FAEries and Fairies. The Fae are what we’re known for stealing children, Fairies were actually based on a type of fae, a pixie, known for causing infestations in homes.

I google what the difference was between faery and fairy and the results were 50/50 fairy= good faery=bad and they're the same, just faery is the archaeological spelling. also.... I'm sure different cultures interpret fairies or fairy like creatures differently, so keep that in mind.

If mermaids were real, they would actually look something like this. People with proof of mermaids (I watch a lot of conspiracy theory videos) say that, if mermaids even had/have hair, it would be an ugly green in oily tendrils rather then the more Ariel-like hair. Sirens were persephone's hand maidens who were cursed to be ugly half birds for giving up their search when she was taken. They had beautiful singing voices and lured sailors to their deaths that way. They did eventually fail and as part of another curse they threw themselves into the sea and drowned.

The fairy reminded me of a series where the fairies had butterfly wings but razor sharp teeth, they would also eat bugs, while pixies had dragonfly wings and more human-like teeth, but they lived off of pollen. Also when I was watching this a huge storm rolled in, the wind almost broke my fan... and the power went out when switching drawings it added a great transition bit.
There was a mosquito on my iPad once so I slapped it and blood splattered across my screen. What’s even more unsettling is the next morning my mum said that she had a very big mosquito bite.
The third one looks a bit like a crossover between Elias from Ancient Magus Bride and Wilson from Don't Starve :P

A not-so-fun fact about horse skulls: they have their whole lifetime supply of tooth in their skulls, when they're born, those teeth almost touch their eyes, look it up

Houn Sled not really, humans and lot of other animals do have two sets of teeth in their skulls but with horses it's literally just one big block they use for their whole lives (i'm a vet nurse student and it looks really creepy)

The fairy is actually pretty cute. It reminds me of just a more real earthy fairy, not a sparkly human one. I imagine real fairies as more bird-ish or insect-ish, so for me, at least, it wasn't too unsettling

I like it when artists take fairy tale creatures and turn them into horrifying monsters. The way I see it, drawing these scary monsters is like taking fairy tales back to their original roots - back to the days where such stories were dark, brutal, and bloody.
*TERRIFLYING*
The unicorn one looks a lot like a legend from my country (Costa Rica). It’s called the segua and it’s supposed to be a combination of a lady’s body and a horse’s head.It hides her horse head and makes men believe it is a beautiful woman and when they are close enough she just lets them see she’s the segua but I’m not really shire what happens next. But yeah that unicorn thing looks like her!

Love the fairy, also thanks for the science lesson on a mosquito. They always scared me because (1) I hate getting a needle and mosquitos basically are a flying needle coming to inject at any time of the day (2) I stress about getting sick and overthink everything, so I worry about getting a disease from a mosquito (3) FLYING NEEDLES
fairys are also known for replacing humans children with changlings,basically either just random things they charm to LOOK like human kids so they can laugh at us like 'haha look at that human,raising a stick like a child!' ,or if they don't want to take care of their elderly or young,they make em look like babies and dump an on us to take care of.so the bug theme still fits very well since some bug mimics are known to smuggle their young into different types of bugs homes for them to take care of,bravo!👏👏👏
