I caught his performance at the Victoria Palace in April 1986, the night before the final performance and 6 months before Phantom opened. It was jaw-droppingly magical, one of the most thrilling evenings I have ever spent watching this almost superhuman performer with seemingly limitless energy. Nothing but positive vibes from start to finish.

I have wept for 32 years over the chance to audition for Hal Prince when POTO came to Broadway coz my singing teacher had given me the new London cast recording to learn Christine's part for my own vocal training. Well, I'd been in love with Michael since he was in Hello Dolly but I never realized the name Michael Crawford on the album was the same until much later. It took me ages to put two and two together on that. My first legal name is Krystal, I had a very personal connection to the book because of my name and my birth date is in the text and then all of a sudden while I was doing this vocal training for Christine's part (in late '86), not only was the Phantom "training" me also but it ended up being Michael training me via his role and once I hit Christine's highest note something happened inside me and it's hard for me to explain but that supposed girl crush I had on him early on developed into something far more.. far more 'grown up' if you will. I mean I had real actual pangs deep in my gut from the intensity of it all and then I was going to have an opportunity to go audition for Hal. I had my bus ticket and I had everything ready to go up there to Broadway in 1988. I was the same age as Christine in the story (18), and I felt such connection to her with the exception that I was a Christine that really wanted and loved Erik. I didn't want Raoul and I lost my chance to go. And I love to think that Mr. Crawford would NOT have been able to resist 18-yr old me. 😁😍💘💋 I'd also been an actress since I was young, and that canceled trip dashed all my dreams because I had no support from my family to carry on with a career. They thought it was just a hobby for me. So I stopped singing after all that grueling work, losing my voice twice in the process of learning all her notes. So never having been able to even see him LIVE, let alone meet him has also turned into a huge regret. I have truly wept and sobbed my eyes out over it. I also have depression, so that made it feel like despair at my worst moments. Not only missing my chance for the career I wanted, but THIS whole episode. I felt, Hell still feel such a sense of loss and mostly coz I never got to see him and nearly got to meet him. (SIGH!) 😞 I bet he was just lovely, wasn't he? What year was it, for the kiss? On your cheek I'm guessing? 😞😢
