  • On August 21, 2006, I was in the audience at a rare Q & A session with the one and only Michael Crawford. I didn't originally think I could attend, but I submitted a question anyway. He had a HUGE stack of cards to go through, and he happened to pick mine. I was stunned...and still am watching it now. What do you think?

An amazing man. Not just a legend of musical theatre, but all around great and good human being.

A big fan of his. He has been my special teacher in a way, his genuine character is so rare that it has taught me what he says here.

This was Michael's "I shot a couch" shirt. It was much deeper of a blue in person. This was a great weekend.

Thanks for sharing this footage! I was also taught by Ian Adam who was as wonderful and generous as Mr Crawford says here. It is great to hear him share how big a part of his success Ian was.

Thank you for sharing Jason, This answer by Michael has really helped affirm the direction and steps I'm taking to galvanize my integrity as a performer. Jason, not only is it good to have great teachers, I think it is good for performers to encourage one another, I believe there is great work in store for you. It is easy to believe that you are a dinosaur in the business.. BUT !! that "By now!" attitude will erode all you have accomplished this far. Press on! :) the best of luck to you! and God willing we will both find ourselves in the mask and cape! - Ruben

He is so right. My singing teacher was so negative that she contributed to me giving up. I was 14, and just started my lessons, I was good too, and she said that I would never make it and I would never be famous. I asked her why, and she said that I was too old, that by my age she was already singing publicly. I recently found out that Ramin Karimloo started at 21 and five years later he nailed the audition and got the part of the phantom. I sang, acted in high school plays, and played the piano. I went on to take music classes in college, but I remembered what my singing teacher said, so I second guessed my abilities, and went down another path. I am too old now and regret giving up. You need that positive push.

You are never too old. Michael performed in 'The Go-Between' in 2016 at 74 years old and still sounded beautiful. And yeah, he's had years of training (and he's Michael), but if a voice can be that good at that age, you are not too old.
