      Thank you Kevin. I’m hopefully going to be doing a similar roof to this soon. So I’m thinking about leaving the camera setup to show more of the workings. I definitely would like to gain more subscribers.

    Lovely finish and very thoughtful setting out.
    Years ago I used to try and keep those welts open using a bolster and welting pliers. Now I carry some folded over pieces of neoprene rubber 3 thicknesses thick which have the advantage over lead of staying flat ready for the next bend. I just pop them back in my lead bag with the ringshanks and halls clips

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  2 года назад

      That’s a good idea. I might have to try to get some of that. The lead ones are good. But as you say you have to keep straightening them back out.

    Always wondered about cornice details and the way to set up the welts so that they aren't beating in to position, do you use the same method for capping coping stones?

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  2 года назад +1

      Yes I would do a similar process. You just need to form all the hook welts on the flat, link them all together and then turn down the edges.

    Stu. Excellent work as always, I really enjoy watching your work and admire the consideration that you apply to the layout of the job.
    May I ask your advice please. I have a small bay window flat roof 2.3 metres wide x only 300mm deep, the existing lead was fitted 25yrs ago by the window fitters using silicone !!!! to seal flat joints in the lead sheet .The lead has now started to move so I would like to replace it before it starts to leak. I want to do the job properly. As the width is 2.3 m it will need at lest one join, with only 300mm depth front to back which would be best a wood roll or welted join. Your trusted advice would be very much appreciated. (ps I can weld)

      Wow is the lead just flat lapped and joined with mastic ?.
      I’m amazed this hasn’t let water in yet.
      I would probably put a wood roll in the middle.

      @@slbleadworks Stu. Thanks very much for your advice its very much appreciated. Yes the lead is just flat lapped join with silicone in between, hence the need to do a proper installation. Thank you again for responding. Keep up you excellent work and thank you for taking the time to video.
