I know that this song is about being on tour but I like to imagine a lonesome overworked trucker. Thank you to all the truckers that keep our supply chain moving. One of the most important and underappreciated professions.

I agree with you bro. thank you to them. the music is about sacrifices we do. most of us do them, and no one pays attention until we are needed.
same feeling I have after serving my country for 4 years. people seem to believe that I had to, or that I had to watch and do the shit I had to. Same feeling I have after 18 years working in the cleaning industry. they also think that I was meant to do it. I just went from 0 to 100 because of hard work. not everyone gets to 100. most of us, stay or die on the road. Sorry about the long reply. I just think that most people don't realise what others do for them, from cleaning a toilet to putting their life at risk in a front line. I done both. I guess cleaning was always my destiny somehow.

@@TeaInTheMorning-we2kh I was in support services for NATO in the first Iraq War and front line in Bosnia 92. Portuguese Air Force, Specialist 089140-B. my PTSD kicks in with Politicians and Race grifters. And everyone that manipulates people's perception for their personal gain. what I have witnessed, makes me say "fuck it", like the Green Barret in the film "the Deer Hunter". I don't want to be here or try to belong here anymore. I just want to fade into oblivion. I just commented because we keep on neglecting or putting down those that serve a purpose, even if not their first choice, and society looks at them, us, as we are just dust.
I was here once, I cared for something, somethings.
That was me. Someone that cared, even if others do not appreciate it.
this comment stays for the record Brother.

When I was in my early to late teens, I went through a lot of moving, from state to state. From aunt's, to parent's, to other aunt's, and shit. This song was just so easy to identity with. Everytime I'd be on a bus going somewhere else, I'd pop my headphones in, turn my mp3 player on, and just listen away. "And you don't feel much like ridding you just wish the trip was through..." feels like Bob knew me personally. Just thought I'd share that

A very, very vivid memory I have of my grandma, (maybe because it happened not long before she passed, but still....great memory to have) whenever this song would come on the radio....the instant that sax plays the very first note...I'd hear my grandma from the back seat of the truck on the way to wherever we were headed...."Is that Bob Seger!? Turn it up!" XDD And we would. This song above all others was blasted from our trucks radio...

You can't really compare this to the Metallica cover. They're the same song but still so different.. they each instill a different mood. This one is more solemn I'd say, and the other is almost angry in a way.
