Really enjoyed that. Worked at the brickworks for nearly 8 years. I was supposed to work in the offices that became the college 😂 before everything closed.
I really enjoyed that, thank you! Clearly a lot of effort goes into these videos, really like the archive footage you inserted of the old brickworks - it brings it all to life. Already looking forward to the next one!
Just got round to watching this & it was certainly enjoyable to watch! Keep up the good work on this channel & I hope you find your milk bottle again in the future!
Informative video as always! I was under the mistaken impression they were building just on the old brickworks... does mud count as brownfield development now? 😅 I was also there for demolition in 2021 - was a sombre event, for what were "just" some chimneys - we lost a lot of heritage that day. What is really funny is that they now need to build 2/3rd scale replica on the stewartby site...
The potential for a Universal theme park so close to home is really exciting. Almost every other country in west Europe has a world-class theme park to their name (France has Disneyland Paris, Germany has Europa Park, Spain has PortAventura) and we’ve been seriously falling behind.
Is the sailing club on one of the former clay pits still there? I'm curious because I learned the basics of sailing there with Brickhill Scouts back in the 70s before the parents moved back up to the northwest. Pity they did not keep one of them because as a kid it was seeing the chimneys that said I was nearly home from being dragged to Maine Road to watch City with my dad and granddad.
The variation in cadence of your voice seems very deliberate. How much thought goes into it? How many different takes do you record to get the cadence to sound "right"? Very enthusiastic and energetic.
At 15.10 when your talking about the milk bottle with your initials on there's a dismembered voice that says Ayyyyy , ive played it back several times and it def isnt you as you are speaking at the time that other voice happens.
I agree, they should repurpose and retain as much of the heritage buildings as possible (not that they had that mindset when demolishing the chimneys sadly...)
You should get yourself one of them there drone thingies so you can take aerial shots, (that's shots from above, not pictures of old TV aerials), of specific landmarks, (such as where that racecourse building was), to add a bit of context to what you're talking about.
You should do a video about the down hill of Bedford town and what went wrong i think Bedford Borough Council is going bankrupt due to the fact of how can they let the town become so dirty and simple things like traffic lights not working and many other problems ive lived in Bedford my whole life
Most of the chimneys were demolished ages ago. They demolished the last chimneys I think for a power plant. There are plenty of historical sites in Bedford and the villages nearby.
Rubbish nothing left. The chimneys had to be demolished because there was no way to preserve the integrity of the brick as it will dry out. You also didn't have to suffer the stink. Glad it's gone
It is a ghastly eyesore, I go past it on the Thameslink, then back down the other side of it on the Marston Vale line every day. It is a scar on the surrounding, very attractive landscape. It looks like an abandoned quarry, with a huge rubbish incineration plant in the centre. Roll on the roller-coasters.
Excellent video, nice work! And thank you for the shout out!
So interesting to hear about the history of an area soon to be completely covered by a theme park!!!
I enjoyed that. Nice story telling.

There is indeed still a sailing club at Stewartby Lake!

@BrickDust Thanks.

Yes good idea, I'll look into purchasing one in the near future.
When food becomes short because of extreme weather events we will need every acre of land to grow food .
Comment because algorithm go brr
Well at least none of the buildings you loved no longer exist. So bring on the park!!! 🎉

Absolutely every thing and every one in this country is bankrupt, and everyone either knows exactly why, or pretends not to.
Very sad... I would prefer a field of grass to a field full of tat
Why build anything ? Our countryside is slowly disappearing it should be left to nature
Agreed... More consumerist tat and all of the litter and waste that will be generated as ongoing byproduct
What a shame all the history of the area has disappeared to make way for a bloody theme park, wonder how long that will last…..if it’s ever built!!!!
theres nothing there, just a flat field.

Universal studios is a little bit better than your average theme park
Shame about the milk bottle. Maybe someone local to you watched your previous video, and then went and nabbed it.
We've got enough theme parks, why do they have to build over beautiful countryside? Our country is lost.
There’s a lot of countryside. And it’s just a field
The UK is brilliant at erasing history. So sad to see all the chimneys knocked down
