Thanks! Funny you should mention it....I've had this idea to make a white concrete iceberg extending through a table, but had never sorted out how to create the organically shaped opening.... so I was taking notes while watching this! :)
@@modustrial Oddly enough while I was watching this video I was thinking you could really change the sandstone rock for some GFRC. The end product definitely looks amazing - I thought it had a Japanese feel to it. I have lift similar sized sandstone sculptures and they were back breakers.
While obviously more than a piece of furniture, this is honestly the most beautiful and interesting bench I have ever seen. To call this a bench actually seems, just kinda not right. I only now wish you would apply such skill and technique to making stands for world class bonsai. Absolutely excellent work. Thank you.
You are tenacious, Brian! I just spent a couple of days, on my knees, fitting 1/4" plywood strips to a very un-level slate floor, which was all over the place, so fitting your rock top to a thick piece of hardwood is monumental!! Not being very good at sharpening chisels, of course, I'd have ripped those cantilevered wood strips in 3 pieces, mitered the angles on the center piece to fit the arch, then glued the outside edges back on, but as I said: You're tenacious! Great job, and I'm now a subscriber!
When I have bold ideas like this, I’m told it’s way more trouble than it’s worth, and sadly let them fade away. This is amazing! I don’t even know you, but am proud of your tenacity, passion, and patience. Well done. I’m subscribed.
Wow. Stunning and amazing. Not only is it a completely functional piece, it’s a joy to look at. Thank you for explaining where some of the influence of your design came from.
What a true craftsman! The time and effort poured in this project is undeniable and it turned out to be so beautiful. I love the incorporation of wood and rock. Definitely got that earthy feel to it! Incredible work! Bravo!
I'm glad I stumbled on this video - I've been feeling a bit uninspired lately in my woodworking and seeing this beautiful bench you made breathed some fresh inspiration into me. The way the arch and leg draw the eye balances the visual weight of the stone for me, and the surface of the stone looks almost like bark in the images of the final piece. And the taper of the leg, together with the movement of the arch, makes that side of the bench look just as anchored as the stone. That's my take on it anyway. Very nice bench regardless!
I have had a similar concept in my head for a while (stone as a leg) and I love what you did with the other leg. The arch and spines look amazing and are a nice contrast and compliment to the stone side. Outstanding!!
Absolutely stunning. So many different techniques and skills - what a brain and amount of time you must’ve spent over the years. Truley inspired, thank you!
How much more organic can it get , Great job , after 50 yrs in the trade I can say how much I enjoyed the build yours craftsmanship and the design. I love it when I see how the young craftsman offer such work RC
Whilst the style isn't my taste I appreciate the design, and the process you went through to make this piece. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Subscribed!
As a veteran from over the pond in the UK about to start a venture in woodworking you my good man are a ruddy inspiration and answered a question that had had me for a wee while lol the old curving of the wood haha so for that one many many thanks. Absolutely stunning work mate truly love it!! Absolute stand out piece!! Top draw mate
First off, ausome project, and you're giving me a lot of Ideas. Here's how I'd have made the hole in that top. Scan the stone with my 3d scanner to rully render the stone up in Fusion 3D. Measuring the height I want the table, I'd then mark that height on the model, then measure down the thickness of the board and mark that. I'd then slice the model off at those marks and use it to make a void in the board model. I'd then Export that model to my CNC router and mill out the void in the board. Its prety much as simple as that. But I'm also a technofile.
Hi Brian, I've watched this video several times since you posted it. It gets better each time. As a form of flattery I think I'm going to attempt something similar only with a live edge. A true inspiration and just a fantastic piece. Take care...
Hi Brian, amazing bench! I wanted to share a technique I've used before on a similar project that will get you to the final fitting point with the stone MUCH quicker. Take a length of thick solder (the kind used for soldering copper pipes) and wrap tightly to the contour of the stone at the point you want even with the top of the table. You can then carefully remove it and transfer the contour to the top of the bench. Of course, it's not going to be perfect and you'll want to start cutting a bit within the line, but it will get you pretty close without too much trial and error.
I'm not one to usually comment on these kinds of build videos (dime a dozen) but this was a well done piece! Talk about something I would love in my office, that's flat amazing looking. Well done man.
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought: There's no way you can even move that thing! It must weigh a ton! Then you hollowed out the boulder like a maniac. Genius!
There are many great makers and some unique makers but very few that are both. Thank you for sharing your creative process and detailed build. Subscribed!
In a word - WOW! Also make sure my wife doesn't see THIS video...... Great job on video production - can't give any suggestion or recommendations to improve this one.....
I think there's a couple things going on here. I appreciate both the creativity to come up with this and also the skill set to do it. its talent not many people have, even if the have a passion for it. You have some special talent, thanks for sharing that.
Thanks so much. I’m new to wood working and didn’t know how to bend wood! Real good example there! End product looks fantastic! Also “Stone & Wood” is a very popular beer in Australia! Pacific Ale is so good!
Phenomenal. I would love to see a full size standing desk. I realize that it wouldn't be movable, but its an impressive design that begs for a grandiose display!
Hey great video. I like to watch these I still get lots of ideas. I have wood projects all in and around my home, and I can always use different ideas, thank you.
Thanks Brian, it's nice to see a content provider not too busy to acknowledge their subscribers. I've just returned, (Working in the ME), to the UK after seven years away from my Garage workshop. I recently got a US made Excalibur cabinet saw, (So I can mount a Dado set). It was mounted on a Frankenstien built frame, which I have just replaces with something sturdier made from 6"x2" yellow pine and Boxwood which accommodates my router table and storage drawers. I'm mostly a small projects person, Jewellery Boxes, tool boxes etc, but I made an English Yew and Resin live edged side table last year, and you have inspired me to go full time! Your projects all look fantastic.

It belongs in a museum. I'm just in awe of your craftsmanship and creativity. Giving this a thumb up seems like too little.
From one carpenter to another great visual design and craftsmanship
Hollowing out that rock to make it lighter was awesome. Much respect for those who actually get things done. Good job and great results.
That bench is gorgeous! You should do a whole series of pieces in this style. The work on the stone was a beast but it paid off in the end.
This table is a stunning piece of art. Well done!
Thanks! Funny you should mention it....I've had this idea to make a white concrete iceberg extending through a table, but had never sorted out how to create the organically shaped opening.... so I was taking notes while watching this! :)
This looks like the elves of rivendell constructed it.
Awesome!!!! All I can say is awesome 👍👌💯

Absolutely gorgeous. Delicate and graceful but bold and solid!
Is there nothing this man can't do? Nice design & table. Nice shop too. This is no hobbyists--weekend DIYer's shop.
Very Frank Lloyd Wright, I love it! Just found your channel and couldn’t be happier. There’s a real artist in our midst

Hey Brian
Lovely balanced design. Imagine all the tables, desks and benches made in this way. To form a warm eye catching home.

That's a gorgeous table and I can appreciate how you hollowed out the stone and used felt on the bottom.

Outstanding! I kinda lack creativity, but what I love about RUclips is videos like this that give great ideas!
@@Benham_Design , well then you inspired me to exercise my creativity muscle.
