Yes. I think you can find high quality lumber in the US but you gotta be in the know. Also he has amazing tools and amazing skills which helps make it look even better. If you gave me that same lumber it would probably end up looking like I bought it at Home Depot fire sale. ;)
Hi! I'm from Poland. My grandfather was a carpenter. When I look at your work, I remember my youth time. . . Thanks for the video, your work and the reminder of old carpentry techniques... and my Grandpa... 🥲😍
The amount of Experience in his work become visible in how he handles big tools. I’m a furniture maker by trade, and seeing this guy swinging around that huge circle saw is a pleasure
It is indeed beautiful and built by a master . Please don't retire or stop making videos . Your ability and attitude to perfection is a lesson for any up and coming person wanting to work with wood . I saw a prayer above a wood work shop which read " May people who don't work with wood find something else that's just as good " I am sure you agree ? I have worked with wood all my life and envy your ability . My praise is heart felt .
I'm and English language viewer, from OR in US. I lived in Niigata ken for a couple years in the 90's. I worked for a long time as a carpenter in the US. I love to watch your work. And... I subscribed long ago.
Sometimes the simplest designs are the hardest to make because every imperfection is easier to see. This bench is flawless! You are truly skilled. Thank you for sharing
I’m always amazed at the level of skill and beauty of work displayed by the older generation of Japanese carpenters. You truly are an amazing man. I wish I had 1/16th the skill and knowledge you possess
Shoyan-son, thank you very much! I am currently in Ibaraki-Ken, Japan visiting relatives for the first time since 1987 when I was a child. I am delighted and inspired by your work and I have purchased several Japanese chisels to bring home to Canada for my own projects. Thank you for honoring us by sharing!
Emperor Shoyan! Today you asked for subscribers. Today I subscribed. I’m addicted to your content: your craftsmanship, professionalism and patience are rarely found qualities in the 21st century. I discovered your RUclips channel around last December while doing research on a variety of topics related to carpentry, hand tools and power tools. My objective is to build a range of simple, furniture with clean lines for home. The furniture must maximize space - nesting desks, tables and benches and discretely hide furniture when not in use during the day. Discovering your RUclips channel is dangerously intoxicating. A beginner like me can easily acquire a false sense of confidence after watching you. You make things look so effortless; and that’s the danger. The most talented people, regardless of profession, make the difficult look easy. Think I’ve watched virtually all of your English channel content. Can’t wait for your next video, Emperor, Shoyan! All the best from beautiful Vancouver, Canada!
@@lohikarhu734 Hello Lohi! Thanks for the comment. So, were you born in Vancouver or, did you live here for a few years? When, where and why did you move to Germany? You got me puzzled with your question. You want me to say [type], sugoi. Okay, sugoi! See ya!
hi from Dublin Ireland . its fantastic watching a master craftsman , i hope you never lose the hunger to create . blessings from the land of the setting sun .
I love how politely you asked us to subscribe. Done! I appreciate the insight into a different process that I gain from watching your videos. Thank you!
I love the beautiful ribbons of wood that Shoyan makes when he uses the ultra-sharp old style Japanese hand plane. All of his work is very well made and very beautiful.
It ´s a gem !!! beautiful job carpenter san, 👍👏👏💪💪 I hope that the day you retire, your son inherits not only the tools but also your qualities and your ingenuity to create such wonderful things. It's a pleasure to watch your videos every time.
Been amateur woodworking for a long time, and pretty accomplished. In the last few years been kind of lazy, so watching lots of videos instead of making chips😂 And I am genuinely surprised and delighted that I have never seen someone using tools like this and in this way. So happy you chose to share this!
We should Subscribe because Shoyan is a true Master and we should show our appreciation and respect for his efforts in sharing his lifetime of knowledge. Thank you Master Shoyan -Castor
It’s so wonderful to see a true carpenter I wish I can meet you one day .I have being enjoying your videos for 2 years now. I have worked in Europe and in North America and I have never seen so much workmanship into your craft. It would be an honour to meet you.
I love this bench video! I subscribed to your channel. I'm very impressed with your skills. I have a son who is currently in Osaka working as an English teacher. I live in Oregon USA. The joinery techniques of Japan, and other countries is very nice to learn, and I will be trying this wedge joinery technique soon. Thank you.
I love watching the care and attention to detail. Shoyan has the strongest looking hands when working on his projects , I guess after a lifetime of manual work. Fascinating.
Showing us the old ways incorporated with new ones and still delivering a beautiful, practical efficient ,piece of work and yes haha old house almost needs old stuff to suit it sometimes but maybe house needs a new look to suit new stuff 🤔
For some reason this has been my favourite, that it is something for your own home and it's been put off doing, not just for a few weeks but years is the most relatable thing for any craft. Already being 40 and seeing the craft and profession of your trade. You are a true master and it's very easy to see and also follow but also notice the work and skill going into it. Woodworking, Painting, Plumbing, Art... working up the energy and motivation to do these things for yourself is always a world apart from doing them as a daily profession. :)
If you retire, please don't stop making these wonderful videos.
Anyone else in the US surprised by the incredible quality of Japanese construction lumber?
At least in usa the lumber can be called lumber . U should see india
Yes. I think you can find high quality lumber in the US but you gotta be in the know. Also he has amazing tools and amazing skills which helps make it look even better. If you gave me that same lumber it would probably end up looking like I bought it at Home Depot fire sale. ;)
He didn't get that lumber from Home Depot...
@@nathanmarineau3993 no he didn't, it came from Canada or the US West Coast, Japanese have a love affair with Doug fir vertical grain...
I think the Japanese keep all their timber. No exports.
Such straight lines there really is so much beauty hidden in simplicity
