@jw77- Japan bought a lot of logs from the USA decades ago , mostly old growth douglas fir . they shipped them to japan and submerged them under water to use at a later date .
@michael- i believe the current Doug fir trees are hybrids ,not the original more slow growing trees from hundreds of years ago . the growth rings are centimeters apart as opposed to millimeters years ago . this , as you know makes for very unstable lumber even when dry . Greed is behind this fiasco
I once watched a video of a carpenter's plane competition in Japan. The winner produced a shaving that was just 6 microns thick; you could actually see through it. For comparison, a human hair is between 50 and 70 microns!
I appreciate the fact that you include things in your video like when the swallow got inside the house, your air nailer failing, and accidentally breaking the glass in the door. It makes it all feel more like real life.
What a beautiful floor, I love the knots in the wood. Also, thank you very much for taking off the protective layer when you finished the floor so we can appreciate its beauty. This adds a lot of extra work for you so I want you to know that the extra work so we can see its beauty is very appreciated, thank you
The kubikiri technique was very interesting. I see that you've planed a floorboard down by an amount that is equal to your handsaw blade thickness (kerf), and this ensures perfect fit with the floorboards...a cool trick that can be used in a variety of other contexts. Cutting the notch slightly deeper than necessary and allowing the floorboard to be pulled back to fit the prior board is also very clever. I will surely use these methods in the future.
This is why you're a true master. Truly enjoy your videos and do learn something new each time. Thank you for sharing, as always, another excellent video, cheers :)
Such excellent craftsmanship!! It is a pleasure to watch the care and respect you have for the wood....something that is sadly missing today in the quest for profit...
One of my favorite RUclips channels ... I check for new videos nearly every day! Shoyan is a consumate professional and artisan. As always beautiful work using beautiful materials. One thing: I think what he commonly calls a "tension rod" should be called a "compression rod." Happy New Year to Shoyan and family!
Beautiful finish carpentry work! I am a finish carpenter & seldom do we install solid wood flooring because everyone here thinks it needs to be a white oak or hard maple ! I installed pine floors in my custom home and they are beautiful! Plus a few scratches and dings gives character! Great work !
with the new translator function of RUclips I can watch your videos in my native language after a long time and I now understand much more of the things you do there thanks for the explanations normal
All incredible craftsmanship as usual. Your attention to detail is very impressive. I am interested in the difference in cultures, here in America at least where I live, the very last thing to be installed in a new home construction is the flooring. It is assumed that different Craftsman will come in to the house to do electrical work in plumbing and insulation so the house is left with the subfloor exposed until everything else is done and then the floor is put down. I wonder when those two methods diverged or what the reasoning is behind each method. I'm always very pleased when you post a new video because it is very relaxing and enjoyable to watch
Great work, Shoyan-san, thank you for sharing. As a carpenter myself, flooring is also a big part of my work. You are correct, it can be a hassle! I worry about you not using pads for your knees and working only in your socks- please take care of yourself! 🙇
Agreed, working in socks to complete the flooring part seems to be quite the safety issue; however, I do recognise the purpose of such so as to not damage the flooring with workboots/etc. Much respect for the level of care and quality of work displayed!
Wow is great job plus nest work without dust. Just recommend that can u fix from white to yellow text for closed caption because of background is very bright
Over here in Hawaii I have to acclimate ( sometimes for months) the hard wood for floors we install.. There can be a wildly different moisture content with home's here , it can be changing because all our wood is imported in..
Bonjour, merci pour ces vidéos votre travail est très inspirant 🙏 j’ai une question technique, les ventilations devant les portes ressortent où et comment? Merci bonne continuation
What is that beautiful little chop saw , 8" ? I am looking now at getting a smaller one, have a 10 and 12. need one to move into small jobs just like this one. Am in Canada
Hello Mr Shoyan I admire your work and it is amazing I have worked with wood in the beautifull country of Canada for some years My question is :::: How come u don't use a big nail gun which is being hit. With a hammer to drive the staples in the wood boards (stronger then the small. Nailer)) I would appreciate if u take the time for a reply Many thanks for showing your highly skilled carpentry skill
I know you're working on the actual indoor flooring, but no shoes with just socks, while shooting nails into the boards you're standing on is much braver than I would be 😂
In Australian carpentry, we say, " What's a couple of millimetres between friends" In japan, they say, "What's a couple of micrometers between friends"
The quality of construction lumber in this channel is freaking amazing
yeah it would be furniture grade anywhere else
Totally agree, and the care that goes into it. shoes off covering up boards. its just unheard of.
@jw77- Japan bought a lot of logs from the USA decades ago , mostly old growth douglas fir . they shipped them to japan and submerged them under water to use at a later date .
Yes indeed, what we have in the West is rubbish wood that has grown very very fast.
@michael- i believe the current Doug fir trees are hybrids ,not the original more slow growing trees from hundreds of years ago .

I never tire of the thin shavings when you hand plane. As always - well done!

That work on the exposed pillar is truely superb. It really shows when someone cares for the work they do.
I appreciate the fact that you include things in your video like when the swallow got inside the house, your air nailer failing, and accidentally breaking the glass in the door. It makes it all feel more like real life.
Those air vents are really pretty. I like the idea
The pillar work is just 👌
Working in socks, that's a new one 👍
Surely they're steel toe socks; OSHA would never allow that in the US 🤣🤣
i think its because the floor is unfinished and he doesn't want to get oils and dirt into the floor

Notching and cutting around that column was very satisfying. Excellent work!
Thanks for the English commentary

Love watching you build, and I learn new ways to do my self, carpenter from Sweden
Amazing 😍, as an American woodworker and carpenter I feel like a Flintstone 😜 and rightfully so 😳 I'm inspired
The knotty flooring looks great. Your meticulous detail around the posts and vents shows a seamless design.
Beautiful. You should feel proud of the quality of your work. Thank you for the video.
This is why you're a true master. Truly enjoy your videos and do learn something new each time. Thank you for sharing, as always, another excellent video, cheers :)
Very nice. Even the subfloor plywood looks excellent in quality. I think I can count 9 plies! That's about twice what we'd see in the US.
Such excellent craftsmanship!! It is a pleasure to watch the care and respect you have for the wood....something that is sadly missing today in the quest for profit...
I wish I was this good at literally anything.
Excellent work. Amazing.

The integrated wood floor vents are a brilliant detail
The attention to detail is a true mark of a craftsman. A pleasure to watch.

Shoyan san, you have amazing skills
Just an old retired stage carpenter but gosh I would have loved to be his apprentice

Looks amazing as always Shoyan-san!
I'm amazed at the building techniques
So beautiful! Makes me want to build a Japanese style house in Missouri where I live.

Beautiful work as always. I'm curious to see how you'll cover the exposed screws in the entrance piece, kamachi?
When you showed the finished floor I thought about you removing all the protective covering 😂
Looks good. Have a great Christmas
Bonjour, merci pour ces vidéos votre travail est très inspirant 🙏 j’ai une question technique, les ventilations devant les portes ressortent où et comment?

Beautiful work. Thank you
Those naughty floorboards.
Naughty Hinoki Cypress
Beautiful work.
I LOVED the precision and attention to details around the pillar! Just for curiosity: bedrooms will have tatami or will be "western like"?
The floor is gorgeous. What type of treatment or sealing would be used?
I just love the hippy jam band background music
wonderful work!
Очень красиво и профессионально работаете.
10:26 😅😅😅 I think I lived a Japanese super hero moment!! That was little bit funny to me
The floorboards you use here will be high quality in Denmark, so when you use floorboards without knots I get really envious
My back hurts just from watching this video.
That’s because you’re weak… 😅
What is that beautiful little chop saw , 8" ?

Whats the model of your saws edge guide? Looks a lot better than the crap we get with the saws in america
You said the floor looks “nice”. I disagree,it looks beautiful.👍🏴

Do you ever stain the wood a darker colour?
what size hand plane are you using for surfacing?
You are at the Very Top of your Game Mate. Excellent work and nice to work in Socks
