This is one of my favorite formats to watch. Just two world-class musicians talking about their compositional techniques and playing together without any external input. So great.

I see a lot of criticism about this album... (mostly online, everyone I talk to in person loves it..) I get where they're coming from, I personally love it...I'm a sucker for melody. Either way, no matter your opinions of it...anyone would have to admit, the themes are amazing...
I've been listening to the album from beginning to end in sequence and let me tell you, it is truly astonishing the level of genius this band has together. I think those that are not a fan of this album really don't have an appreciation for the music theory and details that DT has put into this album. It's definitely one of my favorites.
One of my absolute favorite DT albums ever!! What an amazing job they did at creating this story! Seeing it live was astonishing! 😊🤘 and James truly shined on this album, playing so many different characters and doing it so so well,
I wear headphones during sex. I tell my girlfriend it's to keep rhythm but really I'm listening to these videos. I can't get it on without hearing JP's soothing voice.

man i dont understand the hate of the album, its a great album, may be not the best of the band, but its something diferent, they just wanted to try diferent things with simple music...
The album took me some getting used to but it is really great as a complete piece of music. I don't like listening to it in parts though.

Loving this little series, kind of gives me a new appreciation for the music and the way the album was constructed, because some of these things aren't something you can necessarily figure out easily just by listening. Very cool, looking forward to the next one.
Part of the melody from The Answer is also played in Astonishing just before the obvious return of the theme (the "I always had the answer" section); it's played in the strings during Xander's line. Never noticed it until today but it's really neat how they put that in there!
Such a great album. Discovering it back year ago was such an amazing experience.

I really appreciate these videos. They give great insight into your thought processes and that is really refreshing. While it takes some of the mysticism out of song writing, it illustrates the level and complexity at which you are putting this music together. BRAVO!

"The Astonishing" brings some hope... a very inspired album.
I'm so sad these episodes didn't continue. If you have them recorded somewhere but unreleased, maybe you could bundle them with the book that is coming out soon?

Absolutely LOVE the Astonishing! My son is a guitar player and has set his sites on "being the next John Petrucci" :) We actually got him one of John's signature guitars (the majesty) and he loves it. Only issue we have is it seems to go through batteries like crazy. We change them out every week. Just wondering if this is normal?

Not sure if this has been answered, but the battery issue might stem from the guitar being left plugged in! The pickup's batteries are still engaged whenever a cable is connected to the guitar, even if the amplifier is off.

They call them motifs and themes but is it safe to say that they work as actual leitmotifs the same way Wagner used motifs for characters/objects/events?
