A tour around the new BBC London studios, 2001

- In the summer of 2001 the BBC's radio station for London and it's regional news operation moved into a new centre in Marylebone High Street.
This report by architect Maxwell Hutchinson broadcast on 28/09/2001 was the last story on the last full edition of Newsroom South East and looks at the building, the new studios and production facilities.
The Marylebone studios weren't to last long, BBC London moved out in September 2009 and the building has since been demolished.
This video was edited by a very talented video editor, I’m guessing that he’s now retired and living in Suffolk.
Great place to work! Great people and great location. I was there from 2004-2009 and the only photo I took was of the TV studio once it was all pulled apart and looked a right mess - so I enjoyed this video which was shot when it was all as fresh as a daisy... On TV. On Radio. Online... LDN.

I visited the Marylebone House site in 2012, a few years after the BBC moved out. Very surreal seeing Metro newspapers from the last day in 2009 on tables, discarded iMac G3s everywhere, and the old London news set that looked much smaller than seen on TV. Sad to hear it’s since been demolished.
Didn't they eventually just move everything to Broadcasting House and the Marylebone HS location became luxury flats?
yes at a huge loss to the bbc -they sold it for £35million (Scottish Widows bought it for that-then sold it for £95m and another buyer after them for £109m) if the BBC had kept it they;d have had that money not everyone after them
Yeah but they still have 3 studios there, but it’s mainly shops, flats and parks. 👍🏻
Can we bring back newsroom South East with Mike embley and gwenan Edwards? Rob smith and Natalie graham are the main presenters of south east today.
in a word no-BBC Elstree doesnt do news now- The whole SE Region is split SET from tunbridge wells, South today oxford, and Look east(east) for Essex plus BBC London for London-

That new "studio" for the London news was ridiculous and an insult to viewers (and poor Emily Maitlis) after axing the legend that was Newsroom South East

***** No, because Jillian Joseph says "on Monday". Also listen carefully - she says "We head back to Fiona for the national and international headlines". She's talking about the Six O'Clock News which is on Monday-Friday. Also the last FULL edition as in Weekday edition of 'Newsroom South East'. Hope this helps.

All at W1A I expect, London is, not sure about the radio side, or even if the BBC still has this building anymore.

BBC has always struggled to gain any decent audience share in London - despite many revamps of its local radio and regional TV service, name changes et cetera et cetera
Let's not forget The station that supported Jimmy Savile and kept quiet with interference of children .
As far as I know he never had anything to do with the station featured in the video (BBC London 94.9 / GLR/ BBC Radio London), nor the TV programme this appeared on
