      @@StevesSpace he's still about. He regularly speaks to my dad. I loved visiting his house as a young kid. Loads of cartoons. I think he'd just finished drawing the ' Just William ' graphics.

      The BBC remade Mapp and Lucia. But in my opinion not a patch on the LWT production.

    It’s very sad that the decision was taken to demolish LWT. Studio one in particular. Saying that I walked past the old Granada Studios in Manchester and what a state they were in. If anything needed pulling down first it was that. The old ATV / Central studios in Birmingham were left for years empty and used as a car park for Bill Clinton when they had some summit in Birmingham. Now replaced by an ugly building owned by HSBC

      Thank you for your comment. It is a sad state of affairs. I loved that iconic tower on the South Bank. Most people loved it, and all the celebrities enjoyed working there.

    Does anyone have pics of the LWT reception area in the late 70s/80s?? I'm so curious to see what it looked like back then

    • @StevesSpace

      I can’t find one. I only have a picture in my mind’s eye. Seating to the right, large main desk with security behind, small desk to right where Janette sat booking in and out films. And in the centre the lifts.

    Why did London have 2 ITV stations? I've always wondered that.

    • @Crazy1Clive
      @Crazy1Clive 5 месяцев назад +5

      It was a regulatory overhang from the old ITA (as it was then): they considered London too big for one franchise to be given the responsibility to cover it all week (as well as too profitable).

      In addition to the other answers, ITV originally had Weekday/Weekend stations in 3 regions. Granada/ABC in the North, ATV/ABC in the Midlands and Associated Rediffusion /ATV in London. After the second franchise review, the second station for weekends was done away with in the North and the Midlands, but was retained in London. The weekday franchise was awarded to Thames (a shotgun marriage of Rediffusion and ABC) and the Weekend to LWT.

      The last time I was there the building remained, but was about to be converted into apartments. Whether they tear it down such an iconic building to redevelop, remains to be seen...
