- Just another landing at JSI, made however by the last Airbus of Olympic Air, an airline which as Olympic Airlines went through DC-3s, DC-6s, MD80s, 707s, 727s, 747s, A340s and many more historical airliners. Watch this truly rare piece of airplane spotting at the Second St Maarten perform the "rare" heads-on runway 20 departure, rotating just in front of you and passing over your head!

I loved flying with Olympic Airlines. Olympic was the Cadillac of all airlines.
Used to fly on Olympic Boeing 707's nonstop from NYC (JFK) to Athens way back in the day! As a child and teen in the 60's and early 70's, those ubiquitous, workhorse 707's ushered in the jet age, and I was priveleged to have been a part of it! My dear father, who passed at age 85 two years ago used to take his family every summer to Greece, his home country. I have many fond memories. Thanks dad! I LOVE YOU, wherever you are...

Didnt knew that they only fly regional with just a handful of dashs, so sad when i saw the old stored Planes rotting in the sun in Athens :(
The old A340's have been sold (at least some of them) but at least one has been returned / denied due to being damaged beyond repair. Very sad indeed!

Well there goes another airline to go with Málev and Spanair... Great work and nice catch. Even though I haven't discoverd the world of planespotting, I will miss the day when Olympic brang there A340's over to YYZ.
Spanair and Malev went bust. Olympic did not - they slimmed down, but got bought out by Aegean. Which was the plan for a very long time already.. :)
Well good luck to the greeks. Hopfully Soylom Hungarian Airlines can refill the huge gap, that Malev left.

Olympic and Aegean have wanted to merge for a long time now. This has been denied by the EU on grounds of reduced competition in the region. Their 'play' has been to slim down OA and build up A3. Now they were able to merge since OA was not really a competitor any more..
Nice Video and by the way its an A320 not an A319. The way to tell is by the emergency exit doors. The A319 only has one the A320 has 2.
