    Use mobile one full synthetic 5w30 extended service for all my baby. I always buy my oem Toyota filter cheaply on Amazon. Your type oil is far too cheap for luxury V8 vehicles. BTW used motor oil can be great for outdoor wood preservative too.

      EastLakeWatch how much is the filter on amazon? I have a gs430 with the same engine

  • @wholeNwon
    @wholeNwon 6 лет назад +12

    Well done. Don't allow used motor oil to make contact with your skin; it is carcinogenic. Removing the filler cap will allow the oil to drain faster. I think the capacity with a new filter is something like 5.8 qts. While, as I recall, 10w30 is permitted by Toyota in hot weather, it's not recommended. Toyota oil filters are excellent and inexpensive. Some will tell you that the crush washer must be replaced with each change. Frankly I used the same one for 10 years before replacing it. Still worked well. It isn't really necessary to add oil to the filter, esp. when it's almost horizontal. IF it were installed vertically with opening upward (or a canister filter), I would.

    • @wholeNwon
      @wholeNwon 4 года назад +3

      @@aesa3628 Probably OK, but, of course, you can't know. You'd have to be able to measure main bearing wear, camshaft wear, etc. on the test engine and a control that started identical. Both would have to be started repeatedly cold and run under identical conditions. I'll trust the engineers who designed the engines.

    You should be replacing the drain plug gasket at each change regardless of how it looks. The oil filter cover and oil pan need to be cleaned a lot better (the owner won't like drips on their floor and oil residue attracts and holds road grime.

    • @projectpacer
      @projectpacer 6 лет назад +3

      I agree with gene f. Maybe a little brake cleaner or other degreaser and a more absorbant towel. The paper towels you are using smear more than clean up. Ok for checking the dip stick but not for cleaning. Also I was always told by my dad, never tighten a filter any tighter than you can with one hand. I think you were over tightening a little. I made the mistake of really cranking down on a filter a much smaller engine. I tighten so much that the gasket rolls and it leaked. I knew it when I did it :( Lastly the oil on the gasket before putting it on is not to help with removal next time it is to help seal and prevent leaks. Great vid...love the young future mechanics

    Recommended oil is 5W30. Don't want oil on top of the engine on start-up? Use the unrecommended 10W30...... Does not matter that it is summer.

    • @garvensgarage8903

      @@garvensgarage8903 I am not actually sure you know how to read oil viscosity. The first number is start up viscosity. Getting oil on top of the engine is critical from the oil pump during start up.10W30 is thicker than 5W30 at start up and will increase wear.
