      @@chrislc35 while I think a-Ha is generally pop, this song was in the ‘new wave’ era, debuting originally in ‘83, then remixed and rereleased two more times, the last in the US, and on the album Hunting High and Low. So the time is still right, but not exactly the genre. Also Duran Duran is pop too, new wave was more like New Order, or Missing Persons, Thomas Dolby and such.

    At the 1986 MTV music awards A-ha won eight out of eleven awards they were in contention for. Their video for "Take On Me" earned 6 awards out of 8 nominations: Best new artist (other nominees were Whitney Houston, Pet Shop boys, Simply red), Best concept video, Most experimental video, Best direction, Best special effects and Viewers choice. They were also nominated for Best group video and Video of the year. «Take on me» was also nominated for Best pop/rock video at the American MTV awards in 1986. 😉 Coming from Norway myself, this band are legends here. Morten Harket (lead singer) is 61 now but still looks in his 40’s and can still sing those high notes. They have so many more great songs than «Take on me».

    This is the video that pretty much made watching MTV very popular. You have no idea how groundbreaking the special affects were when this came out. And if I remember correctly, this is a European band that couldn't speak English at the time they released this song. But not 100% sure on that.

    • @snorpenbass4196
      @snorpenbass4196 2 года назад +6

      They're Norwegian, so most likely they spoke fluent English, if with an accent. Norway, Sweden and Denmark (and Finland) teach English from like, 3rd grade, throughout their entire schooling, as a main subject.

    • @ahkkariq7406
      @ahkkariq7406 2 года назад +2

      They absolutely could speak English. As mentioned, the English teachings in the Scandinavian countries have been prioritized for decades. The main songwriter (Paul Waaktaar) spent a whole year reading Penguin Classics in English when he had finished High School, waiting for the keyboard player (Magne/Mags Furuholmen) to finish, who was a year younger. Then they moved to London, and lived there for 2-3 years before the release. Paul is a perfectionist, so you can be sure the grammatical errors are included under what we might call "artistic freedom", as in the Beatles' "Love me do" - the last pointed out by the singer Morten Harket in an interview.

    En la época que buena música se acompañaba por la historia que los videos contaba.
    Excelente trabajo.

    Considered breakthrough at the time. One of the many iconic songs of the 80s. Best decade for music. The 70s as well. Thats why new artists are forever sampling songs from the 70s and 80s. They know, best music ever. 😁

    a-ha "take on me" - it's a timeless song, a song for eternity. But there are many more from a-ha, like "the living day lights" or "sun always shine on tv". I recommend alphaville - "big in japan" or "forever young" to you. 80's forever ❤

    When MTV first came out in the ‘80’s it introduced the world to non stop music videos that gave the bands and singers a whole new way and format to get people to listen to their music. A great music video then would make a song way more popular than it might of been otherwise. So bands made a big effort to produce fun and entertaining videos then.

    The artwork drawings in the video are known as "storyboard" drawings which were usually done for movies to show what the movie scenes will look like before they filmed anything - I'm sure they're not drawn by hand anymore, most likely computer animation now. I know because my husband used to work in advertising as an artist/illustrator in the 1980s to early 1990s and storyboards were also done for tv commercials and printed advertisements. Anyway, I love this song, his voice is amazing and the video brings back memories of the 80s.

      It is called rotoscoping. "Rotoscoping describes the process of manually altering film footage one frame at a time. ... The technique was originally achieved by filming scenes in live action and then projecting the film onto glass panels so an animator could trace the action in every frame, thus capturing the movement of the actors."

    This is Joe Cocker at Woodstock 1969 he was 25 years old. He always sang with so much deep soul and emotion. Watching him was an out of body experience. He passed in 2014. RIP Joe Cocker!

    You guys are great. Great reaction to an old and once very popular song. You are very kind. If you find it meaningful, then try to react to another popular European song of that era - The Captain Of Her Heart (The Double). You will not regret!
