This song represents the 80's to me.
The original upload has even over one billion views! They aren't a one hit wonder at all! They have great other stuff like Hunting high and low, The sun always shines on TV, Manhattan Skyline, The living daylights, Stay on these roads, Foot of the mountain, Velvet and Lifelines. Saw them live twice. Morten Harket can hit the high notes live. He even hosted the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996...
Pretty sure this reaction channel is based in the US, therefore A-ha would be a one hit wonder on the US charts.
I've Been Losing You is my favourite from A-Ha
The Sun Always Shines on TV hit top 20 in the US but for some reason people forget that...
Oh man I'm so jealous you were able to see them live! I'm sure they were amazing!!!
@@joannaflowers5563 saw them two times and Morten Harket solo at the Night of the proms. Every time was amazing
The Sun Always Shines on TV! Hunting High and Low!
Yes! Both of these!
Great a-ha songs from the 1980s
"The Sun Always Shines on TV" musical video is the sequel of "Take on me".
HUNTING HIGH and LOW 💖
Also "stay on these roads" and "lifelines".
Awardwinning musicvideo, the 4K version has over a billion views.
This was the start of a life long love for a-ha and Morten's voice. The soundtrack of my youth and life.
Please do Aha The Sun Always Shines On TV. It’s the follow up to this and whilst the video isn’t as impressive the song is absolutely amazing 😆
Yes, still one of the greatest videos in history. We watched it thousands of times on MTV, and it is still out of this world.
You can NEVER hear this song too much, and the video makes it so much better, plus i think we all fell in love with the lead singer after watching this💗💗😎😎
I was in my 20's when this came out in 84-85. The was especially amazing back then with vertually no computers to speak of in that time. It speaks to how well this was made to still be able to wow people today.
This album was DIVINE!!!! Everything that was awesome about 80’s. There’s an acoustic version of this they recorded recently that proves they’ve still got it!!!
The two men that were chasing the lead singer and the girl were from the race in the beginning. You didn't notice the waitress crumpling the comic book. That's when the storyline was crossed over because the comic book was crumpled and their worlds collided. This song and music video was released in late 85.
Yeah this was so far ahead of its time in 1984. I saw it on heavy rotation on MTV and this is early years in music videos... the time between 1982 and about.... 1989 were so fun because they put a lot of time and energy into this new format and the videos, a lot of them, were mini stories. I loved this time in life.
This video is actually from 1985, and has reached over 1bn views on RUclips. They released a different version of the song with a low budget video in late 1984, but it wasn't a hit. I saw them live last year and Morten Harket can still hit the high notes. You also need to check out a song from 2000 called Summer Moved On if you want to hear what his voice is capable of.doing.
The guys with wrenches that attacked them ... you have to go back to the beginning of the video he's in a race with these guys and he beats them and they get really mad about it
also their hats have 13 on them..file 13 = trash
Plus the waitress screwed up the magazine, so forcing the angry bikers into the action. Bunty smoothed the pages out again.
The comic book world became broken and dangerous when the waitress crumpled it and threw it away.
Hunting High And Low is another great video by A-ha.
He holds the Guiness world record for the longest held note sung in a song... Live no less.
I Was Born In 1980. All i can say Mom Thank You! For Having Me In The Golden Years Of The 80s. I am 42 years old in 2022!! Loving my 80s!!!!!🥳🥳👏👏👏❤❤❤
The song and video are untouchable
This is an iconic moment in history
‘One Night in Bangkok’ by Murray Head
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!
This video is one of the best videos EVER!!! And the song is TIMELESS!!! A real masterpiece!!! And A-ha have a lot of excellent songs, you got to react to "The sun always shines on tv", "I've been loosing you", "Cry wolf", "Traing on thought", "Manhattan skyline"... And today they are still great...
Thanks for reacting... as a young girl I dreamed of being drawn into the comic book. The guys who are following lost the race at the beginning of the video. The follow up is The sun always shines on tv. Cheers Suzette 🤘 💟 🇳🇱
A-ha! LOVE IT! You did it again. You picked one of my absolute favourites. And, of course, being a native Norwegian, what can I say? A-ha ... they made history. You can't imagine how big they were back in 1985, how big they still are, how big they will always be, in Norway. They put Norway on the music map. And they continued releasing albums up until 2009. Some other really good songs by them: "The Weight of the Wind", "I've Been Losing You", The Sun Always Shines on TV", "Hunting High and Low" ...
I love watching these reactions and I'm always tickled when the younger viewers note that "this is amazing for a video made in the 1980's." Well, to be fair, this kind of mix of animation and "real life" photography was old even then. Ever see Disney's "Mary Poppins"? THAT film was made in 1964 and the artists at Disney presented Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews dancing and interacting with animated characters in several scenes. Now I admit Take on Me employed the most up to date computer technology to mix the rotoscoped sketch animation with the live actors when it was made but it was an accomplished concept LONG before Take on Me was released as a video. But....it was also VERY skillfully crafted, the sketches lend a sense of motion and suspense that is tangible and it works so well with the story being told! I'm really glad you liked it. The 80's was a very special time for music and those of us who lived through it are happy to see a younger generation discovering and enjoying the same things we did way...WAY back "in the day." Cheers!
Hello Dereck ! Next time you can react to "The sun always shines on TV" which begins where this video ends. ;)
I'm so glad that i was born in 1980 and hear all those great musicians. Best era for music.
The Living Daylights (for the James Bond 007 movie of the same name)
Hunting High And Low
The Sun Always Shines On TV
More greatness from A-Ha.
You shouldn't be surprised that the video and music were so good. 80's is the peak of music and music videos... when MTV actually plays... music videos.... there were so many innovative music videos and concepts that goes along with the great music. You don't see that very much anymore, except for artists who are trying to recapture the same thing, like say, the Weekend....
If you want to hear more of his voice check out "The Sun Always Shines on TV".
Yes this one was smash hit in the 80's, everybody loved it and it was very innovative at the time. A-Ha got very famous after this and has so many hits. I love this band, very talented and good looking. Thanks for the reaction.
I’m sure someone has mentioned this but “Take on Me”was voted as the best music video of all time.
Great reaction to a great song. They are not one-hit wonders and had a string of really successful singles (at least here in the UK). Loads of synth heavy tracks that you'll love I think (particularly around the same period as this). Next one of theirs you should listen to is 'The Sun Always Shines on TV' as the video leads directly on from this one.
True. They weren't one-hit wonders, but I don't think they ever topped this song with anything else they released. I quite liked "Touchy" though. It was a good single,
but it was pure fluff, of course.
@@SpaceCattttt Well chart-wise, 'The Sun Always Shines..' did better than this one in the UK and got to No.1 (this only managed to get to No.2) but I would totally agree that Take On Me is probably the better song and is more well known. Loved a bit of 'Touchy' too!
@@RichSouthend But don't you guys consider acts to be a one hit wonder in the UK even though they had more top ten hits in the US?
@@tonyhogg9839 Europeans aren't blind for what happens in America.
"Touchy!" Is also another good and fun song with great vocals from Morten Harcket. "Manhattan Skyline" is also such a great video with interesting and surprising music
Always loved this video!!!! Still holds up after all these years☺️
Awesome reaction mate. Please react to “Stay On These Roads” by A-HA
Please, react to Scoundrel Days. It’s a “dark” synth pop song. Strong vocals
luizgomesrn Their best! A masterpiece.
You must see the unplugged version. AMAZING!!!
"take on me" is for me in the top 5 of the best contemporary songs ever composed❤🇧🇪
This song and its video are in my top 10 of all times and it's been my ring tone for over 7 years.
You should also check out the youtube documentary on this song on a-ha's official youtube channel, there is a lot of interesting facts about how this song (and the group) came about!
One of the most emblematic titles of the 80's, and the video a masterpiece👌👌
I was 13 years old when this came out and I can’t hear the song without seeing the video as well. Timeless pop art
We see the end of their story in the beginning on the clip "The Sun Always Shines On Tv". I also loves the clip "Hunting Highd And Low" of a-ha, so beautiful
Morten Harket has one of the best singing voices. Morten has an exceptional voice with quite an impressive range, a very expressive way of singing and can use his voice in many different ways. His voice reaches 5 octaves.
I was 9 years old when I fell in love with this song and with A-ha. Since that moment their music has been part of my live even now. Greetings from Spain
So clever this song & video will never age it makes you have to watch it brilliant Aha ...
5.2 million views cannot be accurate....this video is LEGENF**KINGDARY!!! and its beloved all over the world. the amount of plays and rotation on MTV & VH1 over the years ..the viewership has to be tens of millions and you certainly don't see this creativity in today's videos
3:06 - 3:24 gives me goosebumps, exceptional artistic vision and creative genius.
Hands down one of the best bands of the 80s.
One of the best videos in history. It's absolutely timeless and my favourite. Coming from an 80s baby.
Escuchando A~Ha desde el 87'.👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Great reaction my man. Yes, the video was groundbreaking at the time. I remember it was actually shown in the news at telly in Denmark. 'The sun always shines on tv' would be a good follow up to this, one of my 80ties faves.
And by the way, the guys with the wrenches were in the race at the beginning of the video. They lost to Morten and felt vindictive.
He escapes that world when she starts to cry for him and her tears fall on him, that's why he's all wet when he comes back to her 😏👍🎶🎶
It was and will always be one of the best music videos of all time!
Could quite possibly be the best combination of song and video quality ever!
Going through your reaction videos and I appreciate your sending time on music of my generation. I had to say, that when you mention that this video got 5.4 million views, remember that this number is just a small fraction of the true number of views that MTV gave to all of the videos of the 80's and 90's.
I was absolutely obsessed with Aha at this time for several years. Their first two albums are great, Morten was my first celeb crush! 😂 This was a ground breaking video at the time and I think it still holds up pretty well today. The Sun Always Shines on TV was also a massive hit. They also did the theme song for the Bond movie The Living Daylights. They’ve had a few spells of hiatus but are still making music. Thanks for the reaction!
Since 1984 all versions of this video have amassed over 1.7 BILLION views
This is a one of a kind song. What a classic! Great choice.
The ultimate 80s track! Another video of theirs 'Train of Thought' has similar visuals, very creative
Now in 2022, it has seen over 1 billion views. She's in another video. Morten can hit 5 octaves.
React A-ha - Summer moved on (Nobel Price) The amazing Morten vocals
Hunting High & Low has AMAZING vocals!
I'm so glad you got to see this! This song/video was/is one of my top ten favorites of the 80s!
Love this reaction! It actually has just past 1 billion views on the official video! Which is amazing but really deserved. When i was a teenager we looked at magazines like "jackie" and they were cartoon love stories so this is where the inspiration came from. Morten Harket also holds the world record for the longest note in " Summer moved on" i have seen them live many times and he always hits the notes and keeps the note so long any other human woukd have past out! Big fan love it!
Just one of my fave bands ever. They are still going strong, live they are impeccable, Morten can still get those high notes. Check out the MTV unplugged session they did a few years back just to see the sheer talent of him, Pål and Mags. So many great songs, check out “Stay on these roads” , “The Swing of things” “Train of thought”, “The sun always shines on TV”.......jeez there’s just too many, fantastic band
This remains the best video ever!!!!
I'm 40 years old and this is the best song that I like from the 80s
I love watching your reaction to this. I never get tired of watching and hearing this. They were my favourite growing up. Love them still.
I saw this video 1985 on MTV and since there I am a big fan of a-ha. Saw them last year and 2016 unforgettable concert.
Can you believe how we where spoiled with awesome music in our teenage years..? :)
5 million views? has well over a billion. these were world famous for years. they did this song unplugged a while ago, slower, but still has an amazing voice.
I think this is one of the best videoclip of all time! Thanks for that Dereck
Would you please do a reaction video to ABBA's 1982 song 'Under Attack'.
Great video clip! I always loved it. Very creative, fun, great music. It's a little story in 4 minutes. It grabs you like the character does with her hand and pulls you in. Completely brilliant. I have yet to see a video that clever. Groundbreaking effects too. Love it! Glad that you love it too!
1.6 billion views may 2023
Totally love the video!!!!! I watch every reaction to this song. When the reactor closes their eyes because the music is enthralling and they don't watch the video...we are all screaming at them to watch this amazing video.
I love how the drum beat changes!!!
Hope you have done some Angelina Jordan!!!
I put a spell on you black and white video age 9

We were all in love with Morten at our girl's school. Just beautiful vocally musically & visually. More A- Ha definitely available. Xx Sj from the UK. 💕
Great video to react to! I still love this video after all these years...how they go back and forth between reality and the cartoon world. Still very cool...💜
This was ahead of its time when it came out. Everyone knew this song and video.
I am a simple man... I hear "Take on Me", I press like...
Hey man! Would love for you to react to the "Take on me unplugged MTV" version. Its litterally the most beautiful song i have ever heard!
-Norwegian dude.
The fact that you are able to get what happens in the video at the same time as you hear what happens in the song, is what gets you a like from me. Great reaction video!
I was almost a teenager at this period and I remember the singer was in my dreams. He was so handsome. It was like in this video. Like a fantasme. ;)
I love your channel , all reaction about 80-90’s music is awesome!

I love this song (over 1 billion view btw) but I also loved their Unplugged version (used in Deadpool 2) - the slow version works as well!
during a 1985 award show, they sang "take on me" Live. Kenny Rogers was the host. When they were finished, Kenny Rogers said "god, that hurt my throat just listening to him". The album is great. 1 or 2 more videos like take on me. There are a lot of videos on youtube where he is singing live. For many years, he has been able to hit those high notes. Wow, super hot guy with a great voice He really made my blood boil. Damn. :-)
Warms the heart and u just can’t stop smiling kinda song🥰😍
If I would describe the 80’s and my childhood with a song than it’s a-ha with take on me
My A-ha favourites: The Swing of Things, Out of Blue Comes Green, Manhattan Skyline
Watch The Sun Always Shines On Tv by A-Ha. It’s the next single and it’s beautiful. Haunting. My favorite of theirs. Not one hit wonder. They were huge world wide. Bigger in Asia and Europe than USA.
Great choice. Some wonderful memories going with that clip.
Hunting high and low is my definitely preferred song forever of all the songs in the world.
Best reaction to this song I've seen yet!
This video was a BIG deal when it came out back when MTV was only music videos! The good old days!
That video is an all time classic. Way ahead of it's time. Great music. Great vocals. and hot damn is Morten Harket cute or what?
