AVOID! This is a piece of trash. I am a handyman, and after two hours with a helper, it was only 1/2 done. The next day, it fell apart. Give me IKEA builds ANY day.
I feel your pain (on step #1). That said - can you confirm which is DOWN side on the floor? Is it the smooth side that should face the ground? If you notice - in this instruction video - the parts listed in the begining don't even match the video part numbers....

This is a piece of garbage. Nothing fits tight, either crowned, warped, or bowed pieces. Save yourself the aggravation and do not waste your time
