Welcome back to Aurora tech channel. Today, I am going to review the Bambu Lab P1P printer. Since Bambu Lab launched its first X1 printer about 6 months ago, it has really changed the 3D printing industry quite a bit. Major manufacturers are starting to make fast printing printers, as I have reviewed several in my more recent videos, so I would say Bambu Lab is a bit of a wake-up call to all manufacturers.
As their flagship BambuLab X1 Carbon with multi-material system cost $1500, it may not be so affordable for many hobbyists, so they just launched a simplified version, the Bambu Lab P1P. It comes at a much more affordable price of $699, but as expected, when the price goes down, some features have been removed.
Let’s take a look at the hardware of this printer. It shares many of the same components as the X1. They are both CoreXY kinematic 3D printers with linear rods on the Y and Z-axis and a carbon rod on the X-axis, they have the same extruder and hotend, which can reach up to 300C, they have the same triple Z-axis lead screws and the same sturdy box frame, and this printer supports WiFi printing, or rather cloud printing as you still use the same Bambu Studio slicer that allows you to send print jobs to the cloud and print directly. If you mainly print PLA, PETG, TPU, and other low-temperature filaments, it basically works just like the X1 in terms of print speed and print quality.
However, some features have been removed. This printer doesn’t have an enclosure, the micro lidar for pressure advance calibration has also been removed, and it has no color touch screen and instead has an LCD screen. The cool plate and engineering plate have been changed to a double-sided textured PEI sheet. The built-in camera, LED light, and Auxiliary cooling fan are optional upgrades.
In this video, I will print with different materials to see how this P1P works and talk about the Pros and Cons and what I think of this printer. I would like to thank Bambu Lab for sending this machine to me, and with that, let’s get started.

💯!!
You were the only one who mentioned the layer time and how the missing fan affects the print speed. Thank you for diving into the details!
I stumbled upon your channel a few days ago and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your reviews, they are very helpful. You are incredibly thorough, articulate and wise beyond your years. I predict great things for your future.

Still one of the best 3D printer review channels out there. Concise and to the point without any sugar coating! Much appreciated!
I have watched maybe 6 reviews and this one is the best. Your video was clear, full of such great information and is straight to the point. Keep up the great work!
I have to agree with everyone, what a delightful surprise. Compared to so many sugar-rush hi speed rambling reviews to be so articulate, calm, concise and well thought out this review and several of your others have been very helpful and enjoyable. Bravo and thank you! 🧠
Finally a thorough review with complete honesty. I've watched dozens of reviews and none mentioned the cons so well. Its not a deal breaker but Im thankful this review covers some aspects to be aware of.
Thank you for the great review! Making it easily understandable for the average person. Not only that, but now I’m sold on getting the x1 after the explanation at the end. Thank you!
Wow... This has to be the single most informative and to the point video I've ever seen lmao. Great job. I had never heard of Bambu Labs, but after owning an Ender 3 Pro and an Anycubic Vyper, this seems to be the next logical step in upgrading.
Aurora Tech back again with another banger on the P1P ( just what we've been waiting for)
If you're handy with DIY, it's pretty easy to make an enclosure from rigid foam or plywood. It's not even that hard to put in a reptile heater with a sensor and heat the enclosure to the temperature you want. I ordered a P1P a couple days ago and, thanks to Aurora, I know I need to get some 99% alcohol and an Elmer's super glue stick. Thank you Aurora, I've watched you reviews for the last month as I have been deciding on a printer and your excellent reviews and advice about 3D printing have been super helpful.
Excellent video, as always. Your review is so much more comprehensive and well done compared to others on RUclips. Your future is so bright.
I received my p1p and was blown away by it, ive had enders and clones since 2018 and no printer has been this easy to get started and consistently kept up quality. its not perfect but its exactly what i wanted. I went through the included 1kg of filament in 3 days.
Any chance you've printed tiny tiny parts? I want to print 1/64 scale parts for hot wheels accessories and my s1 pro can't seem to get the first layers down consistently. And input?
Love your review and content I just came across this today. I ordered a p1p on Friday and your review covered every thing I've been looking for in a review
First off, excellent review! I suspected there would be struggles with filaments like ABS due to the lack of an enclosure but it's nice to see the proof (and that it can at least still do shorter, high-infill parts in temperature-sensitive filaments). I also honestly really like the LED screen - other than the lack of a spinning knob, it looks both stylish and functional. And the idea of being able to buy a "starter" version of the X1 and add parts to it over time is a good one - as a personal fan of budget printers that have tons of upgrade options for those who want them or who can't afford a Cadillac printer right off the bat, being able to add things like side panels, the auxiliary fan, and the like at a later date is nice.
The thing that gets me, though, is the lower maximum bed temp...I'm struggling to think of an engineering- or cost-related reason why it would be lower than the X1. Is the bed heater physically different or does the P1P use the same hardware but has additional limitations set by the firmware? If it is just a firmware tweak, why? If it's different hardware, why add complexity to your inventory and purchasing systems (multiple suppliers are never a bad idea, but at least get parts with similar performance)? Why promote the P1P as something to be upgraded when it's handcuffed right off the bat for higher-temperature filaments? I understand pretty much every other design choice when going from the X1 to the P1P but the nerfed bed temperature is a real head-scratcher for me.
Some of my X1 concerns also carry over here, with the closed-source setup for everything from nozzles to build plates to spare parts to firmware to the slicer, reliance on the cloud for slicing, and the wastefulness of the purge system for multi-color printing (I'm still quite convinced that independent extruders are the only real solution for multi-material printing). I would be interested to see if a future X2 Carbon and/or P2P were made as a large-format, multiple-extruder printer (perhaps via toolchanger than multiple independent print heads), though I can see the cost of such a printer being closer to $2500 than $1500 and it likely wouldn't solve the closed-source problem at all.
All in all, great video and if you don't post another before the end of the year, I wish you and your family a happy new year!
I have been reviewing the P1P for a week and this is the best review I have seen. Great presentation as well. Thank you. Subbed.
Clear and to the point review. Not wasting even a second. Thank you. Great Job.
This is the best P1P review I've seen! Great job, and thanks for respecting everyone's time by compacting only useful information into your review. One issue with the Lidar on the X1 is that it doesn't work with a textured plate, which is why the X1 has a smooth plate. To me this is a big negative, as the P1P can use both smooth AND textured plate, but unless the lidar option can be disabled on the X1 then you only have the smooth plate option. This is the main thing that would keep me from buying an X1, since I use textured surfaces a lot on electronics enclosure boxes because it makes text cutouts show up better on face plates. I have a P1P I use for work and was considering getting an X1 for personal use, but that lidar issue is a deal breaker unless it can be turned off to use texture plates. Most of the negatives I see on P1P are software based and could be fixed with firmware updates, so I'm hoping they listen to customer feedback and add things like single button filament loading, a reprint button at the end of a print and the ability to turn off that 8 minute long calibration at the start of every print. Adding the ability to start a print on the Bambu Handy app is also something they really need to add.
I enjoy watching your reviews. Straight to the point and full of info.
Hands down the best 3D Print review Channel on RUclips !!!!, You cover more information by the time you say , "And lets get started", then most other Reviewers do in their whole entire Video..... I am now thoroughly educated as to the pro's & con's to each different model of Printer.....Thank you for the Professional presentation......Peace & Blessings..........
I have been eagerly awaiting your review of this machine. Thank you!
Great video! I think you are the only reviewer that has pointed out the loading filament oversight. There also is no cool down option. This machine cuts out a lot more things than Bambu originally leas us to believe, and all the prerelease videos just said it was a X1 missing sides, camera, and Lidar. There is a lot more missing. Including a lot the cut out of PrusaSlicer.
Thank you for all your efforts, have really enjoyed them. Happy and prosperous New Year....
I have made this my go to review channel. All the explanations are concise, and all of the criticisms are valid and very well thought out. Every time I look up a new product I check to see if you’ve reviewed it.
You are very good! Clear, concise, informative, knowledgeable.
Excellent review. Good job.
Another reason to get the enclosure: noise. It keeps a fair amount off noise inside. BTW, even with the enclosure fully closed, it still prints PLA and PETG perfectly, even with all default settings.
Excellent review, well done. I really like that you are doing your own style and not just trying to copy everyone else.
To fix sticking issues, simply calibrating the bed to be a temperature high enough for the plastic to stick worked for me like a charm, you should try it as well
wow! thanks so much for this video! you did a ton of work for it and it is all very helpful. Keep it up and your subscribers will eventually jump up there.
Another awesome video. I'm putting my P1P through it's paces right now.
Awesome review! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and findings. Keep it up!
Good review. The only thing I would add is that Lost In Tech found low ambient temperatures _do not-_ appear to have a negative impact on ABS performance. Shutting out the drafts with an enclosure was sufficient even at near freezing temperatures.
Exactly the video we needed to see! Thank you so very much for the review! :D

Yes! I was waiting for this review to come out!
Would be interesting to print the side panels and try to seal up the top and front of your P1P for printing ABS without warping.
I really appreciate all of your excellent reviews. They have helped me a ton as I am new to 3D printing. I would love if you did a video on what you do with all of the test models you print. Do you keep them? Display them? Recycle them?

OK... you get my sub. Wonderful reviews. Headed over the the X1 review. Love my Prusa, but this is the year things get pushed forward. Exciting times for printing again!
Your reviews are excellent. Thank you for making these.
This is an excellent video, and is one of the best reviews of the P1P that I've seen.

Thanks for another great informative article video. This one definitely has me convinced to get the X1 Carbon when I have the money saved. I am going to print a lot of CF and gf products so well worth the price. Thanks again for the great information and effort you put into this. 💪
Hey Aurora Tech team, this is also my no. 1 channel on 3D printing tech. Your reviews are very thoughtful, helpful.. They save me time and help me hit the ground running. Thank you so much, Mark
P1P does come in a fancy cardboard enclosure that will let you print ABS for the side panels.
I got the X-1 Carbon and hoping to finally explore into other types of filament. But I couldn't resist getting the P1P for just PLA prints.
Just stumbled on this video and liked it for the clear and detailed presentation. You are doing s great job. Subscribed. Will be watching your other reviews. Best regards!
Very nice and detailed review. I purchased the X1C for the high temp enclosed materials, however it drove me nuts for PLA as I needed to remove the top. When Bambu announced the P1P, it was my perfect solution. The P1P screen takes some time getting used to and I wish it was larger. I don't mind the "older" style screen, hover I wish it was a rotary knob. The accessories while a nice addition and I received mine free when I preordered are not the most user-friendly installs. On point the camera. I also wish they kept the drag chain. I get reducing costs to get to a price point, however there are some head scratchers like the new connector for the hot end assembly. Still a very nice printer for the money.
I just use some printed pieces to hold the glass top open slightly and have had very little issue printing pla with my x1c!
Your reviews are awesome. It took me 10 seconds to realize
Best 3D printer review ever! Very informative.
Great Review, thank you so much, excellent professional communication skills , great job mom and dad...
Great review.
As someone who mostly print PLA, SBS, PETG and TPU this printer seems to be the one to go for. Although I can't complain about my 2 Ender 3 S1's, CR-10s and 2 Ender 2 Pro's.
The biggest reason to go for a printer like this is the speed. South Africa is having constant power outs on a daily basis, even going 12 hours a day without power. So fitting your prints into a power window is of financial importance. The cost over the years caused by print failures caused but power outs is equal to the cost of a p1p over the years.
Thank you for your in depth review, and efforts. Much appreciated. Happy New Year. May 2023 bring us more awesome reviews from ATC and you more subscribers.
resume on powerloss sounds like a feature you need.
@@padrescout When it works. My 2 Ender 3 S1's printed side by side. 1 recovered. the other, decided not to recover this time. So powerloss recovery is a hit or miss thing. It usually misses on the big prints. I was 75% through a HALO helmet..
@@padrescout I forgot to mention. If you use a buildfplate that auto release when it cools down, 4 hours without power will cool down the buildplate and release the print. That includes glass.
@@MrGerhardGrobler Yeah, sounds like you definitely do need a super fast printer. Also I'm sorry to hear about your Halo helmet print getting ruined, that sounds like a cool print and that's a bummer on the the lost time and plastic.
It's the best channel for 3d printers.
Always looking forward to your presentations. Your voice is very pleasant.
What a great review. In the market for first 3d printer and have been watching your channel and I did subscribed
Yes! The video I’ve been waiting for!
Just ordered my p1p on sale for $599. Can't wait for it to show up. I am tired of my ender 3v2 constantly failing.
Nice looking system and price point. I could see it being big competition to the PRUSA printers if it proves to be as durable. I could see pushing to get one at work to use along with our PRUSA.
Well balanced review thank you.
I went with the P1P instead of the X1 because this will be my first 3D printer and the X1 is still 40% more expensive and does not have DEX (dual extruder). I am also going to be printing primarily with PLA and TPU and likely nothing more exotic, except perhaps trying wood filament sometime. I will get to know 3D printing for a year or two then likely pre-order the X2 which will hopefully have DEX.
Thanks for the tip on changing 8 to 4 in cooling!
You are very intelligent, and always give us the best reviews in the 3D printer world, and it's because of you that I decided what printer to buy as my first 3D printer, thank you so much ☺️
Nice machine for that price When printing ABS or other materials known to warp without an enclosure, try pointing an electric ceramic heater at the print from as close as you can get it. It really helps in winter.
solution: buy p1p, which now comes with camera and LED, buy aux fan for like $30, print holder for fan, print enclosure, use phone instead of tiny lcd (I think you can do this not 100% sure but I'm hoping), buy hardened steel nozzle and gears if you really need to print carbon fiber (I think it's like $40 total) and basically the only thing you don't get at this point is the lidar which isn't a big deal. This will put you at $730 - $770 + a few printed parts and do almost the same as x1c. I was dead set on getting x1, but since it's always out of stock and x1c is like another couple hundred dollars I had to improvise lol.
I've watched a few of your videos now and i must say you have the best reviews. Subscribing
Thank you for your in-depth review.
Great job on the reviews Aurora, and was interested in the feedback on this versus the X1. Even in Australian dollars seems a good value machine.
Wow, you did a great job, thanks. No glitzy stuff, right to the point. Thanks, I hate those over-the-top "actors" on other channels. Subscribed, and liked!!
I saw this and ended up getting a p1p so yeah good review
you do a really good job. I like your information you give .
P1P is my next printer
Still the best 3d printer reviewer
That cold garage is the main fail of this test. 15 degree of Celsius is not normal working temperature by far. Otherwise it was excellent informative review. 👍
Of all the reviews you've done, the review of the bamboo labs printers really makes me want to get one. I want the x-1 pretty bad, but I can settle for this one too.
Great review.
I bought the X1C without AMS a couple of months ago. I've been mostly thrilled with it, besides the odd filament jam, and I can't say I'd recommend the P1P over the X1C; the loss of features in the P1P is just too much, especially if you plan to print ABS/ASA or other technical materials like polycarbonate. If you're already in for $700, another $500 for a fully enclosed printer, hardened steel extruder gears and hardened steel nozzle, slightly higher build plate max temp, 1080p webcam (P1P webcam is 0.5 fps, 720p) is totally worth it, imo.
@@theglowcloud2215 Heh, I was already intending to save up for the X1C, but thanks for reinforcing my choice friend.
Great review!
Great honest review . so basically a firmware update would be great for the loading of filament.
Love your reviews.
Very professional review. Thankyou
Great review and I've noticed already that the textured PEI-printplate isn't the most sticky one around. I'm using 3DLAC with very good results and it's probably just hairspray because it smells like it. I prefer the High Temperature PEI plate not included with any Bambu Lab printer. It usually doesn't need hairspray or gluestick and it has a nice smooth surface.
For textured, I find (at least for PLA) I need to raise the temp to 65. I also use a custom start G-Code from Printables that applies a -0.04mm offset on textured for more squish, and that's worked excellently for me. I suggest trying that if you're interested; the start G-Code is by thrutheframe.
@@760creations Which value I have to raise to 65? Texured is already 65 by default and cool plate is 35...
Thanks I wish I could afford the X1.
Excellent Review! love it..
Regarding the missing Load Function.. you don't need it, because the bambu works different. It is because of the Multicolor / AMS features. you purge filament on every beginning of a print. so you do technically a "load" before every print . I hope you understand my explanation 🙂
Yes, I understand what you mean, as I didn't use it with an AMS, I still need to make sure the new filament is gripped by the extruder gears, manually press the button 1-2 times to move the extruder may still require.
@@AuroraTech I know this has nothing to do with the chat above, but I couldn't find another comment from you directly.
I have the sovol sv03 printer with a build volume of 350x350x400. Is there any 3d printer that has bigger dimensions that doesn't break the bank and still has decent quality that you know of? Greats vids by the way.
Great Video 🙂 However, if you don't want to print ABS or similarly demanding materials, the P1P really is an alternative to the X1. You can save yourself the extra charge. And I also like it more when I can look at the print unobstructed from all sides.
Well Well Well a serious printer in a good price point and a extremely informative review and test. Thank You Little One and all the team. I was so taken by the title Another Atomic Bomb I had to stop everything and watch. You post in the upper left corner the filament, source cost and specs excellent means to sneak in additional information. The printer is scarry. I have had my 10S Pro so long and made upgrades too. But I am near that $999 price point for a replacement. Here we see the stripped down model PIP and you refer back to the X1 enough that it does indeed make sense to up the funding for the added features. No to negotiate with the CFO on that one. I wonder how you are able to do such a beautiful review, video and edit and remain so calm. An amazing performance. I have the Camera holder and when the tripod got knocked over the long stem broke. I printed a new one and it fits perfectly, great tool. I saw you extension very creative. The parts you print are fun realistic and do well to show capability across the filament spectrum. My last question id PETG, and CF PETG for my Model Train Parts. Some parts are operational and need strength. Is the trick to printing these Filaments the enclosure??? or more. Can an Enclosure in my 10S Pro help with the print quality and reliability or do I need to consider an upgrade to the X1 for example. All the best to you and your family, stay warm and well, little lady. Dennis in Virginia.
To be fair this printer is 700 before taxes and shipping… it’s why here in the uk I had to get the flsun v400. Also the speeder pad it comes with is a nice bonus :)
I agree, the X1 has a better price to performance relation, it would be my 1st choice. Thanks for another great review!
I wish you and your family a happy new year!
While I ordered the X1C+AMS-Combo myself, I would've gone for X1+AMS if the X1 would've been available when I ordered. Wasn't, though.
You can add sides and a top to this printer and end up with a fully enclosed printer. 1/4" hardwood board (Massonite) will do nicely for the sides, and plexiglass for the front (doors). If one is handy with tools, this should be an easy modification, and the cost won't break the bank. You'd want to add the aux cooling fan in this case. The fact that the bed won't reach 110C might exclude some brands of ABS/ASA filament, and maybe some Nylons.
BTW, I hope you will be reviewing the new Prusa M4!
Great review! I wish I saw this a few days earlier. I would have definitely ordered the X1C instead of the CR-5 Pro H, which had multiple component failure right out of the box.
yeah why does creality have such a cult following when their stuff does not seem to work?
@@theSilentCutter Not sure. I have an Ender 3 Pro that barely has 1 stock part on it still, as well as an E3V2 Neo that works great, except it had thermal runaway issues within the first 1kg of filament 😑. But the CR-5 Pro H is definitely the last Creality product I'll ever buy. I converted it to Klipper with an SKR Mini E3 in hopes of improving it, but it's a flawed printer from the factory. The super long bowden tube needs 10mm of retraction, which really kills speed and quality when trying to push it. Maybe with a direct drive it'll finally be better, but no one should have to spend $1200 on a printer that is basically useless.
@@FoulNews what do you think of prusa printers?
@@theSilentCutter Overall they seem to be pretty solid and the factory slicing profiles for Prusaslicer make setup super easy.
Good video, good printer, wise conclusion!
Great video. Professional, informative and easy to understand.
Great review. Thanks.
super merci à toi pour tes conseils ils m'ont beaucoup aidés
Thx for that video!
I am just not agreeing with the price comparisson. The glass top is around 30 and all other sides can be enclosed with selfprinted parts which wouldnt cost a lot. So you have the enclosure. The lidar wont work on a textured sheet (if you need that sheet) or dark and transparent filament and you also said its not a big deal not having it.
And we are only talking about price for the US and CAN for example. For us EU guys theres a HUGE difference. The X1C-Combo is here around 1.8k while the bambu incl ams is only 1.2k so its 600€/$ for a lidar i wouldnt need and an enclosure i can get pretty cheap myself :) Only the screen and processortime are an "issue" in my opinion :)
love both of the bamboo labs printers, just want them to design a dual head printer.
good job A.
My understanding is that the X1C ships with a hardened steel nozzle which can print abrasive filaments but the P1P ships with a steel nozzle which can't print, or isn't supposed to, print abrasive filaments. Upgrading the P1P to the hardened steel nozzle changes that😉
Another fantastic video!
