Many thanks for watching. If you enjoyed this video you might want to check out another video I did in this area - ruclips.net/video/xXrp8AflCa0/видео.html
I nearly fell off Striding Edge once, going up I moved to the left to avoid others and found my self stuck having to keep my body weight in close, I had to make a leap up to the next rock to get up onto the path again, I use to fell run this mountain it was my fave, up and down in the morning then to the pub lol
The thing I love about your videos, apart from the awesome scenery, is the fact there's no pretentious bullshit from you. You're as honest as the day is long with your ability, you don't fear making the decision to turn round or find an alternative route of the weather ain't on your side. There's no ego, and I commend you for that 🙏🏻
Lovely video Dave , you were a little quieter back then - but have blossomed into a very confident utuber now 👍👍 I wish I could do this , but I've got commitments where I live... I'm single & no children, but support my elderly mother whom I live with. Have a great day 👍 😀
Great video, love it! That's me and the girlfriend descending the headwall at 6:14 (I'm in the orange jacket)! Cracking day that was! Might bump into you one day
Great post brother, I am new to the Lake District hiking community, absolutely love it ❤ Can't wait to tackle Striding Edge next summer! Love & respect bro. 🙏
Lovely video buddy, did a night time circumnavigation of Striding and Helvellyn back in 19 during a blizzard, to say it was interesting was an understatement!
Another cracker Dave! Conditions looked utterly fantastic. Secret being that you looked well equipped for every eventuality. So many people we see just don’t seem to have a clue!
I’m making progress with my walking, but I know these places and the footage doesn’t do justice to how gnarly it is. Dave, hats off to you mate, this is like proper mountaineering to me. Obvs not the Eiger but still, I freaked out going up haystacks ffs, I pee in my pants having to do Stridling edge, let alone in those conditions. Thanks man I get a lot out of your vids, it’s helping me find a new sense of freedom.
Awesome vid. I did that y gully when I was about 18. I’m 65 now and hitting the mountains again but don’t feel quite so bullet proof🤣. Superb editing Who would give this vid a thumbs down? Go figure, as the Americans say.
Great video 👍🏻 very nice gully climb, you definitely had fantastic weather that day. Helvellyn in winter has some fantastic routes, can't wait to get back out. Take care, Jodie.
It was a wonderful day. Helvellyn is great in winter. This video was just a few days after the other one in the blizzard 🥶. How things change. Looking forward to winter already, Jodie 😁
@@TheSoloSummiteer a big difference indeed. I'm guessing these summits were just before lockdown? It could have been a good winter for mountains. I was in Scotland just before lockdown summiting Lurg Mhor, we we're planning to visit Helvellyn on our way home but couldn't make it due to the virus outbreak and working for the NHS. Had to cut our annual leave short and get back to work. Roll on next winter 😁🤞🏻
Yeah, Jodie, they were at the beginning of March. Winter was pretty much a wet washout but I took the opportunity to get out into the snow when I could. Working for the NHS must be really tough right now. Take care and stay safe - Dave
Fantastic! We love the different routes up Helvellyn, it's one of our favourite mountains. Hopefully one day we will have the equipment to do the Gulley up Castycam, we'd love to get into ice climbing. Maybe one day we will do it together. All the best.
Looked epic mate, I've not braved anywhere yet in big snow..... I've gotta say I love the music in this and a few other vids of yours, I feel like I know it or it's similar
Great well made video Dave of my fav Lake district hike, 100% going to follow your route and hopefully make my first YT vid,(hopefully !) Well done and thanks for sharing, liked &subbed.
Great video. So picturesque! Wished the video had been much longer, with more filming of the scrambling areas, both up Swirrel Edge, and showing the complete Striding Rdge coverage. It's such a challenge in warmer weather, but makes for gripping viewing in those cold conditions!
Superb video, stunning scenery. Striding Edge looked a bit "tasty" to say the least. Not been back to Helvellyn since my scouting days when our patrol leader called off the climb due to poor visibility and rain, it was a good call. Must get that done tho.
Excellent, winter was pretty much a dead loss for me due to heavy workload then the lockdown. I watching on phone but I'll watch proper on a 65 inch TV tonight. ATB.
Cheers Eddie. If you check out my other video on Helvellyn it was only a few days before, but a different world on the summit. Enjoy it on the big telly 😎 - Take care and stay safe and well 👍
@@TheSoloSummiteer Having a few hours break. It's much better watching our type of videos on a super large TV Infact it's a bit of a waste watching on a phone. Picture quality was fine just that old bane of wind noise sometimes. Great video/hike Dave. ATB.
Scots Wildcamper - definitely, Eddie. I’m sick of watching the news, it’s so sad. I’m thinking of getting a new GoPro and mic to improve the sound. Unfortunately we can’t get out now so no new videos 😕. At least will still have our health when many don’t - stay safe and well - Dave
I know what you mean Alex. Having missed all of last winter due to Covid restrictions, that feels like such a long time ago. Glad you enjoyed it tho - ATB Dave
Hi Dave..the next time you walk across Striding Edge, watch out for a memorial towards the latter part of the edge, it as a black base and a white top shaped roughly like a 50 pence piece, it was erected when a man fell to his death in the 1800 hundreds, his dog never left his side until he was found, i read this in the eastern fells book of A. W's there are a few memorials he mentions around that area.. anyways i thought you might be interested.. ATB Kenny ;-)
@@TheSoloSummiteer yea, ive seen it Dave... theres another down near the Grisdale Tarn, Wordsworth and his brother met there, its called the Brothers Parting, thats a hard one to find as its just off the beaten track..l found these out by reading A.W's Eastern fell walks. the green coloured book of his.. ;-)
Literally just starting to plan a striding edge route and thought I’d look for similar on RUclips, fantastic video!! Gained a new subscriber! If you don’t go up the gulley would a single axe suffice for remaining walk?
Thank you for your comments Max, really appreciated 👍. I’ve only done a bit of indoor ice climbing a couple of years ago, so a total amateur really (as I’m sure, you can tell) 😊
