I Love snow trekking wow A spectacular weather phenomenon on Helvellyn summit, and a sneaky route to avoid the crowds on the initial main path to Striding Edge. It was windy!
Class that Sue, a great alternative route up to striding edge, the conditions looked great, not easy in snow and ice 👏, that cloud rolling in on the summit was something else 😮👌epic hike and climb….love it , atb Mick 👍
Wow Sue that was superb! Or should I say 'Sue-perb'! Incredible natural phenomenon with the cloud coming at you like that! What a spectacle! You're brave tackling Striding Edge in the snow btw! Great video! 👏
"Wow, what an adventurous and beautiful hike! Striding Edge in the winter looks like a challenging and stunning experience. The snow-covered scenery is breathtaking and the thrill of hiking along the edge must be an unforgettable experience. I appreciate the effort it takes to undertake a winter hike like this and it's a great reminder of the beauty that can be found in the natural world. Thanks for sharing this video with us!
Wow! Thanks for those comments, really appreciate them. Yes, it’s a classic route & deservedly popular. Great to find a quieter approach with such a grand view on offer. All the best, Sue
That’s a cracking route Sue especially for that mega view of Helvellyn 🏔️🙌🙌 Great time lapse Dave 🤠👍 Epic 9:43 This was a great video Sue 🙌🏔️wow excellent 👍 Best regards Simon 🤠👍🏔️
Was up there in November this year, twisted my knee badly at swirral edge so had to turn back or call mountain rescue, was gutted 😢 went back down via sticks pass...slowly 😂weather was real bad and minus wind chill but I'd do it all again, I'll be back to finish the job soon. That clouds amazing 👍👍👍 great video!😊
@@foreverlv311 Hi! Oh no… sorry about your knee ☹️ I just hope you get to enjoy it in great conditions & you can enjoy it all the more. Thanks for the comment, really appreciate it. May your knee heal quickly 🤞
@@FIVE-FOOTLythIt's ok now thanks, I have osteoarthritis in my knees and back which made the pain worse and my best days are behind me but I'll continue to hike and climb as long as I can. I'm only 53 and it's hereditary in my family unfortunately, I was devastated when 1st diagnosed because my 1st thought was that I'll not be able to continue my passion but my physio has helped me continue. I was just unlucky that day and I'll still go up those peaks in a chair if I have to💪😂😂👍
@@foreverlv311 I understand! I too have osteoarthritis, knees, ankles, elbows, & thumbs. It took ages to get my head around it, but it’s one of those conditions which I’m sure is helped by continuing exercise. I guess we just have to find the right level! I find it comes & goes. It must be tough having it in your back too. My sympathies. Best wishes, and I hope you manage to get out as much as possible, keep your soul well fed. 🙂
Hi Sue, just boarded the ferry at Ijmuiden so I'll watch this with a beer in the bar later 🍺😃 Wow!! What fantastic conditions you got. And some good tips for less experienced folk. Mountain days like that live long in the memory eh Sue? Had a cloud tsunami like that on Arran's mountains a couple of years ago, just magical.😃
Hi Ian! Thanks for the comments 😁 I’ve seen some spectacular weather before but never quite like that, it really felt as though it was going to swallow us up! People seem to like a few tips so thought I’d oblige.. not that my demonstration was particularly elegant!! 😂😂
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting, it is very much appreciated 😊 Yes, the snow has been in scant supply this year, hoping there’s still time for more. March & April are the best months but so rare to get great winter conditions.
Oh gosh, that was steep! I even got chills haha I admire you both for taking this route!! And I have to say, those views were so worth it! Those mountains in the clouds were spectacular. And when you walked in the clouds themselves it looked like you entered a completely different realm!! Ohhh and that wave of clouds over the tops, I'm speechless!! Did I see it correct though; people on bikes in this place? This was just a breathtaking video and journey, I loved every second. And I'm also impressed that Dave managed to not loose anything hahaha you guys are great! Thanks for another great adventure!!
Thank you Frederike 🥰 Yes, there were indeed mountain bikers up there - they are in another league those guys! They were all so excited with those conditions, they were shouting with excitement. Quite a day. With best wishes as always - Sue
We were on Catstycam and Helvellyn the same day I think.....did a film but didn't capture that awesome flow of cloud....... Well done. Nice film, just LOVE Helvellyn area in winter
Hey John, thanks! It’s great to hear from someone who was there as well, wasn’t it wonderful?! 😀 I wish I’d mentioned to those mountain bikers that I was filming for RUclips. They were ecstatic! Sue
Wonderful video and thanks for the info! :) Just wanted to know how to check the weather for next week? Not sure if it will be snowcapped around dec 25th.. just want to make sure we ge the right gear
Thank you 😊 It’s more rainy than snowy right now, but I’d always take axe & crampons if you have them, the snow can appear & then disappear in just 24 hours! I use the MWIS forecast but it’s usually only accurate for one day ahead at a time. mwis.org.uk Have a lovely Christmas.

Some people do have very confident agile dogs, but personally, I wouldn’t recommend it. someone I know had a near miss with their lab on Sharp Edge, and I’ve seen others have to abandon their day out in similar situations. Love the cats 🥰

Thanks Roger 😊 The solitude was worth it 👍 you’ll know yourself how busy it can be on the honeypot summits.
So envious and you managed to leave the little terrier at home !

How much time does the daylight last?
At this time of year, in north west of England, we have around 10 hours of daylight. It increases by one hour per month from January
