    This guy is very smart. He seems to know what many doctors do not, ie slings have their place if you understand what youre doing (and why).
    I just went to several doctors for a torn rotator cuff and they both repeated the same dogma to me. Dont use a sling, at all, or it will cause frozen shoulder syndrome. However my condition was so bad that it was getting worse daily because the weight of my arm alone was causing the shoulder muscles to contract thus increasing the severity of the injury day by day. I finally ignored those doctors and put on a sling and in a few days it improved enough where I could remove the sling and actually start my rehab work.
    Beware of general practitioners many do not have any more knowledge of specific specialty areas then your average person on the street, but at least the average person will admit when they dont know something.

    After a year of pain in my none dominate shoulder I finally went to a Dr. for a diagnosis. He took ex rays and was ready to send me off to PT saying no real damage maybe minor bone spur. I felt it was a muscle/tissue issue and asked for MRI. If didn't ask wouldn't have ordered it. My MRI showed I have Rotator Cuff tear 1cm at the distal supraspinatus tendon anterior fibers. His quote was to fix would need to operation since it won't heal self since it didn't for the past year. My question is---is it too late to heal on it own if followed a treatment process. Keep in mind I'm 64yrs old and still play golf and softball. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Hoping I can still go the holistic way like @patticarey took.

    I agree certainly with the sling. It helped me when I had a torn rotator cuff. However, as an acupuncturist and Oriental medicine doctor, I included acupuncture, herbal medicine from traditional Chinese to move blood and reduce inflammation and, medical massage therapy. I had full 100% recovery after this 95% tear, plus eliminating other damage to the shoulder.

      I was just talking to my chiropractor about dry needling. I wonder how much it would help with healing a tear

    • @patticarey8415
      @patticarey8415 7 месяцев назад +2

      Michelle I would not recommend dry needling. I would recommend you work with an acupuncturist. If you want to PM I will be glad to discuss my reasons. Dry needling is nothing more than acupuncture done by people who have minimal training and will tell you it is different from acupuncture but it is not.

      Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not.
      We'd love to hear how you are doing as you progress.🙌 Please take care!

    Aren’t you at risk of developing frozen shoulder if you don’t continue to use the shoulder ? I have had a near-full thickness tear of supraspinatus for a year. But when I took a few weeks off of any strenuous activity (i.e. playing Pickleball!) i started developing frozen shoulder! Now i am dealing with trying to do range of motion exercises (thru PT) to “thaw”out my frozen shoulder problem. Any thoughts would be much appreciated

      Better do slight Physiotherapy or exercise for few mins after removing the sling . (But PT only After pain is not there in shoulder which means after many days of injury)

    Do you have to wear this sling all day long? Can you take it off sometimes?

    • @michellebowling1979
      @michellebowling1979 5 месяцев назад +1

      He says to use it as much as possible. But if you’re like sitting still you could prop your arm up on pillows or something to keep the weight off. I did a lot of sitting with mine propped up on my couch arm and was starting to do better but now I’m back to hurting all the time. 😩

    No offense, but I disagree.
    On April 2nd, I inadvertently and badly threw out my lower back. I had far too many tasks to complete and no funds for a doctor visit. Let alone a ride to see a doctor.
    The same day I continued to work because I had no choice. The back issues forced me to heavily rely on my right shoulder for lifting and carrying weight (93+ pounds) through the yard. This resulted in my tearing my rotator cuff. Which muscle? Not sure as it hurt and barely usable in any form.
    But I found that if I bore through the pain and forced my arm to move, it hurt less and less. Before I knew it, I was cutting down thick evasive vines with no pain at all. The pain only returns if I don't use the shoulder. As of now, movement has improved a great deal and it only hurts if I lean on it while sitting, or after I wake up from sleep.
