    Well this is Serbian ethno/folk song from Kosovo&Metohija region, but you misunderstood the meaning of the song. Those old songs are maybe short, but usually there are a lot of metaphor in it. This song is at least 4 or 5 centuries old, and in past it was sung on funerals, and those song on funerals were sung by women, mostly for some young who passed away.
    And about this song: young girl singing song about her beloved who died, but in song she doesnt say he died, but Janko fell asleep (Janko is common name) under the tree (under Lombardy poplar to be exact because it has specific meaning in Slavic mythology), and she is saying to his sweet, beloved, beautiful black eyes to look at her (something like adjure,beg), And about bough, she is saying how she will break golden bough (this is from Greek/Roman mythology, with golden bough you can enter the underworld...) As you can see its very sad song.
    And i like your performance very much. Greetings from Serbia...

    This song is centuries old and is a famous Serbian Folk song that’s was song at funerals. The song is about a young woman who lost her lover, named: Janko. He was laid to rest under an apple tree. She sings for his beautiful black eyes to watch over her. The song was often sung through sad times of Serbian history: wars with the Ottomans, World Wars, concentration camps, etc.

      @Radagast This song was sung by Serbs in the concentration camps run by Croatian extremists. This song along with the song “Djurdjevdan”(Ederlezi). Clearly a song of desperate and sad times of peril.

      @@worldeater1498 this song is older than those concentration camps, and it originated in the moslavina region of croatia.
      and what the hell are you even saying?? an apple tree??? it's a JABLAN, a lombardy poplar. it's literally in the name.
      and most people don't even interpret janko as dead because that isn't the intended meaning of the song.

    I think Janko is already dead, but the girl is trying to convince herself that he is just sleeping, but deep down she knows he is not. She is imploring him to wake up, hoping against hope he is not dead.

    • @RagingHeavens
      @RagingHeavens 3 года назад +4

      Janko is indeed dead. The song is rooted in pre-christian slavic beliefs that breaking off a golden branch off a certain type of tree (poplar or some kind of oak I don't know tbh), opens the way to afterlife. Basically, the girl wishes for death so she can join her lover on the other side once again. It was long used as a funeral song. There is a custom around slavic countries of women wailing on the grave at the time of funeral (some do it professionally or customary as a favor). It's kind of chilling and heartbreaking if you'd ever see it in person.

If you have any literature knowledge so that you can properly analyse the song, and some knowledge on slavic early A. D. knowledge you'll know that your statement is a true false. The one that you are claiming came from Bilogora is written in 1918 Moslavica region. It is much longer and only first line is same. Zaspo Janko pod jablanom. After which it goes. Na jablanu zlatne grane, ja otrgnem zlatnu granu. Pa je nosim kuj-kovacu. Dan on skuje zlatne kljuce, da otvorim crnu goru. Da ja vidim sto u gori
      Al u gori oganj gori. Oko ognja devet braca i deseta seka Jela... Ect. This two version defer, but have the same core. Whit that being said only conclusion can be is that this two are different translations of old slovenic(or church slovenic, not to be mixes with praslovenic) language. So no, it didn't came from Bilogora, nor Moslavica, nor Kosovo. It is a poem from slavic pagan era. All motives in the peom points on it. Get your facts and knowledge straight. Pozdrav
