I saw GW wanted $40 USD for a single assassin model the other day. Recaster had them for $12. I know which way I'd go.

@@tunabros I had no issues with any of mine. I got a few dreadnaughts and a Typhus. So a decent variety and would say on par if not better than forge world. On second thoughts, better since I’ve had issues with fw in the past but no problems with black legion
You know, I don't condone such practices, but it reminds me of an anecdote. People say videos like this should be saved by people who watched it in case it gets taken down. I obviously wouldn't do it myself, naturally.

Been buying almost exclusively recasts since last year and no one seems to be noticing as even side by side, they are virtually identical. As a custodes player it is pretty sweet being able to afford ForgeWorld models.

The only reason recasting exists is because gw a greedy af and keep jacking up the prices.
And thats assuming they even have the model in stock. For example i wanted to get some mk2 crusade armour. No plastic models in sight so off to forge world we go. Oh wait its still out of stock and has been for months.
I found a new recast store that has some great MKII models. I’m planning another review when they arrive.

Dude, I've worked with them for about 3 years and none of them are injection plastic. It's cast resin, made in a silicon or rubber mold which is why you need superglue and not plastic cement to assemble them, and why the older kits have worse mold lines from the worn mold.
Also they certainly cast from the sprue, not each piece, which is why the sprue nubs are left on when they arrive.

To be honest, this models is not the main product that we have in Russia. Nowdays it is pretty hard to get GW plastic, and, because of the situation in the world, it costs MUCH MORE then before 2022. Of course, a lot of people want to save their money, and we are not going to argue about this stuff in our local communities. I`m living in the Far East of Russia, and the main target here is to play game with friends
What sites can I find this stuff at? I don’t want to give GW my money even if it costs more. Fuck them.

@@BattleBrotherCastenjist get a 3d printer, sooo many stl out there for 40k, a mixtire of straight up copies of GW, and some proxies that are jist as nice if not better looking sculpts. It you dont want to 3d print, etsy is a great site for pre printed models or print to order. Cult3d also have a 3dprint option for files you want someone else to print

Sonwthing i heard from a guy I know who spent a good chunk of his life being the middle man between western companies and chinese production. A lot of the earliest Chinese "recasters" were not recasters at all as they had "obtained" original molds. GW tried to move production over there and failed super hard because they are GW and a bunch of the molds walked away.
My father used to do manufacturing out of China for one of his businesses. He told me that he had to purposefully over design the product, because if he didn’t the Chinese manufacturers would produce it without his permission and sell it for a tenth of the price on aliexpress
@@CarburetorThompson I am not surprised. With GWs case it was much more of a "I'm GW! here is my big swinging dick, what what" and proceeded to try and conduct business exactly as they do in England. According to the guy I was talking to who was one of their consultants/contacts/intermediaries This did not go well. They ended up alienating the manufacturers and at the time manufacturing was gangbusters in China so no one needed the work.
its funny you say that, I had mistakenly bought some chinese resin recast minis over the winter, they were old 5/6th edition squig hoppers. Things Gw, didn't offer during the cast to order relaunch line for old world.
It's worse than that it was the same factory doing it just running the machines at night 😂
Storytime. I grew up in a Southeast Asian country and one time, Bandai or another Japanese toy company decided to use my country for production of some Gundam toys. You can see that model sold in shopping centres officially for its RRP. Then, you can see that EXACT same model being used as a free giveaway gift when you buy a brand of shoes, just not packed in its official box. It didn't take long for me to figure out that the manufacturer secretly produced the toys without Bandai's permission.
There was a time when, to play in an official tournament, the rule was 50% of the model had to be official GW parts. I once played using micromachines ATSTs converted to Guard Sentinal walkers because they didn't have any out at the time. I heard not too long ago that you could get disqualified if you had anything that was 3d printed. IDK if that is true or not, but with current GW, it wouldn't surprise me.
The local RTTs and GTs have had to relax their policies on 3d prints mostly because GW is not keeping up with demand.
Most places I've gone couldn't care less about prints, scratch build or recast etc. It really is up to the TO. However some want to get in with GW and so will be more restrictive.

The last thing I read officially from GW is you can't use professional 3d parts. If you paid someone else for them, or for the STL, then you can't use it. Print/design parts for conversions yourself, no problem.

I know someone who bought miniatues from Dark miniatues for 1000$ and it was worth it. The quality is just perfect and the shipment is 100% on point. They don't speak english very well, but there were no real problems anyway.
If he would not have boght a 3D printer he would still buy stuff from them.
Dark miniatures DO NOT make individual parts. They print sprues. They send and cut the individual parts to save costs with shipping (smaller package) and reuse the sprues. They now offer the option to buy the sprues, at increased cost. They explained it on their telegram. This likely also goes for black legion market.

I know the intention was there but the constant confusion with the names just gave me a huge headache. If I was you I'd re do the video and write down on paper next to each model what site they came from, it will help you not get it wrong and it will help viewers too because it was just a massive mind fck

I used Black Legion Market to get out of print Stormcast heads, I was very satisfied with the price and shipping. They weren’t perfect but neither were any official FW models I’ve bought! Recasters do a better job supporting the history of Warhammer than GW does…
Can anyone help me find a website with the recast DKOK gorgon infantry? I found it on dark legion market but they dont sell GW anymore :/

Wartablegames has always treated me very well. Always in stock and reasonable pricing for the material.
I found that they were okay unfortunately the Krieg cast i got had good bodies but poorly casted arms. It was great for my kitbash project where i replaced the guns and arms with the kill team bits i had and they certainly are cheap so it's fair enough but not the best imo from this experience

lol they literally scammed me on my first big order (arround 200usd). they went even so far as to forge my signature upon delivery of the shipment. Luckily due to some serious telephone terror at Fedex and paypal, they refunded all of my money (despite wartablegames responding with the forged signature at first). The shipping nr at fedex did belong to a totally different person, fedex even sent the official documents to me after some serious conversation about data protection. That was the final straw i needed to convince paypal for the refund. It was a hard fought battle but a just one. Afterwards I filed the documented incident to my hobbyfriends who also ordered without delivery. Upon opening a conflict at paypal they also got refunded without any further inquirements. Paypal did not receive any further messages from wartable since.
That's who I'll use shipping is always fairly quick too just get some mold slippage and the occasional bubble and most of the time they will replace the messed up part and it's still better than most GW resin
3D printer are getting better than recast.
dont forget about thepiratescountry, they ship a little faster than the others but ive only used for a OOP dreadnought
With 3D scanners becoming pretty cheap these days you cab print as many copies as you like if you have originals
Cheap scanners are garbage at this. High quality dental scanners can work, but those are like 100,000s of dollars to buy, and thousands to rent for a single day
also screw gw, the forgeworld models ARE overpriced resin, i printed a forgefiend for $5-10 last week

Bro this is what we call a rat, way to put this out there for GW lawyers to see.
GW finds these sites constantly but because they're based overseas in countries that don't give a shit about western laws, there's not much they can really do other than take that one specific web address down. ZG has been taken down and revived at least 4 times in the past 3 years alone.
bro why are you coping so hard in public? Games Workshop has known about that website for years... no GW video is gonna advise them of such a website they already know...
@drilltime1237 If its not plastered all over RUclips, they won't bother with it. Videos like this just encourage them to go after the problem even harder. This goes for everything why we can't have $hit. It's like when someone works hard to make a cool .STL file then everybody decides to plaster their name all over RUclips and their models get taken down like who saw that coming.

putting them out of buissness will mean no more models to recast, and no more new stuff. So putting them out of buissness is the last thing id want to happen. Id rather have an overpriced plastic models than none at all.

I’ve never had issues ordering from Russia or China over the past couple years. Straight from my iPhone, no vpn required. Unless they changed it recently(~6m). Ukraine has had the best quality in my opinion, but has a more limited range, especially for OOP recasts.

from what ive seen all 3 of these sites have some old models, obviously not all of them, but you can get very old marines for example.
Are this in plastic like you can use plastic cement? Iv only had resin ones before
its made from casting resin, so basically only CA glue just like 3d printing resin and original forge world stuff
Anything that is representative, fits the army and costs less than GW is worth it.
When I got into the hobby at first, I did my own recast of several helmets without even knowing that was a thing others did lol
I just had some leftover silicone to make a mould from and some two part epoxy. I have gotten into 3D printing last year as well.
I still get official GW miniatures, but only from ebay. I love the franchise but I will absolutely NOT spend 50€ on ten minis when I can print 60 for 30€.

knowing how much it actually costs GW to make these, and how much they actually sell them for, I have no issue using 3d printing and recasters. If GW didn't try to cash gouge their customers so badly, people wouldn't seek out more reasonable alternatives.

Why would people go with recast over getting 3d printed ones where you don't get these issues? Like I'm printing a imperial knights army, costs me $3aud to print 2 full armigers with both help and warglaive weapons in about 2h20m.
Because recasters sell 1 to 1 gw models from countries that gw can't do nothing about it whereas for 3d prints they contact the website and have it taken down, even when it's not a 1 to 1 copy...
And not everybody has the space for a printer or they want 1 to 1 models and not inspired by gw models.
@@spuriusligustinus4509 plus some people want to buy models they never were able to, whether they weren't in the hobby at the time, didn't have the money or didn't have access to them. Why would I want to buy a fake stl of a chaplain dreadnought when I can buy the chaplain dreadnought recast.

As someone who can safely safe they have purchased basically a forge world army, I would say maybe. There is obviously a lot of risk when purchasing from a illegitimate sight. Yes it is cheaper and are basically the same quality as Warhammer(old FW). Cons are the legitimacy and the wait time for the products to arrive due to them having to made to order and also shipping. I did it as the cost outweighed the ludicrous price to start an army that FW+Warhammer push these days. I also this this is why people start 3D printing because of you really think about it, the prices are ludicrous and almost insanity.
The price GW has for its plastic minis is insane I can get a bandai kit with over twice the amount of plastic for less than half the cost and it has also been engineered to be articulated

Keep in mind that some of the best recasters are 100% private circles where you often need to have someone trustworthy to give you access to their service. This is because unless they are in countries such as China that have little care for IP laws, Games workshop (And 100% rightfully so) will hunt them.

Actually, those would be the 3D scanners who do incredibly clean scans of GW stuff for 3d printing. Their an incredibly reclusive circle of people who pretty much have some amazing DIY scanners. If GW got a whiff of what these guys were doing, they would legit hunt them down because the quality is unreal for the most part and a legitimate threat to their business, no joke. Iv seen one guy scan some Astartes models and youd swear they were the source files directly from GW's design team, their THAT clean.
Imagine 3d printing the complete FW Elysian range, or a complete range of either Praetorians, Cadians, Tallarns, or Mordians. Those guys are the real threat to GW, but like I said, their incredibly reclusive and extremely closed to outsiders.
You can find some good casters if you dig a bit in google, but with scanners, you need to know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy to get in.
"rightfully so" no, not rightfully. Sure they own the ip, but having such predatory buissness tactics that just hurt an average consumer, which is what feeds them in the first place, is not "right". That's why i condone recasters. They sell models for an acceptable price. If thats how gws prices would look rn, i wouldnt be even thinking of recasts.

Honestly, you can often not even tell the difference. And there are the metal ones for the long time gone miniatures of the 90's as well.

The prices for all 3 of these after shipping are more expensive then just buying retail GW. Much cheaper long term to just buy a 3D printer.
No that is is not even close to true. You can get any Forgeworld model recast for 20% of the cost and shipping from FW is just as expensive. And as long as you buy more than 1 thing at a time the shipping is not a factor at all.

Seriously you’re whingeing over nothing. Obviously it’s for the best that GW doesn’t see this but like as the consumers of their products it’s good for us to know that we aren’t pigeon holed. Not everyone knows about these sites and having the information out there so more people are looking is better than having an “ol boys club.” It’s a sad mentality that you’d prefer to keep your goodies to yourself than uplift and assist your brothers. Plus if a few sites go down temporarily it means nothing there’s clearly always going to be more and they’ll come back because GW doesn’t have the control they think they do/ want to.

Honestly, the second GW went woke, i havent spent a single dime on them. I think most 3D proxy models look better anyway. At least the female models look like actual attractive women. As far as recast goes, i think for the average person, no one will be able to tell.

There is no benefit to buying recasts from people stealing other company's intellectual properties. If you do this, you are stealing by proxy, and I hope your local hobby store bans you for being a cheater. Personally, I refuse to play against someone with recasts, in a tournament, I will report them and have them disqualified.
