    The hosts took the second guy's tactic more humorously but what he said is all the truth!! Self defense isn't just about learning a lot of fight moves and how to throw a few jabs like you see in the movies, the best thing you can do is LITERALLY avoid the situation in the first place and just move out of the way instead of going straight into the fight! It IS called self defence, so you defend yourself before offending! Offense should be the last and final option during such a situation!

    • @benheath2097
      @benheath2097 4 года назад +22

      Really? I thought she was an amateur at first. I found it strange that she was going for palm strikes instead of just regular punching, especially for beginners. The 2nd guy seemed to know what he was talking about.

    • @RHIrene
      @RHIrene 4 года назад +21

      @@benheath2097 It could be a way to throw them off. i thought it was a smart move over punches since you could easily hurt your hands/arms if you don't do them correctly.

    • @alexisa1378
      @alexisa1378 4 года назад +29

      Honestly there was a lot that gave all of them away imo lol. The girl was clearly comfortable with students, and she knew how to teach what's realistic for beginners. I'm not surprised she taught palm strikes, punching is actually more difficult and dangerous for beginners to get right, you run the risk of breaking your own fingers if you do it wrong. The fact that she brought her own professional equipment to use also gave it away that she knew what she was doing.
      As soon as the fraud guy listed his "action steps", I knew he was the fraud. Negotiation is always the first step, not the fourth (and it certainly doesn't come after Escape. Why would you turn around and talk to them again if you've already left the scene?)
      The last guy could've passed as an expert, but the techniques he showed were way too advanced for beginners. His moves were pretty, but they didn't have a lot of substance to them, which makes sense after knowing that he's a stunt guy. Also this is a very small detail, but if you watch him fall, he catches himself with his hand every time--not a good idea, unless you're trying to snap your wrist in the middle of the fight lol.
      tl;dr it was fun playing along with them, and at least for this episode I think it was pretty easy to tell who was who (but this is also coming from someone that trained Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for 2+ years so maybe it's just me lol)

      That’s not what most people got to self defence classes for though. Most people that attack you on the streets aren’t going to be black belts, they’re going to be scrappy fighters at most who are fixated on accomplishing their agenda. They’re not going to expect a girl like me to know how to kick their ass, because they’re looking for an easy target that they can subdue.
      Also, most big guys have strength and power, but I have agility and endurance on my side. The odds are more even than you think.

Unfortunately unlike anime and bruce lee movies, you're not gonna win a lot of fights on the back of your agility and endurance so the best thing to do against a bigger person is to try and walk away from the fight.

    As someone who did Taekwondo for almost 7 years, was an instructor for half of this time, and competed at national levels, these are my guesses
    Expert - Instructor #1
    Amateur - Instructor #3
    Fraud - Instructor #2
    In#1 had really good postures especially when holding the bag. You could tell she instinctively knew how to protect herself/joints when holding the bag too. She didn’t hesitate in her session and had a dynamic/energy similar to how I was taught to be when teaching young children to be engaged.
    In#2 knew the basics of what self defense means and how fighting is a last resort. He didn’t really teach self defense tactics and went more towards avoiding and such. He may have some sort of background in contact sports, but his information is something one could quickly pick off of the internet.
    In#3 seemed as though he knew some legitimate self defense tactics, some of which were exactly what I learned when in TKD. That’s why I thought he had some background. However, he looked like he was relying on a class he had just taken, and didn’t seem overly familiar or confident in what he was teaching. He had fairly good stances and taught pretty well, but overall, it kind of looked like what my more in tune students would teach to others.
    EDIT: Instructor #3 also showed some other signed of being an Ameritech such as having one of his hands down when kicking, and landing on an open hand. Two things you learn as you go. Experts would have these down.

When I heard the second one say "negotiation" it was obvious that he was a fraud. If a guy tells you to give him your money, you do it, no argument. • @Elmy_Kiu
      @Elmy_Kiu 4 года назад +1

      True. And tbh, I think it's weird to teach a kick catch to beginners. If someone kicks in a fight, they're either someone with 10 IQ or a trained dude who'd easily whoop your ass.

    • @IssaMeZane
      @IssaMeZane 4 года назад

      Mr. Pepe It’s called fight IQ and no that is how you catch a kick and there are also tons more to catch but it is good you just have to move your body to the right more when the kick is coming when you catch it so you don’t take the entire energy of the kick... I do karate and have been for 5 years and also Muay Thai. But in Australia and our style is Kumiai Ryu (which is only in Australia and has been for 30 years) Our style takes all other martial art styles and puts it into one and makes it realistic.

    The moment Sweet P said size doesn't matter, I knew he wasn't an expert. Size is very important because you base your strategies on your size. For example, a small person is more likely to get away, maintaining distance, dodging focusing on their superior mobility and with fast strikes, while a larger person will be easily able to throw, grapple and overwhelm the enemy with a few powerful strikes.

      Of course size matters, to a degree. If you clearly out skill your opponent even if he has a lot of pounds on you, you will win. On even skills, the bigger person wins. It's harder, or even not possible to move him or wrestle that person, the bigger man hits harder too. I got two personal experiences, I was an MMA fighter in the 145 division, I trained in a small gym where most of the advanced guys where heavyweights or LHW. Two of my training partners had about 60 pounds on me. One of them was even or slightly better skilled than me, the other was not even close to my skill level. I would mop the floor with the less skilled using judo then fast jiujitsu on the ground and win every time. The other guy would outstrike me on the feet and be an unmovable object on the ground, even if I had a clear armbar he would just overpower me, if I had top control he would easily get me off of him, etc... Size matters in MMA, boxing, etc... that's why we have weight divisions.

    • @derekthehalfabee7942
      @derekthehalfabee7942 4 года назад +1

      Yea, size matters immensely. Sparring is not the same as a real fight. A 100lb pound person hitting a 250lb person and vice versa may score equal points in a match but will have vastly different outcomes in a real fight. Even trained, a small fighter will have a hard time hurting a larger fighter. In the UFC, 50% of Heavyweight fights end in knockout. Only 26% of lightweight fights end in knockout. The lighter the fighters, the less power, the less knockouts. The same applies to Womens UFC. And that is against equal sized fighters with a referee. Larger people can also take more punishment.

    Ok, so I just saw a comment with many replies, arguing about whether size matters in a fight. It depends. If you are fighting someone that might be taller, but lankier, if you get in close, you will probably win in the fight. With all around bigger people, technique, endurance, and agility will matter more. And this next part goes with all fights in general: know where an effective place to hit is. If they are bigger and fatter, don’t try to go for the gut, go for the more vulnerable and less padded areas, like the legs.

    People say they need guns if they get robbed but:
    1. That's gonna make you responsible for injuries or death.
    2. Self defence is centered around not hurting them but protecting
    Yourself.
    3. You can take your self defence skills anywhere and the enemy can't use it against you.
    4. If they have a gun, as shown in the video self defence can stop a gun.
    5. If both of you have a gun, you're more likely to get shot since they see you as a threat. They might also still shoot you once you shoot them, but self defence completely disables them.
