I only discovered this channel a few months ago but I must say I love the approach, pacing, tone and in short professional way the reviews are carried out. And also entertaining.
I think the price should be even lower. For 20k you already get couple of years old Peugeut e-2008 or Nissan Leaf for example. But if the car really needs to be a new one and you have only 20k then its the only option at this moment
The comparison should never be between a used and a new car. With that logic, I shouldn't get a new Yaris because I can get a used Audi for the same price.
@@carlosrivera3260 Depends on the age and km you're comparing with. You can't compare a 5 year old car with 200k km with a new car, obviously. But a 1 year old with under 50k km? Not that far from being new. From there you can adjust and calculate the risk/advantages as you want for your personal needs/wants.
Why would a 1 year old car be on sale, what's wrong with it? And it's lost a year of warranty, smells of previous owners bum and won't qualify for low APR. 😂
I really wonder if they actually implemented battery cooling / heating this time, but it does look much better than previous version, especially inside.
I’ve said it in other reviews about this vehicle and will say it here again: this thin foil soap box produced in China is a big No No for european market considering safety standards and the fact that EU states are supporting chineze economy directly(with green governmental programs for EVs).
It will still be safety tested and Chinese products can be good quality if you supervise them a little. Plenty of chinese EVs in the EU market already.
Cuz the Chinese state offers money for Ev cars. Last year.in Romania the Government offers tickets of 10k euro for every new ev car, so we bought spring with 7k basically😂
@@brb4903 Personally, only with a 10 year credit! And for what? A cheap platform developed for emerging markets with useless ev range! Give me a break!!!
THIS is what we need, not massive and heavy suvs, we need small affordable electric cars like this or the citroen ec3, really hope we get more like these
@Darx97: Yeah, too bad EV's are not the future, just pure marketing, and also, too bad that cheap cars are all bad cars. All cars for the masses have many problems and are of bad quality, from Opel, Ford, Renault, Mazda, Seat, Skoda etc. They are all very crappy cars. They were good 20 years ago, but not today in 2024. People should wake up a bit more.
@@legioner9 saying that cheap cars are "all bad" and that people should "wake up" for wanting them was a very effective way to throw out your credibility straight through the window. Congratulations! The Dacia Sandero is an example of a cheap car that is decently reliable and cheap to run and this is enough for a huge swath of people. Arguing anytime else is just plain stupid.
That’s the only positive thing I saw in the car… For the rest, it’s underpowered, tiny battery, acceleration from 40 years ago and poor NCAP security. Isn’t possible to do better for an affordable price?
@@paulosmr8160 Apparently, no. Dacia is the master of quality over price paid, so you only have chinese alternatives, or paying at least 10k more for not driving that carefully.
20000 EUR for this Death Car? I am ashamed Renault launched this under the Dacia name... Sandero, Duster, Lodgy or even Jogger are great value from the Dacia brand. Can you compare this Spring to the eC3? They are both pricewise very close... but eC3 is not a Death Car like Spring is...
Great car what we need more of in this over priced car world. Why people drive over priced tech laden speed tanks around in a city when they only average 10 mph has always baffled me, if i had to live in a city this is what i would buy. Great review as ever Thomas👍👍
@@dauerwerbesendung7045 yeah, the Citroen is bigger, much faster (111hp) instead of the miserable 45hp or 65hp of the Dacia, has a much bigger battery (44kWh), can go quite a bit further (320km/199miles) and looks better (in my opinion)
Good review or perhaps preview since there was no driving. Sometimes it is worth being brought down to earth on what is essential and not in a car, and this does it. The UK price was suggested as starting for the mid range trim at about £15k. If you fill up every night or at work a range with a radius of 40 miles or so is not a problem not just for city drivers but for many country ones who do most of their mileage locally. In a small country like the UK this covers a lot of use cases. There is a lot to admire about this car, though I hope I never have to drive one….
A lot of the bad decisions on the inside are fixed, it actually looks nice now for such a cheap car and stuff like LED lights and V2X on such a cheap car are fantastic (cough cough VW). Maybe it can have heated seats now so it can come to the nordics officially?
I think sales have spoken for the Dacia Spring. Many people just don’t care about non essential premium features. They want something basic. Ask Dacia Spring owners. They just live their car.
Affordable, but... here we go again. 20k EUR is too much for the "car" that basically cannot go outside of the city and getting cheaper extremely fast because of the battery degradation. I would say about 10k would be just right price for it, no more than that.
Will it last? - The days of treating cars, and all other manufactured objects, as throwaway products needs to come to an end. To me, it is important to make cars that last longer and that people want to keep for 25 to 50 years. Building cars is very energy demanding. Safe, desirable cars with a long use lifespan would go a long way toward reducing pollution.
Still a Dongfeng E1 platform, that costs 8000$ in China. Renault think Europeans are naive and will pay for that 20000 eur, only because they changed the badge and did a face lift. Really?
Here's the dilemma. Do you go for a New Dacia Spring or a Renault Zoe from 2020 and 30k km for EUR 14 000? It is always great to have more affordable EVs for the city and I like the back to the basics approach from Dacia, but where do you draw the line? Thanks for mentioning the safety aspect Thomas. You're insightful as always.
This is a city car and most of its owners use it as such, which means they drive less than 30 miles every day and at an average speed of 25 mph. The yearly savings on fuel will offset the price premium over a period of 5 years.
Let's wait for NCAP crash test, because of, current Spring is very dangerous car(see NCAP test result of body damage). Spring is made in China, it is not Dacia from Romania. It is good to realize that by buying Chinese cars I am also supporting bad things such as: 1. Non-ecological production (electricity from coal, no ecological production standards, no controls on plastics for biphenyls, lead additives, etc.) 2. Bad working conditions 9-9-6 (from 9am to 9 pm, from Mo to Sa!), subcontractors may also be exploiting slave labor of Uighurs 3. Chinese EVs are cheaper due to government support and non-ecological production, which threatens European manufacturers, without whom we can hardly imagine European prosperity.
NOT cheap! Is severely overpriced, double or triple the price of the actual retail price in china. This car is DongFeng Nano Box and is sold for 6-8000 euro in china to customers there But the ruropean customers are forced to pay a lot more for this 1* crash test coffin on wheels. The small facelift doesn't bring anything worthy to the customers. Dacia Spring (Dongfeng Nanobox / renault kze) uses a crap EV platform, borderline usable. For the asking price to be fair Dacia Spring should be giving 50kwh battery net and 150hp dual motor setup with android 7inch screen leather, panoramic and native internet connectivity using a sim card slot.
Is how a city car should be. But than we can’t show off, as today world is all about showing off , so we need a big SUV that doesn’t even have space in the city car parks
That backend is the ugliest thing ive ever seen🤮 Dacia got better in the last years design wise but with this new model they got the crown back, not even Indian manufacturers can produce such a vomit inducing car😂
It’s such a cute car, looks good too! Thanks for the detailed review, I always turn to your channel if I’m interested in a car as I know it will be good!
Except for the size being unusable for northern Europeans, I'm actually positively surprised. Also manual window cranks are really all that's needed, can't remember when last anyone put the rear windows down in my car.
Well , Chinas BYD is introducing their EV priced at £8000 here in UK soon. It's going to take another 5 to 7 years for the EV infrastructure here in UK to be stable/reliable/working. The price of charging is currently more compared to the price of diesel/petrol (feedback from 2 EV taxi owners). So makes absolutely no sense to buy an EV for the foreseeable future.
Dacia makes crappy cars. Starting with Logan 3 and the new Duster, they all have all sorts of problems, from window seals which tear in the 1st year, to engine problems. And the EV's range is not even 300 km at the most. Just keep your money away from these moneytraps. Renault builds some very bad cars and truly unreliable.
Missing the price... for 20k eur it's ok I guess. My only true concern : safety. But very soon the BYD seagull is there, and the Spring loses all interest

So it is just like that to all cars!
@@haukionkannelso what?! They wont get my money...its just highway robbery!!
many compliments for the very complete review! Any information available on the width (with/without mirrors) ? Thanks and compliments again
I do like your reviews in English , SO better than most British reviewers.
Thank you so much! Please recommend / share our channel 🙏
Very nice. Much more competitive than the old model. However I’d pay a bit more for a Citroën e-C3
I'd take the Zoe any day. I've driven quite a few of them (car sharing) in the city. Quality is decent and it has plenty of city-punch.
I'd wait for the electric Hyundai Casper instead of the Spring and it looks like it might be even cheaper to buy.
It’s nice when you can wait. Most people buy because they need to.
@@sbomorsethat car will not start from 15500
Zoe, 0 star NCAP under the same regime the Spring got a 1, and that's not just because of the removed airbag. No warranty either.
If the turn indicator still can't click rhythmically then I'm not buying. It sounded like a broken toy.
125miles is way to low as that would be realworld of under 100 even for the price. EVs should be a minimum real world 150 miles
This is why the production might move to Romania
NOT cheap! Is severely overpriced, double or triple the price of the actual retail price in china.
This car is DongFeng Nano Box and is sold for 6-8000 euro in china to customers there
But the ruropean customers are forced to pay a lot more for this 1* crash test coffin on wheels.
That backend is the ugliest thing ive ever seen🤮
Dacia got better in the last years design wise but with this new model they got the crown back, not even Indian manufacturers can produce such a vomit inducing car😂
An interesting EV built to a budget price. Probably going to be popular.
This is a small car from 25 years ago (think Punto, Saxo, Clio)... I love it
Could be a winner.
The first one was really hard to justify. This time at least the looks are decent.
80 horsepower + 40kWh battery would be perfect
In Ireland we drive on the left as well. Not just the UK.
Wow, I really didn't know that. Thanks
I wonder why

Good news! New Dacia 👏
Not sure this is.......Good News!!! 🤔 or not. Its not james May approved .......yet
5 hours later Thomas is still winding down the back windows
When the cheap electric has one of the best controls...
Nice car. But the term ''City EV'' or especially ''City SUV'' always make me laugh. Because cars don't belong in city centers actually.
Still fast enough to break the speed limit in Wales!
It’s such a cute car, looks good too! Thanks for the detailed review, I always turn to your channel if I’m interested in a car as I know it will be good!
Highly appreciated! Please recommend our channel!
Nice alternative option. Here in Brazil we've almost the same car, but its name is Renault Kwid and it isn't an eletric one.
Nice video Thomas!
This car looks so pedestrian and is made out of newspaper but it comes with a warranty and that’s what matters. I want one.
0 ncap crash ⭐️
so no thanks.
just shows that legacy just don‘t care about people. 😢
1 star. 0 star was Zoe.
RHD, For your Irish friends too
For sure 🇮🇪
Except for the size being unusable for northern Europeans, I'm actually positively surprised. Also manual window cranks are really all that's needed, can't remember when last anyone put the rear windows down in my car.
Love the manual windows
Surprisingly you haven't done a review for the Renault Austral .Are you going to do one ?
Well , Chinas BYD is introducing their EV priced at £8000 here in UK soon. It's going to take another 5 to 7 years for the EV infrastructure here in UK to be stable/reliable/working. The price of charging is currently more compared to the price of diesel/petrol (feedback from 2 EV taxi owners). So makes absolutely no sense to buy an EV for the foreseeable future.
Model X killer.
Its much to expensive for its range. Above 20k you should get 450km of range. My 17 year old suzuki almost 600km range.
I don't like that you used the tearm REVIEW. It is more of a FIRST IMPRESSIONS. Specially because there was not even any driving
I couldn’t stop laughing for cheapness and low charging speed.
If Nissan Sakura or BYD Dolphin could be sold in Europe, they would be a better choice.
The Chinese EV starts to kill European manufacturers, for this price 20K Euro Chinese EV more comfortable and more technology superiority
Cracking little car
New old dacia spring saddddd.
Thomas, you are great as usual. But this electric crap will never bit a 10-15 year old diesel, including maintenance etc.Only idiots will buy it.
Missing the price... for 20k eur it's ok I guess. My only true concern : safety. But very soon the BYD seagull is there, and the Spring loses all interest
Not in a million years. Cheap EV is like double lose situation.
I would rather buy combustion MG ZS or HS instead.
The affordable city car has arrived its low tech and v2l is fantastic.
You're going to be rubbing shoulders with your passenger in this car. It's comically tiny.
I'll have to wait and see the ncap results.
They wont change, bad results
Why is it cheap? It's 20k Euros. Way too expensive for a car that gives only 200 km range.
