    This video will show you exactly how your button-up shirts (a.k.a., button downs or dress shirts) should fit. The button up shirt, including the dress shirt, is one of the most important pieces in any man’s wardrobe.
    But, just like with any other piece of clothing, if your shirts don’t fit properly, they’re not going to do you any favors. You want to make sure your clothes are working for you, not against you. To that end, this guide will teach you exactly how a button down should fit.

    Thank you for these videos. I'm currently working on a healthy lifestyle, and so far I've lost about 40 pounds ( 6'4" and my starting weight was 330 pounds, down to 290 pounds). Most of my clothes are getting very baggy, and I'm going to need a completely new wardrobe. Just wanted to say thanks for all of your great tips!

    I buy the slim-fit shirts from H&M and the oxford shirts at Old Navy. The H&M ones are a bit tight in the midsection, and they're tight in the forearms when you roll up your sleeves... and I have some pretty girly-man forearms. The Old Navy ones have more room and a nice stretchy material, but these are oxford shirts, and some people might not like them.

    I always tuck, I never waste a chance to show off a nice belt. I found a modern slim fit works for me even though I have a bit of a belly; then it is a matter of picking collar and sleeve size. I did have a few shirts where the sleeves were too long, it left a lot of fabric above the elbows that looked bad.

    I bought a dress shirt that fits kind of right but the collar is a bit weird. It’s a spread collar but it’s kinda wide and long. My build is kinda similar to yours (5’7, around 60kg). I feel like smaller and shorter collars are more proportional for shorter and thinner guys but I’m not sure if this is a rule of thumb lol what do you think about the collar height and width?

  • @Razzzordback

    One of my biggest problems is that when I stand or walk around, the shirt looks spectacular and fits me perfectly. But sometimes when I sit down it doesn't always turn out well. Those that have a bit more waist and chest do not present themselves so well in a standing position, but it is better when we are sitting.

    • @WatchingNinja
      @WatchingNinja Год назад

      I think that's why he mentioned the middle of the ground fit.

  • @marcod.r.3299
    @marcod.r.3299 3 года назад

    I always do the sitting test....when I try on a new shirt, first it has to look good standing up straight...then I sit down, lean back a little comfortably and check if it doesn´t pull on my chest or belly and so know it´s the right fit.....if it pulls have to size up.

    • @Razzzordback
      @Razzzordback 3 года назад

      I do the same test but sometimes when shirt look perfect in standing position after sitting there are some fit problems(of course body is not showing but the look is not that perfect that i want) . I go size up and here we go a sloppy look when i stand but perfect when i sitting 😅

  • @AlexanderDemergis

    My biggest issue is when I raise my arms, the armpit / armhole is very tight and not a lot of fabric to move and it pulls my entire shirt up. Well my arms are down it feels fine but it's uncomfortable in the armpit

    Also my body is a little weird. I'm small at top and big at the bottom, I know for pants I should probably wear pleats but I'm concerned because I have a few chinos but they don't have pleats and I'm wondering if I can add pleats to my chinos?

  • @ScooterBlia2

    Problem I run into with most off the shelf shirts are sleeve length and shoulder position. I'm the average overweight American build, 190lb and 5'8-5'9. While my neck, chest and stomach say I'm a large in most shirts, the shoulder and sleeve length for Larges are usually on the lengthier side, 35in+-. I'm about a 31.5in in sleeve length. This can be easily tailored to work, but sometimes it's hard to get the shoulders right. They're usually always a little to long over the shoulders. Untucked and more casual shirts usually end up working just fine as I wash them normally, so they end up shrinking to fit the shoulder. But dress shirts that I only dry clean usually always stay a little past the shoulder bone.

    Man, I relate to the baggy sleeves issue SO much. I think we have fairly similar body types (I’m 5’7”, 125 lbs.) and it’s probably the most common fit issue I have with off the rack shirts. I’ve encountered overly baggy sleeves with slim and regular fit shirts alike. I guess clothing companies expect us guys to have huge biceps no matter what ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I have a question what do you mean by perfect fit air quotes I mean like are you stating that that we are that those was that can't afford those proper fitting shirts are you saying that we all can't afford proper fitting shirts is that what you're stating cuz it sounds like you're stating that in order to have a good dress shirt it has to fit you like a glove there can be no imperfections and also love someone just likes the style of a of a shirt that's very baggy and loose what if someone just likes that I mean what's wrong with that does it not fit your standards for clothing cuz it Doesn't that's good cuz you have impossible standard another mental RUclipsrs just like you have impossible standards that none of us can follow like come on get that out of here everyone knows that people like you are wealthy you're wealthy you can afford stuff like this you can afford your proper fitting shirts near really well taylored suits near fancy Taylor do you know it's like to not be able to afford a good fitting shirt no I don't know this from experience because I'm not that unfortunate but I I speak for most of the people here that don't like you kind of people that don't like you kind of people sorry autocorrect you have the problem is men like you need to seek perfection in everything like what I mean by everything I mean by everything everything you need to see you're soon as to be perfect you're sure is a perfect your tires be perfect everything cannot be flawed what's wrong with those flaw designs I see what you're saying but these are impossible standards that no one can live by but you you put you put People Like Us in these impossible standards okay I don't speak for majority of people but I speak from a majority people that enjoyment sell RUclipsrs but men like you you force others to fall and also you don't seem to understand the climate is a thing like for instance if it's hot out should you really wear an ocbd Oxford cloth button down when it's hot tell me when it's 93 degrees should you wear one I don't care what you say this rule of leaves up no that's not how that works look look not everyone lives in in a climate you're like you sorry started a bit here's the problem you think that you don't live in the south you live in California where it's mostly cool granted I know it does get hot over there but it's mostly cool over there mostly warm okay yeah the problem is here's a problem with almonds all of you have in common you won't as viewers to have this impossible standard have this impossible idea of what a suit should look like and not everyone has the means to afford that okay not everyone can afford fancy clothing I'm able to but I speak for people that can't I don't have that problem and I can't speak for people that have very little means to be well-dressed I'm fortunate I admit I can't relate to those people that can just barely afford anything and you do and you do realize that that's not the main staple of men's wear dude yes promise men like you and other people like you think that we should follow an impossible standard that no one can follow it's like no one can follow this only people like you are able to do it because you have the means people like me have the means to dress well okay no one else can humble yourself because no one else can follow such a standard you know why you know why I don't follow your standard and your rules because they're stupid they're bogus they're ridiculous they're preposterous who believes that mostly standards are real who cares how your tie looks or how your shirt looks how your suit looks all they care about is that you're wearing clothes doesn't that matter okay look you're such an impossible standard that none of us can follow it I don't intentionally follow it because I know it's dumb it's a dumb standard and you know that it is you just want people to buy more products so you get more money money money money that's what's wrong with you people it's always all about money you don't let you don't admit this and I and I know I shouldn't be passing judgment on you but people like you were just so annoying but I like your stuff so I'm still going to watch you but just who can follow such a standard let me know in the comments who can follow such a standard and I know some of you people tend to tend to be very quick in the comments there so bye

    8:41 appreciate the video but this shirt is objectively too small in length on you.
    not sure how tall you are but that cut makes you look 5'2"
    some serious charlie chapman vibes going on. Sorry not trying to be rude, just calling it out for what it is.
