I almost finished this series 1-2 years ago. Honestly, it’s good. The voice acting is also good for non-English speakers like me. Now this new season might be even better. I’m not a beginner anymore but I still left this comment here for anyone who is passionate.

not skipping any second of this. been onto this video for the last 2 days just learning all these knowledge while making my own model back to back. never had a background in 3d modelling, and have only been using blender recently, it takes a lot patience and nothing was ever easy everytime you do something new. but if you really love what youre doing the result will speak for itself i believe
currently at 5 minutes before the video ends. planned to upload my result here on yt after finishing all of your beginner series to show my appreciation for this tutorial , so thanks for this video guiding me into this industry i never i knew i love so much

49:01 A side note for this part: after extruding and then right clicking or pressing esc to cancel, it doesn’t cancel the extrude, it only cancels the movement of how far the extrude goes. So here, there was a face that was extruded but the extruded face was exactly like the original face because only the extrude movement was cancelled and not the extrude action itself. I’m not that experienced with Blender, but that’s something I picked up while learning. I’m following this right now and I got to this point and thought I’d make that note. I’m sure I’ll have more to say later about this tutorial, but that’s a side note I thought I’d make. This tutorial seems really helpful and I’m happy that I came across it :-)

extremely helpful, managed to apply everything to an anthro character (with a lot of tweaking) which shows the quality of this, since I was able to apply the concepts to a very not-human face because you explained why everything was needed
I always like to dive straight into new mediums so while a donut is helpful for learning the tools, I much prefer to learn the tools while making something I care about

Just for clarification, iunno if he explains it later, cmiiw, Eevee render engine uses synthetic lighting, which projects an object's shape onto another face or object to simulate shadow. While Cycles render engine uses raytracing, which shoots gajillions of light rays from all light sources and calculates the ones that bounces onto the camera. If it's not available to you, it maybe because your GPU doesn't support raytracing.

Not sure if anyone else had a loop cut issue where it doesn't go through one of your quads that follows the sequence but I had an issue around 1:29:10 where adding a face from vertex mode was really wonky. The issue is that the quad just needed to be merged and wouldn't cut properly before so I just selected the faces and hit m to merge by distance and it worked.

wow this brings back memories of my first full character modeling attempt in Lightwave 3D many years ago. seems like little has changed. point by point mesh manipulation is apparently still the best. i've been trying to make some speaking characters using AI but the tools aren't there yet. not even close imo. half the time what you get looks like something from a horror movie. plus it's questionable if you even own the end result. i finally gave up and fired up blender. in the amount of time it would take me to create something 'acceptable' with AI, i can make something perfect in Blender that can also be repurposed endlessly

1:58:23 "The next time you're with somebody you love, take a good look at their nostril-" - WOAH THERE, that took me off guard XD Anyway, great tutorial, I started it maybe a day or two ago and I'm already learning so much. I'm having some trouble, but considering the fact I'm using a drawing in an artstyle that is SO much different from yours, I'm doing pretty well. You explain everything in a way that's pretty easy to understand (I mean, english is my second language and I understand majority of it) and even if something is unclear, I can rewind the video and look at the way you're doing it on the screen. So far my only complaint is the fact the volume of this vid is pretty low, so everytime an ad starts I get a minor heart attack since I had to turn the volume up. Otherwise, everything is cool, we'll se how I do later on.

Cycles may crash your system if you set it to Cycles and try to render. If so, go to Edit > Preferences > System and set a Render Device (at the very top). You'll need to google which is which but I believe CUDA is generally preferred for Nvidia cards while HIP is exclusively for AMD gpus.

I'm working through Part 1, and I've inadvertently created an issue for myself that I'm not sure how to fix. I set up the Vertex Group to hide / unhide the back of the head. I accidentally deleted the Vertex Group from the list, and I'm now unable to unhide the back of the head while in Edit Mode. It reappears when I go back into Object Mode, but I've not figured out how to make the hidden portion of the mesh visible again. I'm pretty new to Blender, so it's probably something extremely obvious, right under my nose, and I just haven't discovered it, yet. Any advice or tips you can offer would be most appreciated. Where do you get the template for body, ears and all the rest?

Lots of turns to make an ear. I imagine that once you have one you don't do it anymore, you recycle it for all possible models, right?

I have a question, i saw someone did a head, they sculpted the head first (in detail) then after that they repotologize, is this method much faster with less problems?

Sculpting is the industry standard way of working and is much more artistic. When the sculpt is done, you retopologize and create a normal map from the sculpt. If you are doing simple characters like the one in this tutorial, it's arguably faster by skipping a sculpt.
