Hey There Joey! I was having some issues on the newest edition of Blender, Version 4.2. At 18:33 in the video you enable a feature called "Mesh: LoopTools". This no longer appears in the current version to my knowledge. Please let me know if there is an alternative to the LoopTools. Thanks for making such an awesome video! -Kiva
very true, my one singular problem though is that it's hard to find written out tutorials instead of videos. Which for some reason I believe I prefer and enjoy more.
I have to say in all my years of game development and modeling, this is one of the most perfectly paced and explanatory tutorials for anything. Amazing work.
I'm 2hrs into blender and 1hr into the donut video, Taking a break to just watch random Blender videos to get immersed in the language and uses. Im so glad i found this and can't wait to make my first person!
at around the 18:30 mark you wont find the addon in the addons section due to recent updates, you need to go to the get extensions tab (right above the addons tab) and search for loop tools then install, hope this helps!
your box modeling video lit up my imagination in such a whimsical way for the first time in a decade. This video is enormously helpful and not only carries on that imagination, but the editing is top notch and the humor is excellent. I'm actually crying from positive vibes, and feeling like I can enjoy the process for the first time since I started learning. Thank you, Joey.
Just wanted to say I rewatched this video after I had not worked in blender for awhile and found it incredibly helpful for getting back itno the swing of things. I get a lot out of your channel, so thank you!
Thankyou I've been looking for something like this that isn't just someone with a terrible mic trying to tell you how to make a character in a really boring way
Your videos never disappoint. You do a really good job teaching by example and having it actually be fun to follow along. Especially like the creative approach to using modifiers wherever possible, definitely makes things a lot easier.
This was one of the easiest guides to follow! I love the way you said everything you did because some guides leave out "unimportatnt" information and I get really confused.
Dude this is the most comprehensive video on modeling I have seen thus far. I watched quite a few other videos and they simply don't explain things like you. Thank you SO much for making this video as you really have made this possible for me and countless others I'm sure!
Amazingly done, Joey. I love how you incorporate a bit of humor and gags into your tutorials. Makes them entertaining and fun. Went ahead and signed up for playbook with your link.
This has to be the most comprehensive and easy to follow tutorial on RUclips. You did a great job vocalizing the keyboard shortcuts, which are very important for 3D modelling, and made sure to leave no gaps in explaining your progress. Very well done.
Yo m8 just saying I think your the most comprehensive teacher on RUclips for getting started in blender. Bc of your classes I finally got up the courage to make my first commercial game.
@@blackrubygamer3428 I've got a wide range of interests, fella. :b Don't be surprised to see me in the comment sections of other creative-themed channels like this!
I was surprised that the first character was already good looking and you also explained exactly where additional cuts need to be made and why. I was also struggling all the time that the character had to be all merged and was worried that I couldn’t merge all the parts well or I always had problems with the rig after applying the subdivision surface (primarily with clothes).
Big thanks, Joey. This is my third Blender tutorial (after Guru's donuts and anvil series) and I'm really proud of myself for sticking through it and figuring things out. Looking forward to rigging and animating Bizo!
Got through the whole thing over a couple of days and made Bizo "alongside you". I learned so many things in Blender that I didn't know from before. Thank you so much Joey. I'm gonna do your rigging tutorial next - and then by practicing these methods to make my own models - I hope to use these skills to get a job in the Game Industry, fingers crossed. Thanks again and have a great day :)
The repetition of the commands helped me start to understand what they actually do and mean, like loop cuts and scaling and beveling. I got stuck because my character wasn't centered and there's a tiny line of a gap down the middle, but regardless I've learned a lot and once I know enough to fix this one, I want to finish it :)
I actually cackled at 8:50 seconds that bit was way funnier than i was prepared for. Definitely earned my Like and subscribe wit dat one @joeycarlino you goofy bastard
Seriously thankyou for this video. Every time I make a 3d model trying to mesh it or add armatures it is a pain in the backside to "paint" the stretch stuff because of how many polygons there is, this taught me how to controll the amount of polygons, most video just teach you to sculpt which is not good for moving models
Super Tutorial! I'm struggling to follow all of your teachings .....I'll need a lot of practice but the result will be good for sure! And next to this will be the one about rigging. Thank you, Joey. 👋
Thank you for this video! now i know how to make one for my animation and will be uploaded in youtube! I hope you deserve millions of subscribers because of this!
If anyone is having issues with the eyes not being vertical. make sure too apply rotation and scale too the plane before moving it (you will have to adjust the thickness in the solidify modifier)
Whenever I want to mirror something in the center I always add an Empty Plain Axis. That gives your mirror modifier a nice centered object to mirror from. And when it's all said and done, you can delete it.
I know this isn’t for absolute beginners but WOW is this the BEST tutorial I’ve ever seen. Like not even for blender just in general. There’s never a question I had that wasn’t just immediately answered. Granted I’m not an absolute beginner at blender and 3D art so maybe that’s why. Either way, AMAZING tutorial
im a complete blender beginner, i'm 4 minutes in. i said "making a character can't be that hard.. right?" turns out, it's quite simple if you find a tutorial that uses the same version by someone who explains things fast paced but easy. this is my first time doing anything 3d art related for a school project, and i really do hope this engraves the basics into my brain so i can slay this
about 11:29 if you upload an image in orthographic mode ( bascily when you press numpad 5 or the others ) the image wont show up if your in perspective mode you can toggle it in the data tab on the right side also i recomend you set depth to default and side on both
I've learn a few niiiiice workflow stuff in this video, like the secondary things like just pressing f2 for changing the names of objetcs, pressing I 2 times for makinf it individual or set a collection cant be clciked in the viewport, that kind of things are very useful for having a better workflow and I appreciate that a lot
This is so well explained and fun looking! I'm kinda a complete beginner and this is working hella good for me! Thank you very much for the tutorial :D
A few questions: 1. Are there any disadvantages to this box modelling method? Any situations where a merged model is preferred? 2. Why didn't you use the solidify modifier for the shoe tongues? Are there situations like that where extruding for thickness is better? And why?
I couldn't get the shrink wrap to work. But I did come across a tutorial by 3Dnot2D the other day about using a lattice modifier to get a clean shrink wrap. good thing I had saved it for future reference, because it did the trick.
I spoke too soon. I noticed the eyes were a bit small but when I sized them up the lattice grabbed onto the top of the ears instead of the face. After a whole lot of fiddling with the shrink wrap, both with and without lattices, I gave up and tried it with just face snap and then I could finally get it right. I do enjoy problem solving, but at this beginning stage I can't tell why something works or not. It could just be me hitting some hotkey by mistake
Hello! I really like your videos. I was wondering if you could try to model a character that was more realistic or anime inspired, because I want to see if the methods you've shown in your tutorials would work for something like that.
wow... right now i'm at the uv single point assign materials part of the video. and i have to comment, this video blew my little mind multiple times. learned alooooot.
Blender has inspired me to write my own CGI software AND my own graphics libraries and drivers. Mainly since Blender itself is afflicted with bloat rot.
I haven't finished with the tutorial yet, but it's been very eye-opening and fun to follow! I'm technically still at 20:09, where you are explaining how to make the head, but since I go at my own pace it's been like one or two hours for me lol. I'm definitely checking your other tutorials, thank you so much!
Great video. I really like the low-poly version of modeling you showed at the beginning. I always have trouble when it comes to rigging. It usually looks fine up until the point to where I pose my character to sit. Then the verts around the hips or bum area always look off, no matter how much weight painting I do :r.
Nice, this is different to the way I learned but I like it. The workflow is pretty disaster resistant once you practice it a bit, it's brilliant for 3D animation. I'm definitely going to use all of this for asset creation in general. I personally love to build templates within blender for myself like just base designs that can be reused like this one or whole environments.
Hey man! great video. Will you make a rigging + animation video for this model in future? I'm a beginner and having hard time animating characters so that might help :) thanks
My mirror at 7:27 is not working, Im pressing CTRL + A and setting location, with the selection tool out, in object mode, and theres like a big chunk in the middle of air seperating both pieces
I'm assuming you're using Blender 4.1 or 4.2. I am using 4.0. I don't have a "Smooth by Angle" option in the modifiers. But I was able to use Shade Auto Smooth and just mess around with the angle and eventually it showed a good result.
NOTE: He switches from Vertex Select to Face Select A LOT! Also when you get to minute point 19 - none of the options work. So if it doesnt' work for you, don't worry.
