    My favorite part of this movie is near the third act when they establish the villain can see and hear everything, has eyes in the sky and complete omniscience, and the very next thing that happens is the lady decides she doesn't want to be involved and just walks home, all the good guys let her go, and then she gets captured immediately. Great writing, fellas. Keep earning that bread.

      Holy shit, I was wondering about this the other day. It's been so long since I saw this film, and I forgot how it built to that dumb climax where she's tied up in the old MI6 building that was about to explode. I thought to myself, "Wait. She was with Bond when he escaped that desert lair, and was with him when he got back to London, right? How did she get captured again?" And because it's Spectre, I didn't want to waste my time looking up the plot points of the film again, so I just left it. Thanks for reminding just how shit that third act was, sincerely. I forgot just how contrived everything about this film's plot was. Wow, she just walks off-screen, with the threat still at-large... This fucking movie, man...

The ones in df before the movie , were held at night and were more intimate. The real DOTD celebration is somilar to japans day of the dead - OBON Festival , very shintoist.

    The helicopter over the thames bit was probably a filming consideration. London has a really small area where hellicopters can be flown, and its basically just the thames. Emergency service helicopters can fly elsewhere, and you can get special permission but its hard and it takes a long time. Probably easier and safer just to fly where you are generally allowed.
    A villain may not care about that restriction (though flying elsewhere may draw unwanted attention), but from a practical filming perspective it makes sense.

There's no payoff in the track and so it just feels formless and meandering.

    I'm glad you called out Spectre for how silly its premise is. The idea that the villain is not only secretly James Bond's brother, but was also secretly responsible for all of Bond's misfortune in his life, including the last three movies, is just such a blatant retcon that is such an overstretch in trying to make everything relevant, that it honestly probably would've improved the movie if they'd just left it out altogether.

    The thing about Spectre is that to me it felt like it was two films worth of ideas crammed into one. It’s like the producers didn’t know if they’ve get Craig back for another one and so decided to introduce and deal with Blofeld all in one big story, and conveniently connected to all the past Craig films. While I don’t hate this film as much as others, from what I’ve seen, my opinion of it has gone down since I first saw it. The opening prologue is one of the best, if not the best, in the series but the rest of the film feels conflicting at times. As though they want to keep Craig’s aspects of Bond but also mix it in with some of the Moore aspects which does not work in a film that already feels all over the place at times.

    It's really weird, over the last few weeks I've watch all the Craig movies as a refresher for NTTD and I liked Skyfall way more, and disliked Spectre way more, than the first and only times I'd seen either movie.
    I think the problem is retrospectively Spectre doesn't really "earn" any of these big moments it tries to shoot for. Turns out Blofeld was behind everything in the first three movies! Umm, ok? Waltz was a great villain, because of course he was, but he got so little screentime and the entire movie is such "tell, don't show", that he's just kind of... there? and also ultimately pretty ineffectual for being such a seemingly omniscient villain.
    And then the romance with Madeleine, her professing her love for this guy that she only met like maybe 5 days earlier and didn't even *like* that much until they had one post-traumatic bang session, just felt so rushed and contrived. And the complete lack of chemistry between the two actors didn't help either.

  • @GoodWoIf
    @GoodWoIf 3 года назад +20

    One of the reasons I did like Spectre was that towards the end it really looked like Seydoux's character was just going to walk away from Bond and I was really into that idea. It'd be the first Bond girl (to my knowledge) who ends the relationship on screen on her terms, not dead or just thrown on the heap between movies. And she had good reason, but then she's just back for not reason at the end.
    I don't remember it well but I just remember being annoyed at them missing so much opportunities to do really good shit.

Even going through all the trouble of denying the character was exactly who everyone already figured out he was to the point of giving him a different name. And then the big "My name is Khan/Blofeld!" reveal falls completely flat within the context of the movie. FYI: I'm the guy that enjoys both Bond movies and weird movies like The Lighthouse, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

      The point of you not only being that guy to enjoy both kinds of films BUT ALSO having planned to watch The Lighthouse immediately after This (the 4th part of the series in which the boys discuss the bond series) for the first time is the premise, setup and Punchline of a fantastically delivered joke.

    The Blofeld thing in this movie also bears a striking resemblance to the Palpatine thing from Rise of Skywalker. Huh...

      A huge part of the Bond formula is kind of just copying whatever’s popular in action movies and really movies in general at the time of the films release. Sometimes it blends into the film really well and you don’t even think about it, other times it sticks out really bad and all you can think about during the film is “huh, this is just like (insert most popular action movie of that year)”
