  • "The southern metropolis of #Chennai remains an enigma. Conservative, yet progressive. Home to orthodoxy and a pioneer in equality. Leading in healthcare and yet a suicide capital. An education hub and centre of cinema. What makes Chennai tick?"
Sriram V is an entrepreneur, historian, #heritage activist and author. He is the editor of the popular fortnightly newspaper, '#Madras Musings'. His most recent book is 'Chennai, A Biography'.

Another land marks Theosophical Society, IIT and many more missed out. Time is too short to elaborate more. Kudos to you Sriram to bring the best picture of Chennai in a nut shell. Your narration is mesmerising.. 😊

Quite delightful presentation on the growth of Madras city - interesting & educative. It is a tough job to cover the whole gamut of Chennai city' s history since its early inception in a given time. Some details are new to me and I never ran into them before. I wish you' d made a brief note on the father of Tamil cinema director K.Subramanium & pioneers like AVM & S.S. Vasan. Anyway, your talk is quite useful for history buffs & others.

Royapuram railway station (station code: RPM) is a railway station at Royapuram, on the Chennai Beach-Walajapet section of the Chennai Suburban Railway network in Chennai, India. It is the second oldest railway station currently operational in India after Howrah railway station situated in Howrah, West Bengal (the original structures of the two older stations, Bombay and Thane, are no longer operational) and the first railway station of South India. The first train of South India started operating in June 1856 from Royapuram railway station. The station also remained the headquarters of the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway till 1922, when the headquarters was shifted to Egmore. Since the original structures of Bombay and Thane stations no longer exist, Royapuram station remains the oldest railway station in the entire subcontinent.

Shree Sriram VenkataKrishnan you are wrong with your information regarding #Royapuram is the oldest railway station building the first platform Building of #Thane then #Tannah is the oldest dated #1853CE. Kindly correct your hyping regarding "#ALL_HAPPENED_FIRST_IN_MADRAS"

Around 26:12 he clearly mentions that Royapuram is the oldest railway station today because the older stations have been demolished. He didn't say it is the first station.

Listen carefully sir. He did not say that the royapuram railway station is the oldest station. He stated that it was the oldest existing railway station in India. There is lot of difference between oldest and oldest surviving
