Sheffield to Attercliffe Road was often used as a cheap fare for buying an annual season ticket holder's railcard at one time, these days folks often use Ryde Esplanade to Ryde St John's Road on the Isle of Wight!
It's a shame that without any real significance a station becomes unworthy of saving. If it had a Victorian signal box that survived into the 90's the community would have made an effort to save it I imagine.

I was wondering, all these abandoned stations seemed to close around the 1990’s, is there a reason for this?
