Abandoned stations: Sheffield Victoria

  • Sheffield Victoria Station opened on the 15th of September 1851. It was a terminus of the Woodhead line going out to Manchester Piccadilly via Glossop Hadfield etc. The station closed completely on 5 January 1970 after the Beeching Report recommended its Closure.

    If you get on the train to Lincoln from Sheffield Midland, sit on the left and look out of the window once you have left the tunnels. You will see a line joining and that is the freight line from Victoria.

      The massive viaduct or whatever its called to the side would be a big clue haha thanks for watching

    What a waste of a station......and indeed line. So sad. The Woodhead route was quicker than today's route between Sheffield and Manchester.

    In another 75 years UK will have nothing to remember
    Except Naked Attraction, Ant & Dec, and all the other crap thats on our tv

    Hopefully we will have passenger services running from Stocksbridge to Sheffield again via this line, and a Wicker Halt might be possible...
