Thank you for this message! I keep remembering every time I get discouraged that it does not matter if the children don’t remember me..as long as I made made a difference in their life to help them learn..that will last for eternity!
I had this one teacher, Mrs. Collins, and she was the most selfless human being I’ve ever met. The year I was her student, her dad died terribly in the hospital. After a short time off Mrs. Collins still taught with a smile even though her heart was shattered on the inside. Sometimes we would walk in and she would be crying and would shake it off like it was nothing. I’m sure she just thinks of it as doing her job but she has inspired me to keep going even if you feel like you can’t get up.
JOE ! IM ONE OF THE STUDENTS FROM THE SHOOL YOU VISITED TODAY,IM IN 4TH GRADE! I TOOK A SELFIE WITH YOU!! YOUR MY IDOL! I don’t wanna say my school so 9/12/23 around 1pm is when you visited my school! I LOVE YOUR FACE!
Thank you for this video. Sometimes I forget the why of why I do this. While watching, I could see the kiddos that I know for a fact I had an impact on. The ones who come and see me every day even though they have moved on. The ones who write me notes to say thank you. The ones who run up and give me hugs whenever they see me. This is why I do what I do. I need to remember this each and every day. Thank you for noticing and for giving credit to that one special teacher.
This video reaffirmed the reason for me/ us saying yes' to the students that we've watched over and have protected throughout our tenure in the district from which we've worked. Iv'e worked with some of the best educators in this world. And still are proud of everything that we have accomplished' in helping our students achieved. Joe thank you for realizing' the importance of the work that we all do.
I’m currently a 58 year old elementary education student at the University of Phoenix and I watched this video as part of a class assignment. As someone who has returned to college after a long absence and who wants to become a teacher, starting in his early sixties, I found your story touching and inspiring. I can’t tell you how some friends have discouraged me from doing this because it’s a thankless job with little money and little appreciation. But I really want to help and I believe that I can help others as a teacher, regardless of my position in life. Thank you again for inspiring me and am looking forward to watching your other stories. I’ll continue to try and do my part.
I still feel inspired from this video. Thank you again for continuing to make a difference. When the time is right, I will do my best to pay it forward too. * John - Dancer's Rhapsody

Thank YOU for validating all that we do as educators. Not because we NEED to hear it - we would continue to teach regardless because it is truly a calling. Thank you simply because you’ve given us a snapshot of a life changed because of our call to teach. Many of these snapshots we may never see or witness, but we have faith that these SNAPSHOTS do exist in our world. Thanks again.
Thank You Joe, I absolutely loved the video. It was so uplifting especially at the end of the school year. I know that I am not perfect as a teacher and I have had students come up short. But in all the almost 20 years of teaching, I have in my memory 2 students who I remember the most because I FAILED Them. They were always trying and did their work but somehow I was unable to help them achieve their full potential. They are the ones I remember! I do not quit on my students. I am always there. Thank You!
WOW!! Nothing has ever made me feel like I chose the correct path in life before I heard Joe Beckman's speech. This is exactly the reason I get up everyday and go to work with the biggest smile!! I just want to make a difference in the lives of our future! We usually do not ever know how we touch the lives of our students, but once in awhile a student will reach out and write a song about you, draw a picture of you, or simply say Thank You. This has been incredibly inspiring and will give me strength to keep finding ways to reach my students during remote learning!!
Jackie Kriebel .... I’m so so happy to know this message connected! I promise to continue to make more of you promise to continue to love those students of yours! You’re awesome’
Thank you for sharing your story. I hope your daughter is well. It is true we never know sometimes what a child is feeling, I am glad she had Miss Patty. Thanks again for the gentle reminder of how powerful our role is in society.
Thanks it made me cry and after 21 years in the classroom teaching 2-8 and 11-12 all kinds of schools I have to remind myself of this frequently despite in the past I have had Admin tell my I'm not a good teacher. But you know what my students in the past have said differently as it's about them nothing else !

Thank you for sharing your story here and for the work you do. Thank you too for recognizing teachers. That is not something that is the "norm". We are all inspirational when we are helping others in any capacity. So important to let all know we see their light.
So right, Deborah! It isn't the norm. As much as we love the students we teach, many aspects of it can overwhelm us! Like today, when I had to walk to five different classes, log onto my Google classrooms/Safari Montage, and give it all to make my music lesson have purpose and meaning. Without my music room! The redundant logging in and out of each PC was so frustrating! It was the excitement of seeing so many familiar faces that I haven't seen in over five months that got me through! Thanks for your comments!
Such an incredible message to hear as we again prepare to head into the classroom here in Canada (Ontario). More than ever we need to step up and teach and love children and help them to feel safe and hopefully by year's end it will be one of the years in their schooling they will never forget for such great reasons! Thank you for this wonderful encouragement!!

The most powerful message I've heard on this Teacher Appreciation Week! Although it is harder in some ways, but we can help someone even while remote learning is in place.
We thank you for your understanding of our dedication to our students. Your words are much appreciated, especially now in these crazy times of teaching.
THANK you for this. Day 2 of this school year, I was ready to walk out of the door to never look back. That is if I had the years in to do so. This is year 25 for me and I've never felt so discouraged and unappreciated this early in the school year. I needed to see this more than you will ever know. I truly hope I can be Ms. Patty even if to only one student this year it will all be worthwhile.
Thank you so much for your words. I have been retired for 10 years. I taught high school Language Arts for 31 years, and loved 99% of time. However, since I am out of the classroom, I have come to realize that very few feel the way you do about teachers. I feel that society in general has a disdain for teachers. You know- it's so easy to teach, you get so many holidays, and the big one: you get your whole summer off. If our society believes education is so important, why is educational funding one of the very first cuts made in government spending? I have so much more to say, but I won't. However, I am so proud that 2 of my sons are teachers and teach in the school that I taught at and where they attended high school. My blessings to all teachers for this year.
I needed this today. Sat in Zooms all day about how to deliver instruction remotely. Thank you for reminding me why I signed up in the first place. This year, I will try to be Miss Patty for those who chose to attend in person or remotely. I can do this!
Thank YOU, Joe! Appreciation for our profession is worth its weight in gold for so many of us. This video was just what I needed today. Thanks for being part of our school community and its journey! ❤️
THANK YOU for this beautiful message! Teaching takes a lot of heart and energy day in and day out and it is the best job in the world! A student once came back to me, three years after being my student.....my first year out of college.....when I was just figuring out how to be a "real teacher", how to live as a married woman, and how to reach out to my students who were only a few years younger than me....... She came back to thank me for being all that she needed back then.....even tho it took her a long time to figure it out. She said that because of me, she was a much better person and I was her role model......and if she started to "lose it" in a frustrating situation, she stopped and asked herself, "What would Mrs. Kennedy do?"........ 43 years later, as I tip toe towards the last 2 years of my teaching career, and the last Mission Trip with my students to the orphanage in Peru, I still stop and pray for Cindy L and some of many other students from through the years.....and wonder how they are doing on their life's journey.
Thank you so much. I'm sitting here trying to motivate myself to spend hours on a Sunday afternoon, away from my own baby, to grade papers and write lesson plans.
