  • President George W. Bush presents the Congressional Medal of Honor to the wife and 11 year old son of fallen U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Paul Smith at the White House on April 4, 2005 . . . exactly two years after he made the ultimate sacrifice performing his heroic actions in Iraq.
    Sergeant First Class Paul Smith was the first to be awarded the Medal of Honor in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

    I remember being a young Soldier and being so impressed with SFC Smith. I’m now a CW3 and still try to emulate his leadership. What a great NCO, what a great human, what’s a great man/husband/father. RIP brother.

      Hope to put your mind at ease if you get the chance to read this. 21 years later and im still going strong. Leading a life I hope he would find proud.

      Three years too late as I look back on his 21 year memorial. My Dad will never be forgotten.

    This actually made me cry what a great man can I believe what he was able to do when most people would Retreat or try to hide he saved numerous life my heart is saddened to see his son receive that award knowing that he would trade that award for one more day with his father God bless you mr. Smith you are a true hero in every sense of the word and now you rest among all the other Heroes among very great company Medal of Honor awarded soldiers that put other people's lives ahead of Their Own God bless his entire family

    actually it was a fully automatic 50 cal. that he took out 80 enemies with before his death, i am very good friends with his father, ivan, bill smith, paul was more than a hero, he was a warrior!
