Dry eyes are a common side effect of LASIK surgery. The eye relies on a thin layer of tears to keep it moist, and LASIK surgery can disrupt the tear film, causing dry eye symptoms such as burning, itching, redness, and blurred vision. There are various treatments to minimize the discomfort associated with dry eyes, such as lubricating eye drops, dry eye masks, and in more severe cases, medications and therapeutic procedures.
While this video focused on dry eyes treatment proven to help with post lasik, these treatments are also helpful in all forms of dry eye syndrome.

Thank you for making such informative videos. I have been suffering from severe dry eye over the past year. My eyes are very damaged. I have found that not a lot of health professionals understand the disease or take it seriously. Thankfully I was able to find the right clinic and I am now using all the treatments described here except for the plugs and the autologous serum. I have dry eyes, I use Refresh gel drops 4 times a day. Then at night I use Refresh lubricant at night with paper tape to keep my eyes shut at night. Paper tape is cheap and doesn't take out any eyelashes. I put tape from under eyelashes to cheek (not across eyelashes like on the diagram). Only one piece. Works great.

Very informative. if you can discuss the impact of multiple eye or ocular procedures on dry eyes. For example:
Dry eye after Lasik. Then upper blepharoplasty surgery (eyelid numbness -upper and lower- is evident from nerve regeneration post surgery). What risks are then of undergoing lens replacement surgery for increasing/worsening dry eyes?
I ask as since Lasik (monovision) My presbyopia is driving me nutd. I basically live in my entire day in reading glasses for work. I can't even read a food label without taking a photo and zooming in. Decided as a 60yr old with the start of cataracts (and entire family who had cataracts) to get the lens replacement. Last minute b4 the procedure the surgeon said Lasik caused scarring and my vision might remain blurred, so called it off. Only positive was now knowing that the bright blurriness I see when reading (frustrating at eye exams to explain I can see the letters but there is some light refraction in the middle of the letter) and the type of glare from oncoming car lights, is due to the astigmatisms. Canada has since approved the light adjustable lens, which I'm told will allow the adjustment of the prescription to try eliminate any bluriness from astigmatisms. I really want to do this RLE and be done with readers, and be proactive against future cataracts. Soo would love to see it explained in a similar fashion what compunded effects are from Lasik, to severing nerves in upper bleph, to a lens replacement.
Starting to think that the impact of Lasik corneal scarring on cataract patients are only going to come to the discussion as Lasik patients age.

Thank you! I had the Smile pro a week ago and while it did get much better after day 1/2, now my eyes feel super dry and my vision seems blurrier than then. I have to admit I barely got any sleep because I've had a lot of night shifts and exams and probably should be less infront of a screen (mostly tho, it's just not realistic not try not to use your eyes in a regular day). I liked the evo hylo drops at first, but now they seem to make it worse - especially since they somehow make my eyelids/lines sticky. And trying to focus better somehow hurts my eye...muscles(?). Hopefully it'll all regulate by itself soon. Quick question: Since IPL seems to be helping, it couldn't really do much harm, right? I have an IPL devince that of course isn't made for any eye/medical issue but just for hair removal, but I noticed that even though yesterday I closed my eyes when using it on my legs, I still see bright red light through my eyelids. Before, I never even closed them (there's just a lot of light in the room leftover when you flash with these devices) - could this ever be harming the eyes? Or might having them closed even help a little bit?
Also! You have such a wonderful talking voice! You should make hours long videos of you just rambling about whatever and I'd listen to it all day 🙃😄

I think my Ophtho rushed me into the procedure, and I’m pissed. He did the tear test and I was extremely dry 4 days pre-op. Then he redid it on day of but it was weird, it was only like a minute and I think he put some drops on it? My dry eye has been ridiculous post op, especially after sleep and it’s basically not letting me heal. I’m a radiologist so I am 1000% dependent on my eyes for my work, really frustrated now.

One day my left eye went black for 20-30 sec and I got scared and saw my optometrist who looked behind my eyes and saw nothing also confirmed it wasn’t and eye stroke. I still had a healthy eye and 20/20 vision. Today I wake up and have a sharp stabbing pain in the same eye. I put warm compress, too fish oil supplements, eye drops, and castor oil and it has been shooting the pain on and off all day. Please do you have any suggestions? Hey May, the redness is a challange for sure. The veins dilate due to acute and chronic inflammation. Some eye drops can cause them to constrict and appear smaller for a short time but long term solution is to decrease the inflammation and treat the vessels directly. • @DoctorEyeHealth

The heat and pressure with those types of masks cause a temporary corneal distortion which will make your vision more blurry. The heat will encourage the blood vessels around the eyes to dilate and the eyelids may look more red for short time. Worth a discussion with your local doctor about their thoughts.
You could also try the TearRestore mask is it doesn't push on the eyes and cause that distortion.

Hey doc - OBSESSED with your videos. Thanks for all of this dry eye related information. I have an interesting situation that’s recently happened. 🧐
I’m blind as a bat with really bad myopia (-6.5) and have worn regular Acuvue Oasis contacts for at least 15 years. For some reason, I literally woke up one day and both my eyes were severely dry. Never any issues prior. I can’t tolerate my contacts anymore and I’m stuck with my glasses. I am dying to get my contacts back, but after about 5 hours of wearing them….major redness occurs that takes days to recover.
It’s been a few months, and I’ve been to the optometrist a few times and they’ve prescribed a couple of rounds of drops that didn’t work. Eye pressure is normal. No other medications other than one very interesting correlation that I fear isn’t discussed enough these days. I was using over the counter La Roche Posay adapalene on my face every night. This is a retinol and a fantastic skincare product!! However, I’ve read that retinols can cause dry eye issues. Have you heard of this issue happening to any of your patients? I stopped taking it 2 weeks ago, and still can’t tolerate my contacts. 🥺 For all of my the dry eye people - be careful with retinol and other skincare products!

Unfortunately I am disappointed with the amount of side effects I’ve had (almost all of them)… and have become depressed over it… any advice on what I can do? I still have dry eyes but now only need 1-3 eye drops per day to feel 100% (although I have a bit of redness at the end of the day).
According to google most people have dry eyes cured in the first 6 months but about a quarter take up to 1-2 years to fully recover from that symptom. Ask help to an eye doctor that is specialized in dry eyes to help you managing the symptoms and stay strong, one day the symptoms will be completely gone

Please help - thank you much

I too use expired eye drop wo knowing & my eye is very blur too. I stop all eyedrop & continue w the heat therapy. Before I sleep, I would use a cold spoon to sooth my eye , It takes sometime to get back to normal. No point keep going back to the dr. We ve to do a bit of research to learn from others too. Hope u get well soon.

Thanks very much Pat appreciate it - I did go for another procedure Dr scraped inside of flap - he put in a contact bandaid which I told him will not work then he floods eye with numbing drops six days later - eye is worse its ever been now also thinking the scraping changed prescription in eye so not good, just saw him again and he said flap is not right - maybe if he listened to me it would have been fine - thanks again for helping
