  • Testing the second Miniscribe 8051A drive that was made operational again after cleaning a connector. Reformatted and ran every dos test I have access to and it passed every one of them. Scandisk, Norton Disk Doctor, and Norton Calibrate to pattern test every sector.
Only two bad sectors that has been there since I got the drive in 2001
    40MB IDE
    Build date, 1990
Start up, load basic dos 6.22, load Norton system info from b: 5.25, and run benchmark.
This drive will probably go to someone that needs this specific drive for a hard coded bios.

Wow you have got two of these drives? Sweet! Glad to see both function so well, I'm not too sure about their reliability but they seem very well put together actually.

One is being prepared for sale to someone local that needs this exact model to replace a failed one that was original to his machine.

Just after this video was done I unfortunately lost the computer I was using to test these. The 386 board had some damage from a leaking bios battery prior to me getting the board. Lots of work to repair the traces. Need to find another board. I will put something else in that case for now to hopefully do more demos.

@@matthewsvideos8235 That is a total disaster to hear! Sorry for the loss there, also nice you have someone local the drive is going to. If they offered I would take the bad drive to mess with lol, who knows when you would need a replacement PCB right : )

@@cdos9186 I thought about asking that. My Western Digital stepper IDE was made to work from a spare logic board.

@@matthewsvideos8235 That is a cool fix you were able to do, also for me just messing with broken stuff is a fun activity haha. Well if somehow he still has it wouldn't hurt asking I don't think.
