I bought my friend a canon m50 for $400 for her RUclips channel. She was using a Sony a5100. Both are older cameras but the M50 doesn’t have overheating issues like the a5100 and she does mass shooting. She immediately noticed the jump in quality. I have a canon r7 as my main camera but use the m50 as my travel camera. I always point out to people that if they aren’t even going to bother with 4k then the M50 is a great option. It’s easy to use, portable, and has a great lens! My only note would be that the RF mount is definitely closed to third party vendors, but that’s just for autofocus lenses. I recently bought some 3rd party manual focus lenses. Up until this point I only used autofocus but I’ve found a new love for cinematography and photography with manuals. Great video!

I picked up an M50 in Japan (here they call it the EOS Kiss M) in 2019 and was immediately in awe of its ergonomics and feel. For me, a camera, or any device/tool for that matter, could have dazzling technical specs, but if it doesn't feel right; bulky, weirdly placed buttons etc, I'm not gonna use it. Actually, I don't know how would I improve its design without bumping up the price - I think it's an aesthetic marvel of a camera. The small form factor also puts people at ease (that's if they even notice you're holding a camera) so it's perfect for street and portraits. I use the M50 for work and events with a Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 Ⅱ USM. (with EF adaptor). Some people may have remarks about the disproportionate size of this lens to the body, but who cares....I don't! I enjoy this setup, it allows me to take great wildlife photos. Glass and not a top notch body should be #1 priority if you want crisp images. I love this camera so much that I even bought a second one and have a wide prime stuck to it which means I avoid missing shots when out on assignment. I've rambled on here but yes, the M50 is definitely worth it in 2023 (now 2024), as long as you love how it feels and don't care much for shooting in 4K/log.

I just get new lens for this camera. I got canon efm 32mm f1.4 only for $230. Such a steal deal can't wait to arrive and shoot more with it.
Agree - love the M50 Mk2 - great small lightweight camera for travel. Just took our family Christmas photos and used the Canon Connect app to take the photos remotely. Wish it had a port for an intervalometer, but that is my only complaint. I just used the 2-second timer for recent partial eclipse photos (with proper filter of course). I don't really use video that much, so although the R50 is better there, the M50 will suit my needs for a few more years to come. Found a used 55-200 lens for $199 and with the kit lens and the 22mm, it's a great and compact package to travel with. I have a 70D and take this one instead for travel - so much lighter and better - still a great camera!

Great review. I have the M50 (not Mark II), and I'm loving it as a beginner. I just started using the 22mm lens and have a lot to learn, but I love it.

If you have an m50 that is over two years old and has its array of native lenses, then it can still serve you well in terms of photos...the efm lenses carries some of the sharpest and lightest lenses out there which is good for those who wanted to travel light.
Yes, the M50 is still an awesome budget, portable, and capable camera!
1:27 I Have some points that can make Ur content more engaging:
1_Keep Ur Eyes On Camera all the time.
2_Use a Back Light to saturate yourself from the background (if U don't have it use reflector)
3_Use The Effects "visual Effects" it makes A difference
It might be some advice to make Ur content looks good Hopefully it was good advice "Keep Go Dud"

The M6 Mark II was the best of the EF-M format but the M50 was the best value. But now that the EF-M format is gone if one already has invested in the lenses I would go ahead and get the M6 as one can find them pretty cheap now and you get 4K video with no crop.
Have my m50 for about 6 years and still goes strong.many ppl be down that canon had neglected the m mount.

Does canon have an app for sharing photos and videos to your phone like gopro where you have to buy a subscription or is it free? Because I don't want to pay monthly/yearly subscriptions

You can with the M50 Mark II I believe, but not the first one

The M50 is a great beginning camera! The Canon 22mm F2 lens is also a nice compact lens able to get some amazing shots as well as the Sigma 30mm 1.4!

I am planing to buy myself one so I would like to know the low light photos and videos quality. Also wanted to know whether it has heating issues. I am a beginner so which lens do you recommend? Do I get the kit lenses are comes with the camera or should go for other lenses?
This is a great camera for beginners! The quality is really good for an entry level camera. As far as lenses the kit lens is pretty decent, but if you have the money I would go for a Sigma 30mm or Canon 22mm since those are great prime lenses.

I do car photography, would you suggest this camera for that? I currently use a Nikon D70S and it has served me well but I need something I can also record video with as well as better photo quality than what I can get from my D70S
Yeah it looks like the Canon M50 will be a pretty nice upgrade! As long as you get some good lenses this will be a great option!

It is discontinued but is it worth the buy? I think that depends on A. What do you care more about? Photography? Then absolutely yes this is an amazing photography camera. Video? It was nice video paired with a nice lens and great lighting but do you care about 4K? It’s unusable really. B. Do you care if your camera is discontinued even though the lenses available are more than enough for a beginner or hobbyist. People are still buying EOS M bodies today for magic lantern purposes. If you like your body and it breaks you can buy it again used and cheaper. If you don’t want to invest in a dead lens mount you could go with the R50. It will start you off with rf lenses. But you might lose the portability the M series lenses are known for

I’d like to know if it’s ok for videos still in 2024. I had mine forever but rarely used it. I’m ready to use instead of investing in something else. Also what would be a good lens for videos?

You can get the R50 for almost the same price which is way BETTER than the M50.
Way better in which way? The M-mount is better for budget lenses in my opinion and lenses are just as important as the camera body.

Wat better? Lol there's almost no lenses for RF-S...
EF-M lenses are better... sharper, lighter, cheaper, brighter. You have the choice of Canon, Sigma, Samyang/Rokinon, 7Artisans, TTArtisans, Tamron...
RF-S... 18-150, 18-45, 55-210 (all EF-M lenses ported over and all inferior).
The M50 is still currently a better proposition
