US version / X68000 "Original Mode" with Roland GS MIDI music. After selecting "Original Mode", hold L1 and R1 to access the sound hardware select menu.
I have skipped "Arrange Mode" because it's almost identical with "Original Mode". The only difference is that "Arrange Mode" is much easier. You have an option to adjust the amount of live, continue and time.

This is one of the more....erm, obscure Castlevanias, but still a classic in my book.
I love how there is so many different types of monsters and enemies in this game because some of the castlevania games they rehash the monsters too frequently and it makes it kind of boring ,but I love how this one has like special characters for only certain parts of the game,
I'm sitting here trying to figure out why Dracula lowered the drawbridge for Simon.
I think it's Dracula's way of saying *"Enter if you dare, mortal. But remember: you will never survive the night!"*
It’s not worth trying to delay the inevitable.
And then he hides weapons and power ups in candles and food for him in the walls. It's like Drac wants to lose.
@@lawv804 They didn't have fridges back then, where else was he going to store food
@@CornishCreamtea07 🤣🤣
this was fantastic to watch so much skill to do no damage
Oh this bastard of a game. That time limit almost killed more than anything else. I had to run through the levels as fast as I could and still barley made it. Dracula was the worst. I got the herb somewhere and never lost it. Without it I would have never beat the game.
symphony of the night i think its best but this is the classic Castlevania..
Question: I'm trying to get symphony of the night and do you think the sega Saturn version is good to get. It lets you play as rickter and Maria from the start and it has brand new items and 3 new areas. Also Maria plays more like she did in rando of blood and you also get fight her in a boss fight.
I would recommend the ps1 version, but if in the future you manage to find a copy of the saturn version it would be worth checking out. It was a shoddy port so it's really only worth getting if you already really, really like the game.
WildMattata It's also funny to watch the wolf charging in slow motion. It's so majestic! Also I found out the Xbox 360 version is best cause it had the bonus features of the saturn version with its loading time as good as the ps1 version and no slow down.
Old post I know, but the Saturn version has a bigger map with more areas to explore. Yes it does have some slowdown but I can put up with that for how much cheaper it is than the PS1 version.
Tea&Crumpets ..The Saturn version of “Symphony of the Night “is no longer “cheaper “than the PSX version ,and I might add the former was only originally released in Japan..
One of the best Castlevania games and judging from the comments here, definitely the most underrated!
I remember buying this game as a kid. Was definitely difficult but I loved the original Castlevania games.
Thanks for the upload!
This game rules. It's hard as heck, but really fun and satisfying.
49:05 dat glorious, badass intro.
With a crappy midi-like music
This reminds me of the original Castlevania for the NES way back when. Great walkthrough!
Cause it is
@@SonofSethoitae it clearly isn't lmao
@@gv82089 You realize that Castlevania Chronicles is literally an update of the original Castlevania on NES, right?
When they threw the blood on the casket to revive Dracula.
"That's why I always wrap my vampires in plastic sheeting."
Simon walks with so much GROOVE
Perfect play great show
Wow I was under the pretense that this was basically just a port with updated graphics. But it's actually in a similar vain to Castlevania 4.. I'm actually really impressed with the level design, like with the raising water as the platform unbalances from the oncoming debris. The boss design is really cool as well, like the bat being made from multiple bats and also that skeletal Ridley like boss. From what I can see you also have more control over your wipe like in 4, AVGN would love this.
Hard game, but actually managed to beat it.
"Bloody Tears" first showed up on the 1987 Famicom Disk System (FDS) release "Dracula II: Noroi no Fuuin" (lit. "Dracula II: The Accursed Seal"; this was adapted into the 1988 NES release "Castlevania II: Simon's Quest") as the daytime music (except in town and when it's dark).
Damn, Konami struck gold with Castlevania...and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
War Zone No worries. Here's the other! 👍
Edward Gaines and Metal Gear among others.
I remember reading is for the TMNT that most of the production centered on their games.
@@josh6453 Metal Gear is trash
When he climbs the stairs, its like he has high heels on.
I would've picked up the Pocket Watch at 31:58. It would've made the fight with the Doppelganger way safer; it's one of the few sub-weapons that it can't clone (that, and the Herb [its healingeffect], if you have it).
17:35 Baphomet in the background.
strange this phase .. have ice many say that powerful demons be in antarctica ..
he means the "creature" in the background texture, which is called "Baphomet"
EDIT: www.google.com/search?q=baphomet
One of the best castlevanias, up there with 1 and 3 imo. Shame most people overlook it. That werewolf can go to hell though.
Nice joke
good game
The walking animations were exaggerated for the NES games to show that the character really was walking. Konami was working with limited hardware and had to find a way to convey subtle details.
I guess that kind of exaggerated animation just stuck with the rest of the series until SotN.
I never seen this before until now and I want to buy it now I have all castlevania games from 1 to symphony of the night I thought castlevania 4 symphony of the night were the best but now I have to include this it looks awesome
I love the Iga interview at the end!
Back when KONAMI was at its prime....
Music sure is hot here.
I just bought this on the play station store, hope it's worth it
oooh you can pass the lifting pillar of ice like this, no wonder i never found out
31:43 - 33:33 Nice music & nice moon in the background!
Bloody tears has been in castlevania longer than that.
It is a Remake Original Castlevania Port From The SharpX68000 PC And I Like The Original Midi Ost More Than CD Mode
@cubex55 Also unlikely, because stage 4 theme is Bloody Tears that's been in Castlevania series since 1991.
simon looks as though he pooped his pants with fear , thats why he walks funny
well you can say he was wearing a diaper
now that's a determined walk
Shame this game won't let you whip in all 8 directions like in Super Castlevania IV
Its essentially a remake of the first game so they kept the original game design. Letting you whip in all directions makes the game easy and makes all the subweapons completely irrelevant.
cJinL Really now? The cross is beyond godlike in IV.
***** The whip is still superior in the vast majority of situations in 4 with the exception of certain bosses.
***** Basically what made 4 vastly superior than other titles is because of the difficulty...It didn't rely on cheap deaths or clunky controls for it to be difficult, It just needed to be difficult in its own right, so it's mainly you vs the computer, and when you fuck up, it becomes your own damn fault and your bad playing...You're well equipped to take on any challenge in this game, so there's always going to be a way around everything, it's use of your skills and mind and being totally immersed in the game, giving you the feeling that you really are Simon Belmont....and there's no better feeling in a Castlevania game than that.
treeghettox So why don't you say you love clunky controls, cheap deaths, asinine gimmicks that CRIPPLE the player, because you clearly think that games should be near impossible to beat because the controls are crippled!...In other words you are a fucking masochistic jackass
i think bloody tears has been in every castlevania game since simons quest that came out in 1988
hahah! the whip hit sound effect sounds like it's poping ballons!
best player
Simon belmont the badass vampire killer..
Uno de los Castlevanias mas difíciles que me a tocado jugar
This was never released for SNES, why? The game would be 16bit-compatible (maybe with some intro/outro-cutbacks)...
Made for a Japanese computer.
That whip sounds like a shotgun..
More like popping a balloon
amazing, I love Castlevania games but never seen nothing like this before, perfecc score, great, please do more Castlevania longplays, C. Harmony of Dissonance Please
48:02 - The maid service is to die for. ;-)
Is ghis a 1:1 copy of castlevania on the x68000?
Yes.
No, but the game allows you to play the "Arrange Mode" which is the PSX version of the game with rearranged music, graphics and sound effects. You can also pick "Original Mode" which is the X68000 version emulated. Atleast one thing I noticed is that the dolls at the 33:37 area are missing all their dialog like "Welcome back" "Who are you?" or "Please stop" (when they dodge your whip) in the Original
Mode. Granted these lines were in japanese, but they weren't replaced by anything so I find it odd they removed them as they created some character for those who understood them.
dude, that's a game cult theme, Bloody Tears, its present since the first games of the saga, to be exactly, Castlevania II - Simon's Quest
Wicked Child Castlevania (1986)
The game that cursed Simon's hair until Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
50:52
"NO, THIS CANNOT BE!"
"NOOOOOO!!!"
Oh, and great long play as well 8-]
Pretty good game. Pretty primitive compared to Symphony of the Night and doesn't look as good as PC Engine Rondo of Blood, but still not bad.
17:05 Nosferatu in the back. XD
This game is cool but my all time favorite is Symphony of the night
Buy it
@venomousstring I'm thinking he was talking about Lament of Innocence.
So refreshing after stage 15, many stuff I have not seen in any other Castlevania. Does anybody knows what happens in Death catches you with the little vortex?
@RNorthex The Arrange version is even worse. They give him purple hair. PURPLE.
why tf the whip sound like a balloon popping lmao
This looks like something you'd see on the SNES. It even has MIDI music.
Nikku4211 It was on NES....
DarkHalmut The original Castlevania, but not this remake.
Of course...
DarkHalmut The parts they changed for the remake could've been done on the Super Famicom.
08:08 NICE SOUND :D
Did Konami just use MIDI for the soundtrack of this game? I mean it's still good and reminds me of Doom :D
@@Mini_Vmac Haha true
the whip sounds a lot like a bullet firing from a gun in this port
Nope. It was first introduced with the release of simons quest in 1987.
4:32 did anyone ever top to think how HUGE that painting is? In context of the game, who made it, who put it there, how did they even get it into the castle? It's taller than my house!
It is essentially a mural, Which can be quite huge.
YES. Thank you!
+harizotoh7
Actually it's red hair. Check the art for the game.
I really like this game... but the last level was fucking HELL.
Dracula's second form doesnt even have to be hit in the head? Looks like a cakewalk.
Stage 10 is Bloody Tears... Not sure what stage 4 is, doesn't sound like a previous song off-hand.
actually its been there since 1989.
@Kingofbandits05 Don't forget about Beef Wallington. ;-)
@ICEGOD2 In 2001. I managed to clear it once on Arrange Mode ^ ^"
Did you change the sound? On this one?
38:45 fucking craving that music
You know aside from the music being slightly better and the cinematic cut scenes, the graphics in the actual game don't really look that much better than a game on Super Nes or Genesis, a side by side comparison with this and Super Castlevania IV there really isn't much noticeable difference.
Tony Seyffer no shit Watson its a port of an old game
yay, turrican as the player name :D
Wow great soundtrack! I would say its up there with Super Castlevania 4.
well technically, it's been in the series since 1987. i'm sure you already realized this though
Oh man, the Belmont strut is so... not manly anymore.
Stock sound effects and Midis!
Not even one hit? I wonder if save states were used between stages because it seems robotic to go through all of them without a scratch.
The music sounds like it belongs in a Pac man game
the soundtrack sounds so midi like
Looking at all the old castlevania game, I really want to know what was the creator's fascination with making all of the characters walk in a "fist pump" kind of motion? Were they just all deformed or were all of the Belmonts just so horribly disfigured and handicapped that they collectively dreamed all of this Dracula nonsense up? Konami, what's the deal yo?
SCV4 had much better animation and way better sound, despite this being on a CD format. The graphics all in all and from what i can tell from the video, the gameplay was just all in all better in SCV4
SCIV was also on a system that didn't use FM sound as it's default music, the SNES used PSG and sound samples, so they wouldn't sound alike. You could say this is a rather raw sound, but had this game been released in arcades, you would've heard similar music to the X68000 version as arcade games were built off of the X68000 engine that powered the X68K, and also used FM sound.
This was also ported from a July 23rd, 1993 game released in Japan, and this release was some years later in 2001. I remember buying it upon release, of course I also had it preordered at Gamestop, back when lesser known releases could be preordered, I may have been the only person in my area to preorder. Years later, an online buddy of mine in the UK sent me a PAL version of this game, so I have it for 2 regions.
The animation of Simon looks really bad to me, liked more the animation in Super castlevania 4 and symphony of the night...both master peaces of video game history.
What was the game he was talking about int eh ending?
I'm lost in the chronology.
8:42 While I prefer the FM & Roland LA versions of this track for the grittier sound, Thrashard in the Cave is my personal favorite piece of the OST. The original idea was straight-up metal, but the GS card makes it a little too refined, IMO. Still sounds good, though. Really, the best thing about this port is you have essentially 4 different soundtracks you can play with. That said, the arrange mode version of Moon Fight (31:43) has amazing slap bass and is worth a listen.
1991? What about Simon's Quest and Haunted Castle?
Am I alone in thinking many vania games are considerably difficult?
i came here for 44:55 .
i don't remember hearing music even close to this in doom lol are you sure you heard it right?
Is iga in that special interview?
whats weird is Simon on the cover has red hair, red armor and looks like a badass. But in the game he's the same brown armor, brown haired dude like in the first... what the hell?
In arrange mode you can play as red head Simon
Stuck on Arranged modes Werewolvf boss
Does anybody know how to save this game? Or it just saves after you beat it?
Little late but you can save to the memory card after a game over
Castlevania Bloodlines wipes the floor with these castlevania games..including this one.
Since Simon is not in that one i have to disagree ;)
No, it's a damned fine game, but it's difficulty is far less than this one, though the continue limit is a kick to the balls.
And IGAvanias all destroy these old linear Vanias (except Harmony of Dissonance, it's meh)
