It was strung left handed, so it wasn't anything crazy but I'm sure at the time it was very unorthodox. It definitely looks really cool. I've never played one that way but I've always wanted to take a left handed strat and turn it upside down and string it right handed. I have heard that because of the orientation of the bridge pickup that it turned up the bass e and makes the high not so harsh.
Other left-handed guitarists played a right-handed guitar just upside-down without restringing (Dick Dale comes to mind), but, as stated, not Jimi. -In this clip, he's actually just playing a regular purpose-built left-handed guitar.- Not sure why I said this. BB King did this same many times. Its amazing watching when hs is singing changing and tune the string at this same time. Unbelivable, anyway I love Hendrix!
I have an old Super 8 reel from my parents honeymoon in 1970 I believe. Hendrix was doing a show at the theater at or by Disney World and while my parents were kind fumbling with the camera they saw Jimmy and a couple security guys walking him through the park. They managed to record(no audio) just a few seconds of Jimmy casually walking at Disneyland. It’s a cool item to have. 🤷🏼♂️
Let Jimi's estate make a copy. They can donate it to the RnR Hall of Fame. Any Jimi Hendrix artifact has historical significance regardless of how small or seemingly insignificant.
It was not intentional.Jimi always knew that he didn't sing well but his guitar always made up for it. Yep after awhile it didn't matter to us. It was how we expressed ourselves back in the day. The musical sounds were voices. The beats were fantastic and the guitars were smooth and singing.
@@michaelcantu6071 it's easier to sing flat when your guitar is flat then it is to sing in the right key. More than likely, Jimi couldn't have hit the correct note even if he tried, it's very hard to hear one note and simultaneously sing in another key. It would hav even more impressive if he saying the correct note either while playing the wrong on, or what he should have done, just stopped playing and sing the song till he had a chance to tune it during on of the song's breaks
He wasn’t playing in tune….his bottom E is obviously out…it sounded like shit. I’ve seen guitarists tune on the fly while playing hundreds of times. I think most of the people in this comment section are non-musicians or mediocre musicians at best..because tuning in the middle of a chord is not only common, but it’s also ridiculously unprofessional to have your bottom e off by essentially a whole step. I love Hendrix, but the comments are kind of annoying
You’re 100% right. I clicked on this expecting to see Jimi burning his guitar or something, not tuning his e string. You know, like any other guitar player. I will say, I’m surprised it wasn’t a LP g string going out it whack 😂
@@freeman7079 Don't read those comments. It must be hard for you, being annoyed the whole day.🤣 BB king did replace a whole guitar string by himself...while playing on stage! There's a video from it, remarkable!
He didn't just tune the string though, he made it part of the song, and he did it with perfect timing in the space of a single phrase. You can see that even Jimi was impresses by how it worked out.
Getting back in tune while still playing is something guitarists have to worry about sometimes. And when you play as acrobatically as Jimi did, you risk going out of tune more often. Nowadays Fender makes tuners that lock in place, but Jimi's Strat was from another age. And another universe.

Jimi is THE coolest dude ever and he tunes the string in a very stylish way for sure - he even incorporates it into the song like it's a special effect - but tuning a string mid-song is routine for any experienced player. It's just nudging a key left or right and you can pretty much guess how much and get very close without even hearing it. Cool moment but not historic, LOL
I strongly agree. I love this clip. I think society as a whole weighed on him heavily. Making it in the UK and being accepted there as the greatest., then coming back to fucked up America as it was at the time and having to cope with all of the racist bullshit here. Then retuning to Harlem where his own people didnt see him as black enough. And he was such a cool down to earth dude. And already by then being fucked over w money hungry promoters that used him and ripped him off. Who could he really turn to? He was right about eveything, and didnt care about the money. Towatds the end he was into jazz fushion and all kinds of cool experimental techniques in music and producing. Way before his time on so much. I guess we can only feel blessed for the short time we had him. He's still the greatest guitarist that ever lived. RIP Jimmy Hendrix.

Played it off so cool.
You don't have to try to sell me on Hendrix anymore...I already like him...
Coolest cat to ever walk a stage
Second maybe I was the coolest cat to hit the stage no doubt then again I was off stage too
That is not a cat, that is Jimi Hendrix silly!
🙌💯👌, Jimi Hendrix was the best , like evh, there will never be any guitarist like them
Love Jimmy The Best of all Every in this Era’n
Hello friend, I’m Morgan and you ?
BB King did this same many times. Its amazing watching when hs is singing changing and tune the string at this same time. Unbelivable, anyway I love Hendrix!
I have an old Super 8 reel from my parents honeymoon in 1970 I believe. Hendrix was doing a show at the theater at or by Disney World and while my parents were kind fumbling with the camera they saw Jimmy and a couple security guys walking him through the park. They managed to record(no audio) just a few seconds of Jimmy casually walking at Disneyland. It’s a cool item to have. 🤷🏼♂️
Upload it now
That's truly awesome to have. Please keep it in a safe area to keep harm away from it.
Give it to me NOW!
If it's 1970 that would be right before he died... Would be cool to see
Let Jimi's estate make a copy. They can donate it to the RnR Hall of Fame. Any Jimi Hendrix artifact has historical significance regardless of how small or seemingly insignificant.
Another great musician that's missed.
The cool part is how he sang the lyrics flat to match his guitar. Just saying, not the coolest thing in rich but still shows a legend improvising
It was not intentional.Jimi always knew that he didn't sing well but his guitar always made up for it. Yep after awhile it didn't matter to us. It was how we expressed ourselves back in the day. The musical sounds were voices. The beats were fantastic and the guitars were smooth and singing.
@@locadisa he didn’t like his singing voice, but he knew how to sing in tune… him singing flat to match the guitar was definitely intentional
Hendrix said “this cannot be” and actually warped reality to put him back in tune
The greatest guitarists ever,hands down!!
Still missed and dearly loved 🙏❤️
post that iconic moment when he turned his amp on! omg epic
🤣
Insane, he was really able to play in tune with a untuned guitar, pulling the strings in tune.
@@freeman7079 youre exactly right
You’re 100% right.
@@freeman7079 Yeah it's not hard to tune on the fly unless you're tone deaf. Plus that part of the song was an easy moment to do it.
It's just incredible how a professional guitar player can tell that their guilt is out of tune, it's just the coolest thing in Rock n' Roll history.
Long live Jimi through his timeless music!☮️✌️🤟🤘🎸🎼♥️
This is cool... like the time when he brought his guitar 🎸 with him to his gigs to play Infront of an audience.
Or when he used a pick to strum the strings with it!
🤣🥁🥁-🥁‼️
True legend 🔥🔥🔥
Jimi Hendrix was a very classy dude
As someone who’s played guitar over 30 yrs I’m still waiting on this amazing thing that’s in the video🤷♂️
Geniuses enjoy tuning…♡
"that's it Jimi thought to himself, tune your string. It was not only then rock changed but the planet re-aligned to it's correct axis"
😂😂💀💀💀💀
Which was a bold move seeing as how we only have love to guide us until then.
Nah coolest moment is BB stringing his own guitar mid song
Amen

Sadly missed loved you Jimmi
Jimi is THE coolest dude ever and he tunes the string in a very stylish way for sure - he even incorporates it into the song like it's a special effect - but tuning a string mid-song is routine for any experienced player. It's just nudging a key left or right and you can pretty much guess how much and get very close without even hearing it. Cool moment but not historic, LOL
VOO DOO CHILD TALKING ABOUT DOING THAT STRING THING BENDING OR MOVING HE COULD DO IT
AND YES HE WAS COOL
I tried climbing the stage... But got high
Lord what a great guitar tone he had!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
The greatest guitar player ever Jimi Hendrix🕊🥀🙏❤️❤️❤️
Cause Jimi was cool. In everyway. And Jimi was a fearless musician. Live for the BBC. (Cream hommage)❤
Fight the powers that beee 😮
He was cool as sht. We’re being robbed by not having him around, should find who is responsible. More candid Hendrix content on my feed pls.
Typical liberal statement. Newsflash! He was responsible. Nobody got robbed he killed himself with immaturity and drug abuse. End of story.

Fender offered to make a left handed Strat for him. He refused. He liked it being upside down.
The whammy bar was easier to reach that way.
Not only for wammy bar..... Change sound.... He just found his way...... His own way😉
His dad didn't think being left-handed was a thing and would hit him when he saw him playing the guitar upside down. Jimi would flip it and play it right-handed with the strings upside down without missing a beat when he heard his dad coming.
