Great review 💕 i honestly expected more vocals in the outro (almost like a FLAB moment) but she still sounded great, and i agree with most of the things you've mentioned. Can't wait for the Christmas special to be released 😍

When I first started listening. Idk why. But I felt like I was listening to MY ALL. Maybe it was the acoustic instrument but it was just wonderful. The outro was everything. I wanted more of it.
I like it, it sounds passionate. However, I don't feel it that much like a regular Christmas song - it doesn't have to, tho - but like a Summer song. It sounds "warm" to me, if you know what I mean. But it still feels good for a cold Winter night 🙂

The outro was pleasantly unexpected. I really like that she played with different sounds. I still wish we get a new Christmas song in the likeness of "Christmas Time is in the Air Again." I love how calming and Christmas-y that song is :)

I love how u pointed out her buttery tone has return back cause I notice that too!! I was surprised she didn't over belt or strained her voice for gospel section of the song she had a nice balance which tells me mariah saving the best for last her whistles notes sound super clean and full sounds like mix between her old whistles sound and her current heady whistles sounds they sound alot healthier with power and ease. Im interested to hear how her upper chest voice sounds like since this song doesn't really show that only glimpse of it
I actually love it and it doesn't need more vocals. I think now she's more wise when to belt a lot and where not and doesn't add crazy belting everywhere. Her southing sound gives a charm era vibe and her gospel whistles really add magic to the song. I also love that she didn't go by a rulebook and created a different Christmas sound that can be played in early November and not only Christmas time. And yes she looks stunning and her voice sounds crystal clear! Can't wait for the special♥️🐑💅

I simply LOVED that song. So catchy and elegant, for me it’s one of her best materials in the last 10 years. Even tho, I prefer the radio edit without the outro. Her vocals on the outro are good, but I found that part a bit lost in the song purpose and general melody, it’s a “too much” on the song and I don’t think it fit well with the first part of it.
It’s a 9/10 for me.

I know that this is going to be an unpopular opinion but the song is just …ok , nothing special about it or very Christmasy, it would be a nice song tho if it had different lyrics and it would be a great continuation to the trilogy that is :my all , after tonight and I only Wanted you to stay as they sound very similar , but what I want to say is that I’m getting kinda frustrated with Mariah at this point because she is really not trying to sing anymore and she just whispers and whistles , her belts never go higher than an eb5 and if they do they are hidden so far in the background that they are basically non existent , I get not wanting to try and take risks when she’s singing live in front of thousands of people but in the studio she’s never been shy to deliver us godly vocals and I’m wondering what’s going on ? Ever since caution she’s been so extremely careful in the Studio and her vocals sound so calculated and confined (I don’t mean to say that they sound weak or inadequate ) it’s like she’s afraid to try and see what she can do or she’s too bored to try and exercise her voice and get it in a better condition that will allow her to once again be playful with all of her registers and especially her upper chest voice … I don’t know … some Lamb Stans are going to drag me for this but I said what I said
Side note : I know that Mariah has nothing to prove anymore and that she’s a living legend so she does whatever she wants to but what I don’t get is how a person who’s always had a taste for extreme vocals and has always tried to do her best to deliver such vocals , has all of a sudden stopped and is heavily relying on whispery and breathy vocals and some whistles , and do not try to say that she did the same thing during the charm bracelet era and album because even though that album was full of breathy vocals and background whistles it still had incredible high belts and intricate runs which she did using her chest voice
I agree 100% I find the song just ok and It doesn’t really sound like a christmas song to me either. I can understand why she doesn’t want to belt high as much anymore but what’s confusing is why she barely uses her chest voice on new songs and why her vocal arrangements have become so simplistic by her usual standards. Most of the new music she’s released since Caution (2018) just sounds uninspired I want her to sound fresh and not like she’s bored doing rehashes of songs she’s already done.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’s a stylistic choice. I think in this case it’s a matter of “just because you can doesn’t mean you should”. The song is mellow, melancholic and chill. It would be extremely out of place (in my opinion) to have her belting over the top of it. What also needs to be kept in consideration is that it’s a duet with Khalid. I don’t know him as an artist that well, but judging from this song and a few others it’s clear that his whole thing is his tone and vibe. He doesn’t really have the range. So to have him be smooth and breathy, but Mariah belting F5s would sound disjointed and incoherent. That’s also why he basically drops out during the outro. He can’t keep up vocally.
Personally I don’t think Mariah has gotten complacent melodically or vocally. The new version of We Belong Together is extremely intricate and vocally demanding, so she can still do it if she wants to. I think in her mind the two registers that sound closest to when she was younger is her whisper voice and her whistles. It’s also what people most recognize her for. And when I think about it, her belting is always the thing that is most heavily scrutinized by the media and fans. Like people “calling her out” for pitching up her belts on songs and so on. So I think she’s staying within her limits to avoid all of that.
This is just my opinion though and you are entitled to yours. Music preference is subjective anyway
@@proceedwithcaution5153 I do agree that she’s still capable of doing amazing intricate vocal arrangements. I enjoyed the new versions of “we belong together” along with “Oh Santa” and the quarantine performance of “joy to the world” they were great but they were songs we’ve already heard. It wouldn’t of made sense for her to be belting high on this song cause it has a chilled vibe your right, I would like to hear her use her lower to mid chest voice like how she sings the verses on “O holy night” more on new songs in general though cause that part of her voice still sounds amazing, wish she would start working with different producers again like she usually does when recording new music.
@@Jay-we5nv she said in an interview that with caution she wasn't in a place that she wanted vocally and that she is not very proud of her perfromance. For the next album she is coming for that kind of vocals again

This song sadly won't be a smash because it lacks everything a Christmas song needs to be a smash.
Christmas songs are very chilled out music.
We get she has the whistles but this is not a Traditional Carol.
Christmas music is supposed to be singable by everyone because it's music that brings people together. That is what All I Want For Christmas Is You does.
This doesn't do that at all. Just an avenue for 5 octaves of voice that sadly NO ONE CARES ABOUT AT CHRISTMAS.
