- Reviewing the Lenovo Legion Go handheld console, including an unboxing and full gaming experience. I've tested a LOT of Windows handheld gamers as we hit 2024 and the Lenovo Legion Go sure has some impressive features. However, it's not quite the best out there for battery performance, while the Steam Deck OLED boasts slicker software and a more gorgeous display.
Positives include that sharp 144Hz panel (even if it's not OLED) and the FPS mode, which is well suited to precision shooting. The Lenovo Legion Go performs well when plugged in too, although it's bigger than the ROG Ally, Steam Deck and most other rivals.
Windows 11 is as borky as usual, while the Legion Space software can also have its moments. The Legion Go isn't exactly super portable either, because of its size as well as its short battery life. For gaming on the go I'd recommend the Switch, or even that Steam Deck OLED.
So have you been using the Lenovo Legion Go as your handheld device? Let us know below and I've rounded up the best portable gaming consoles in a separate video!

Your channel is such a breath of fresh air. Yeah there are alot of reviews on this product, but somehow you manage to fill many holes, presenting things the other reviewers have missed or thought not important. Thanks alot!
Love mine. Being 70 I need a big screen. Considered replacing my 7-year-old PC, but that is still fine for most stuff. The LLG gives me portability plus with an EGPU enclosure and my 34-inch monitor good gaming.
Damn 70? Glad to see the uhh.. more mature generation are enjoying new tech 🤭
Yo thats Crazy you still Gaming at 70 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Love mine too, for the same reasons, although I am a mere 64😊
@@MooseUKglad to see older gamers. If i make it to that age i hope im still gaming.
This is actually so cool to see
I spent a good 20 minutes looking all over the channel for your review nice that it came out two hours ago.
Was already planning to get the Legion Go after X-mas. I love your reviews. Keep up the great work.
You won't regret it
Someone of u did regret it ?
@@kewa_design no regrets. I really like this device.
What games do u plaay on it im tempted to grab one @@vincentkong07029
I bought the device after seeing your review
I am living the great days of my life with legion go
I don't understand why he was getting bad performance when pulling out the charger lead. Something is wrong here! I've got the legion go and the same games, and they run much better unplugged! Wonder if he is actually setting it up, all updates etc...
I have the Ally and absolutely love it- was thinking about getting the Legion Go for my son as a gift for completing the school year, thing looks awesome! The future of handheld PCs looks very bright! 🤘❤️
I didn’t know I needed a cheeky British man (I think it’s British, the accent) being cheeky and snappy and intelligent and educating me about tech he’s savvy about… but I doooo❤ thank you to you and your whole team!!! Also appreciate the chapter names in the time scrubbing bar… I se you and appreciate you whoever is naming them!!😂
Just ordered mine.. arriving today.
Hello and thanks for the great review! I have a question before pulling the trigger. Does the left pad work when the right one is removed? I want to play Android games but with the left pad plugged, remove right pad and use touch pad for the on-screen interface. Thanks!
Got mine last week, absolutely great piece of technology! Love it!
i got mine but waiting to open what is the first thing i should do before i start playing drivers to download ect i’m new to this compared to steam deck
@@sharpiesharpie8356 my advice would actually be to touch nothing unless you have problems. Just boot up, install your preferred game launchers & games, set it to your preferred power mode with the overlay & start playing! If you find a game you can't run then look into fiddling around. The reason I say this is when I got mine I installed the new drivers & fiddled around in the AMD software & made things worse & had to restore to factory defaults!
@@hokayson6518 man i appreciate responding lol coming from a deck i didn’t have to do too much and watching a lot of these videos made it feel i needed to go crazy on the amd driver updates ect i’ll definitely do that thanks again
Glad to hear you're liking it. Can it also plug into a monitor for a larger screen or are you only stuck with its screen
@@Cyberjunk33 yep you absolutely can plug in a USB C to HDMI or Display Port cable, or get a USB C dock if you also want some USB A ports for e.g. a mouse & keyboard too.
Watching on LLG
How about mouse & keyboard RTS games? Is it suitable for these types of games?
How is the screen on this thing? Like compared to an oled on the switch or steam deck. Is this thing worth it if your someone who loves oled screens? I’m torn please help
Just to note, the left legion button can fully customize the colors on the thumbsticks.
You covered almost everything for me I looking at getting one over the next month I currently got a Asus Rog ally I just need to know can this hook up to a monitor via a docking station like the ally
Yes and supposedly supposed to get better performance when plugged in like the rog ally. The only thing is, os that you might want to update the drivers as they need updating apparently. It is a hassle in comparison to the other devices, but the performance looks significant based on a video I watched.
6:40 It seems just the easily accessible Esport titles hit 144 fps/hz to me. CS2, Valorant, Rocket league and all the games in the Halo Master Chief collection have hit 144 or above so far.
Great review!
I generally play need for speed and forza so in summary, I cant olay it without it being plugged in?
love mine had it awhile now
Can u play CALL OF DUTY MOBILE?
Czy możesz oglądać DeviantArt na telefonie komórkowym?
@@rafaberin6789COD Mobile or MW3? MW3 runs awesome in 1080P after the bios is updated and the 6gb VRAM setting is applied. Prior to, you might not get past the menu screen 💁🏻♂️
Can you have the settings change automatically when unplugged?
What I have learnt from the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch is it pays to wait for the OLED upgraded model. I'd rather they just started off with an OLED screen in the first place.
So true. I was already thinking what will the v2 look like 😂
Yes Oled but 120fps max we don't need 144fps.
Just purchased one and waiting for it to come to me. I will say. I love your review of this, I love the humor you have also. My biggest worry about the legion go is I’m a Xbox guy with that being said I’m worried I won’t know how to set it up and game.
You'll be ok, just install your preferred game launchers & games, set the power profile to your preferred in the overlay with the top right button (I live on performance mode 😎), then play your games 😊!
The problem is I'm not sure if the games I'm trying to run are actually able to run on this. I tried battlefield 2042 and it was unplayable at 22fps@@hokayson6518
Which do you think is better? This or the ally?
Thinking of getting one of these for plane journeys and times when just chilling in the hotel room and obvs chilling at home, can you play offline games on it such as when you’re on a plane or can’t get wi fi?
Yes, as long as the game can play offline on a PC also
@@jordanali605 brill thanks for replying mate!
Does anyone know if there is ANY way to limit the charging to 80% or similar?! If I plug it in to use it with a eGPU or at home with a charger, if it stays at >95% it will kill the battery quickly. Most phones and devices allow to limit from 50-80% not to damage the battery if we use it plugged in…
Which one i get the rog ally or legion go
I've seen people complaining about being it slow and not so responsive compared to steam deck. Is that true?
When you're using that controller as a mouse. The joystick is removeable and there is a spot for it in the case.
Clearly got inspired, and took the best parts of both, Nintendo switch and Steam deck features and put them into one. But still, not a fan of windows 11. So I got a Steam Deck OLED instead. Not regretting it.
from Ghana, definetly saving for this
Real quick, could you share the exact measurements of the kick stand. I want to see if I can attach an external battery to it with velcro. I don’t care much about the weight since I will be playing mostly with the remotes off. I am sure I am not the only one. Maybe food for thought for a video. Thanks in advance for the measurements.
The kickstand flap is 165x70mm 🙂
I own a steam deck and this legion has grown my interest would you say it's worth more than the Ally ? Or is the steam deck enough not to get another handheld ? Anything different besides the gimmicks?
If you have a steam deck you don't need this.
I have to love the fact that you got a cat! Two I got myself, makes the video extra interesting ;)
Have a question for ppl, I don’t know what I should get the go or quest 3? I know they both totally different type of devices and somewhat do different things.
i just order this thing the main reason it was for that big display i wanted to buy rog ally but the sd problem push me away i hope i made the right choice
Should I wait for Legion Go 2? Any opinion?
They need to start doing bypass charge for these pc handhelds. Like zte do with their nubia gaming phones. Bypass charge mode would be great for gaming in doors then charge it over night and use it portable on the go before the battery runs out in 90 mins. Pretty poor battery life tbh but thats what you expect with a beefy pc cpu it will drain the hell out of the battery!
This does have bypass mode that was one of their selling points..😂😢😂
@@Jhoffa22_ I doubt it he would have mentioned it in the video!
@@PAUL-MHis does have it. In the latest bios update you could turn it on or off.
Why not have video in 60fps ??? I want to see Go gameplay in 60fps
This I would choose over Rog ally, once you go steam deck trackpads you can’t revert back to joysticks for strategy games, and this mouse hybrid seems better than steam deck‘s trackpad situation.
had all 3 rog, sd and love the go,the most. have had issue with performance, and changing screen resolution in game, but hoping these will be fixed with updates, especially dead issues on sticks
I got the new update which gives you dead zone options for the sticks yesterday 😊
Can you play PC only games with this?
The problem is it's so loud the fan in this it's c azy how loud it is so if your not on headphones it may drive you crazy, I would definitely recommend the steam deck oled unless you want windows
This looks nice
You think this graphic will last about 2 or 3 years?
Gr8 review Chris. I don't understand why manufacturers are thinking it's best to put panels in these handhelds that are above 800P. I take low resolution but locked 60fps any day. Even when the future next generation of handheld CPU's arrive, they won't be able to run at 1600P. A complete waste of specification and cost IMHO. Regardless of the other flaws that owners rate poorly on Argos etc, the excessive resolution of the screen Lenovo used would stop me picking it. There are many games that it couldn't even run at a locked 30fps at 1600P. But my days of wanting to game at 30FPS are long gone. a missed opportunity I reckon with this handheld.
Not really, you can always stream on higher resolution like GeForce now.
@@catch82exactly this! It's great having such a sharp image for non-gaming use, & then just running any demanding games at 800p. I'm really glad they went with a higher pixel count screen, I doubt it adds too much to the cost as they're just using one of the screens from their tablet lineup so they probably have a good price on them already.
The console has good reviews at currys
@@catch82totally agree , the screen still isn't that big for a 800p being too noticable
The Legion Go is the right size, maybe a bit bigger is better. Nobody is putting these devices into the pocket anyway. And if you're carrying it inside your bag, bigger screen estate is better.
If you want a pocketable, smartphone size, handheld PC, then even the smallest one Asus Ally is too big for that.
Can it edit 4k videos with 10 layers ????
one of the thing that i like with steam deck is replacement parts.. these handhelds needs replacement parts and thats why I am out, sure you can find another controller but how long before lenovo changes the model and switch to another type..
Community support at its finest.. and bunch of third party accessories. Specially dbrand nad jsaux.. what i like with SD if u accidentally break a parts or burn in OLED in the future the ifixit is always your be ur handyman
Valve is like sony
They will not release next gen console unless they see any significant performance improvement from there current unit.. so ur hard working cash will be not easily gone every year.. because of each year upgrade ..
Sounds like it needs some updates to fix those issues.
I'll wait a bit myself
Thank You for the clarification. I thought they were going to give a cat with that.
Gorilla glass seem to me like washing powder. When the new on comes out the previous one suddenly doesn't clean anything gg becomes as scratch resistant as mk3 cortina
Love all your content as always; But damn you're ripping on this thing while running 2 relatively poorly optimized brand new AAA games my guy. Run some moderate or slightly old AAA games to really show off its features!
Steam Deck started a revolution!!!!!
Dang idk why I would get an Ally now
No idea what he was doing with settings but look at other channels for benchmarks they show much better performance.
that was epic !
haha, his video brought me here
I remember when I was in elementary school having a Super Nintendo was a huge flex, having a SN and gameboy was the ultimate flex. Now having this thing as a kid is like a God tier flex 😂.
The Game gear was the biggest flex. That colorful screen...😏
@@Makta972and the TV module
I have one of these and a Steam Deck... and the Steam os is boss imo for handhelds but Big Screen on the Go is a good balance... love it! anyone want to buy a Steam Deck?! :D
The ergonomics are crap though (I have big hand too) and the FPS mode doesn't feel any better tbh but x-box controller sorts that out..
The screen is a blessing and a curse - 800p is the best you'll get unplugged.
Very good a dedicated device for game lovers how much pounds
No built in gyro??
Picked mine up 3 days ago from very for £588
Plugin power only increases about 10% performance overall, also charging with a 100W PD/20V/5A should give you 80% in 30min.
Great, informative and honest review, chap. The higher the specs the greater the drain on the battery as youve demonstrated. For all its faults i think ill stick with me steam deck. Im sure it will be a while before the ultimate portable pc gets released and by then i reckon most folk will be returning to their desktops anyway. Its just a fad, methinks.
Love the cat!
Damn the cat not being included was what i was hoping for now i dont care to get it at all. Kidding got the 1 TB Lenovo. Cat would have been nice tag along the. Cant wait to see what this puppy can do.
Which is better overall the steam deck, OLED, or the Lenovo Legion go??
It’s good to get both I have std deck and upgraded to 3 tb I will get the legion go when price come down
@@bachatas809 just out of curiosity, why would you recommend getting both?
Depends on ur game AAA or casual . If you pilled up all ur game in steam and steamos is straightforward like grab out from the box and your ready to go.
Got my today is the best not going bk to ps5 any soon by ps5
I love it to death but i have two major issues. The first is that whatever the right trigger is functioned to do based on the game ends up happening even though i didnt press it. It happens the most on shooters which is infuriating. The second is that shutting the screen off and then turning it back on will cause fhe screen to lock itself on a black screen and i have to turn it on and off multiple times to get it to work again. Fix these two issues and we'll be good.
So they just basically build it and throw it inside of a box?!? I just returned mine, i thought they gave me a used or refurbished one. My S24 & Watch 6 i had to peel off temporary screen protector. 😂
Can I play Forspoken and Miles Morales Spiderman on it?
about to buy lenove legion go but there no cat not included
i change my mind
Dang I just said the same thing without seeing your comment. Got mine today can't wait to try it out.
Bro I was literally dreaming about Tech Spurt uploading this weekend last night rofl
i suggest installing playnite ..mucg cleaner interface
How much you can get one of these in UK?
I bought mine 3 days ago from very for £588 with a promo ccode they as doing but normal price now is £650
I really want to copp one for the size and hertz but i have a steam deck and buying it for fortnite is not worth it. This is why i brought the steam deck, then realised i couldn't even play, dont regret it, and i can play on my Samsung tab s8 plus, but i miss gyro from the Nintendo switch days
So what you are telling me, is that it’s not really fit for purpose and in a few years it will be out dated and can’t be upgraded the same as a PC. Great and informative video and love the channel and content.
Basically like a laptop or console….nothing crazy..
I heard nothing but praises about this system and I feel like Asus could learn from this, same with Valve as the device is a power house of a portable pc
Hehe, funny and accurate review 😂👍
Aren't those glowing rings just wonderful? Their luminous appearance really adds a special charm, giving off a sense of enchantment or futuristic style.
Jesteś królową morza
What I am afraid of OLED screen on PC Handheld is too much static images that can cause burn in
It's no different then a OLED monitor or a phone screen
Same if u using an amoled phone ..
Only the 512GB model is available in the UK. 1TB is a US thing only.
just upgrade ssd ..or buy a 1tb sd card ...games play well from card..i have one
I shouldn't have to spend another £100 (minimum) for a decent amount of storage. Lenovo are just ripping off the UK consumer.
Apparently 1TB model is coming in Q1 ‘24.
Królowa morza
came here cause juan is selling it for 1$ THAT WAS EPIC!
same!
The LCD on this thing is magnificent. I honestly prefer LCD for gaming since it doesn’t strain my eyes more than OLED especially in low brightness.
You have a really cute cat
I am waiting for Xmas 😭
Not just flat surface for FPS. But it would absolutely awkward for left handed people haha
I cannot understand how respectable companies sell these beta products (all portable windows consoles included) as a finished product.
Since it has two ports, it would be nice if you could "double-charge" it twice as fast.
I dont think this will work. But with the latest BIOS update Lenovo enabled fast charging.
That would require 2 batteries!
Can u play CALL OF DUTY mobile?
It’s a nice device but for me it’s still gotta be the Steam Deck, no Windows on it!
Doom crashed on you because RT is automatically turned on. Had the same thing. Without RT it can handle 1600p medium settings around 55fps. Of course lowering the resolution you can set the settings to whatever you prefer.
Can you load normal exe files onto it
Yes as its windows
The price
This review is actually honest. I tried one for two days and returned it. Its loud, has horrible gpu performance, windows 11 sucks on this format and I have no clue why anyone would pc game on any of these. We have two nintendo switches in the house so its not like I am new to this format either.
So basically need to be plug in all the time
The legion space is absolutely garbage, they should of spent some time with Rog Ally, there's no numbers next to the battery percentage, you can't move the fps display,no screen recording, there's no led to let you know if it's charged with the screen off,no fps limiter, plus loads of other stuff....the speakers are absolutely awful it's like your deaf compared to the Ally which has dolby atmos, and the rumble in the joy pads are like a wet fart and no freesync but it does look nice
All that power and that performance memu was laggy as hell.
Absolutely amazing device and the detachable controllers are a big plus! This thing handles my architecture/3d modeling work with ease! I highly recommend it! 💯
