As a mother of black adult young ladies, I would never let them appear on the world stage like that. I only took a cursory glance at her hair and I knew what was wrong, and what would make it right. Black hair comes in all textures. By her age, as her mother I would make sure her hair was done properly. And no, I'm not advocating hair relaxer. The solution is very simple. She would have soared with neat hair if she was my daughter. I saw a video of her mother preparing Simones hair by corn rowing the front prior to an event. I couldnt believe what I was seeing, flyaways everywhere😢. Yes, her performance is ultimately what counts. We know that. The problem is the "uniform" for female cheerleaders, gymnasts, and tennis players. That ponytail with a ribbon 🎀 has got to go. While I've never posted, for years I've thought to myself "why can't they brush that child's hair?" These are women they are not little girls in pagents. Black female athletes can't be subject to the same hairstyle. Let them wear micro braids in a ponytail because the minute their hair becomes wild people start talking. Athletes like Flo Jo and the William Sisters had to deal with it and they changed the game to fit their style and it worked. That's all these women have to do if they don't want to use a bunch of gel and hairspray which is damaging to our hair.

I believe most of the comments about her hair being unkept is coming from other black women unfortunately because who else would place such an emphasis on it? She is an athlete, a gymnast. She is also a black woman with naturally curly hair. It is a shame you have to educate your own race about black hair. Her hair is likely not going to stay in place with all of the stuff she does on the beams. She is one of the most successful athletes of all time, having a few strays doesn't matter. Leave her hair alone. Get used to black women being athletic and not being able to keep their hair (or weave) perfect. Anyone who is talking about her hair is just jealous and trying to be a distraction.
I've been around other black women who scolded me for getting in a swimming pool because it would "mess up" my hair. What am I going to do, never go swimming? Never play any sports where I will sweat? I like to swim and will not let a hairstyle stop me from the sports I enjoy. I know people who will not play sports or workout because it will mess up their hair which is sad. Any negative comments I ever received about my hair has been from other black women. Who was it that scolded Beyonce's daughter's hair when she was a baby? Right.
People also complained about her hair on her wedding day. Leave her alone. It's giving jealously because she is a married and successful woman in life and her career. Do not flood her parade.

As a mother of black adult young ladies, I would never let them appear on the world stage like that. I only took a cursory glance at her hair and I knew what was wrong, and what would make it right. Black hair comes in all textures. By her age, as her mother I would make sure her hair was done properly. And no, I'm not advocating hair relaxer. The solution is very simple. She would have soared with neat hair if she was my daughter. I saw a video of her mother preparing Simones hair by corn rowing the front prior to an event. I couldnt believe what I was seeing, flyaways everywhere😢. Yes, her performance is ultimately what counts. We know that. But Simones hair while performing is the result of not receiving the simple advice she needs. Hate on me if you must, but I speak truth from at least four decades of motherhood.😊

I was crying watching her compete. Not just because of the sheer force of nature that she is in gymnastics but also because of the force of nature she is in the world. I love how she's always been willing to honestly share her truth with the world. She's been through some hard,painful times and didn't shy away from sharing what it was and gow she healed. Such a beautiful,natural,sweet,compassionate woman. And,Omgosh,her mom.....❤️🥹

The problem is the "uniform" for female cheerleaders, gymnasts, and tennis players. That ponytail with a ribbon 🎀 has got to go. While I've never posted, for years I've thought to myself "why can't they brush that child's hair?" These are women they are not little girls in pagents. Black female athletes can't be subject to the same hairstyle. Let them wear micro braids in a ponytail because the minute their hair becomes wild people start talking. Athletes like Flo Jo and the William Sisters had to deal with it and they changed the game to fit their style and it worked. That's all these women have to do if they don't want to use a bunch of gel and hairspray which is damaging to our hair.
